Dayton Police Department Ordered to Lower Standards to Hire More Blacks

As if a written test in any way determines whether one is qualified to be a police officer anyway.

Yeah...I mene...its not like thay haf to lern them laws and stuff...

Written tests have everything to do with being a police officer....from psychological evaluations -- to reading/writing comprehension -- to evaluating one's pure common sense. Police officers should be communication experts in every media.

Deuce...

you don't find it at ALL insulting to black people, nay racist as hell to say "Lower your standards" because not enough blacks aren't passing the test?

Every black officer that joins after this will be judged negatively by his peers now. And yes, written tests do matter.

If only 1 out of 1000 teachers is fired, maybe they don't deserve to be fired.

Waiting for Superman had a lot of biases in it - bias in favor of charter schools (which btw, do not perform better than public schools) and bias against tenure (which, btw does not not affect student performance).

Everybody keeps posting this article in front of me, but no one has shown any evidence that they have seriously analyzed the education system and seriously considered the opinions of those who disagree with them. I have examined both sides and I have come to a conclusion.

The Nike comment:
1. Most stupidest isn't the proper grammatical phrase. It is 'most stupid'.
2. If a Nike salesmen sells you a crappy shoe (I mean quality wise), it's not his fault. The higher ups determine the material and quality of their shoe; he is in no position to make those decisions. It is the same with teachers. They teach what their bosses tell them to teach, they do not determine the policies. In both cases, some salesman or teacher might get drunk during their shifts and should be fired (which is why reforming tenure is good for the latter), but they cannot be blamed for the products that they're selling,

Absolutely no reason public school teachers should have tenure. It merely encourages sloth and arrogance.

Do cops have tenure? Nope.

How about doctors? Nope.

Are firement tenured? Nope.

Janitors don't have tenure, either.

What makes teachers exempt from the same job performance improving incentive the rest of society faces daily?

Given that what Mayor Snorkum assumes from the OP are high school graduates taking an entrance exam, one can only ask how the high schools can justify granting diplomas to such students.

While the problems are multiple, there are several that stand out.

Diplomas are given out, not earned. Today's standards are "do the time, get the prize." Students must once again begin earning diplomas, and those diplomas must represent a level of knowledge compatible with entrance into, and let's fact the truth, a career path that's never been famous for intellectual prowess.

It's a larger problem than just Eric Holder, but I don't think he's doing anything to help. There were similar cases from 2006/2007 involving Virginia and Maryland. I think it's one division of the DOJ, probably the Civil Rights division, that has run amok and has a serious case of the stupids.

Fair enough. However, Holder is sworn to uphold the law, and that includes the Fourteenth Amendment.

Where did you get the idea that I supported this decision?

since written tests do establish one level of essential qualification, ie, the ability to read, to understand and apply procedure, and lacking everything else, the absence of drool on the test form, what's your point? All cops have to fill out paperwork, they all have to fill it out correctly, and they have to know the law to apply the law. and that means they have to be able to pass tests.

People that are too stupid to pass a simple written test, or too lazy too prepare for the test in advance, are simply not going to be good cops.

There's more to police work than baton swinging and marksmanship, Tackleberry.

What are you on about son? East Bloc Eurotrash? I'm from Texas... I think you've done lost your mind.

Your post seemed to imply that written tests were not important... excuse me if I mis read your statement as support.

Standard-issue government written tests reflect nothing but one's ability to memorizea set of answers and promptly forget them two days later.

I've taken lots of these.

This actually reflects the declining level of standards in the rest of the country. Education isn't meeting employer or college requirements because of teachers unions, so qualified personnel cannot be found. They have to be imported. Silicon Valley companies like Google and Microsoft have domestic shortages of qualified employees, so they outsource and bring foreign workers to come work in America.

Physically, America is fat. I'm sorry, but it's true and we all know it.

People increasingly can't pass basic aptitude OR physical tests to meet qualifications for various jobs. It's deeply concerning.

And if people can't do that simple task, they're not going to be effective police officers, who have to remember the laws so they can see crime happening in front of them and thus those that can't perform what you've proclaimed is routine task shouldn't be considered as eligible for employment as a police officer.

The world always needs more janitors, you know.

No, what is of concern isn't that people fail entrance exams, but that the politicians are determined to lower standards to force the acceptance of groups that don't live up to the ideal.

Note that the OP didn't say enough people didn't pass the test, is said not enough minorities passed the test.

That suggests there were enough qualified applicants, except that, illegally, the DOJ is applying a racial test as well.

It's the same issue I just stated then, but with the addition of affirmative action, which I am also against.

Anyone that thinks lowering standards is good has no common sense. There are qualified people there BUUUUUUT they have to lower test scores for blacks. Thats insulting to blacks. Just not to the ones that arent intelligent enough to understand its insulting. Its like saying here is your badge you dumbass. Congrats

So, you think that just because one small woman dang near died that ALL small people are in the same boat? Did you know that Bruce lee was only 5' 7"? Small guy...yet could have kicked anybodies butt no matter thier size. And then theres Venessa Porto at 5' 5" who is a MMA champion.

Maybe if one of them was there to help, this lady in a policeman's uniform would have not nearly died.

Evidently the lesson here escapes you.

The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That's the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.

“It becomes a safety issue for the people of our community,” said Dayton Fraternal Order of Police President, Randy Beane. “It becomes a safety issue to have an incompetent officer next to you in a life and death situation."

“The NAACP does not support individuals failing a test and then having the opportunity to be gainfully employed,” agreed Dayton NAACP President Derrick Foward.

I think this part of the OP pretty much says it all. Holder lowered the standards, and the NAACP thinks that is a bad idea.

Yet more evidence that this administration's Eric Holder is a bigot.

The purpose of testing is to identify those qualified to do the job. It should not be set aside when not enough people of Eric Holder's race are shown to be qualified.

Here's what should be done if some feel minorities are insufficiently represented on their police forces: They should demand to know why the teachers unions are failing to educate their children so they can pass those tests and get those jobs, and what teachers are going to be fired to improve the quality of education for their children.

So,

Do you agree with Holders suggestion that testing standards need to be lowered to raise the amount of minority candidates getting a position in the police force or do you disagree Hazl?

I'm not understanding why the DoJ is getting involved in local State law enforcement scores and using anti-discrimination law to do it? Do they not have enough to do in Washington? I don't know if this is Holder or not but it's his department and can't the state tell Washington to **** off in this case? Granted, the fed could take the city to court over discrimination but I think the existing scores which are still an equivilent "D" and "F" minimum score is bad enough. The NAACP has it exactly right as does the Chief... the last thing you want are MORE incompetent officers with guns making life and death decisions - but hey, at least there's the required % of black represented incompetence.

Such stupidity.

By 'so', are you saying that's were you came from? A racist garbage dump?

Or just 'so what' if he's a racist. It's his god-given right to hate black people? Is that what you mean by 'so'?

Strawman -- revealing your own bigotry and racist feelings toward the AG of the United States because of the color of his skin. Shameful.

your refusal to answer a simple question says a lot about you.

True Story, The Good Reverend re-upped with the USAF after he scored in the 98% percentile of the NYPD test and told that because he was not black or a woman, who only needed to score a 60% that he could not become NYPD.

that dooshbag racist dinkins helped me make the best choice of my life.
