Wis. governor to Dems: Return or 1,500 workers will be axed

you are definitely jealous, don't know why i didnt see it earlier...the people i work with have to pull their weight j...if anyone thinks that they can hire into my workplace and slack, they have another thing coming. those who think they will slack, don't last the first week....a couple days of a press whoopin' their ass and they head for the door. i work with a good group...

Randel, people don't have to be jealous to not wholeheartedly support unions. Honest. They don't. If you are fortunate enough to be in a workplace that isn't abused by virtue of union rules, then you are fortunate. And no wonder you have the views you do. But for every workplace that isn't adversely colored because of union rules, there is another workplace that is.

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As the result of the War, corporations have been enthroned. ... An era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people... until wealth is aggregated in a few hands... and the Republic is destroyed."

– Abraham Lincoln, 1864

This is disgusting, playing with people livelihoods for what amounts to little more than political points, the Democrats should just do the job they're paid for and stop acting like 3 year olds.

You are aware that NOT all of Wisconsin is in that capital? There are other people in that state that do not want this sort of thing to go on.... In other words, they are protesting the protestors.

why, the poor thing

i guess hostage presidents aren't really responsible
I'm sure if it had been Bush, in the same situation, he would have said, the hell with the middle class, "I'm the Decider" and gone ahead and let the middle class lose their tax cuts, just to prove a point. Not much sense, but plenty of "macho"!

and it would be fair to add that the president PUNTED this central relationship between every american and his or her internal revenue service for two years, until his lame duck quacked it a couple days before new years eve

Huh?

ask obama

I'll text him, right away!

:) care to make a li'l wager on who wins this fight? I'll bet you a weeks' sig line that union collective bargaining contracts get restricted.

The winner will not be determined until 2012. Winning one battle is not winning the war.

I will await with baited breath the news stories you will no doubt be able to cite discussing Republicans fleeing Washington DC in order to stop Obamacare from becoming law.

Fleeing is not always necessary - there is such things as Filibusters - staying up all night talking nonsense just to keep a bill from being voted on is similar.

False. In many threads on this subject, Walker apologists have alleged this. When challenged to go back and produce campaign statements or campaign literature from Wlaker in which he promisedto take the radical steps he is now taking, nobody has been able to come up with them.

Walker campaigned to restore fiscal solvency to the state of Wisconsin. Taking away the monopoly of power the labor unions have is an essential step towards solvency for any state dominated by unions. Making the state employees pay their fair share for their benefits is also essential, as are all moves towards moving public employee wages towards the mediand defined by the commercial free market.

Did he promise to do specific acts, like "If you vote for me, I Promise, on Next Monday March 14th, to sing a bill restoring to state employees their freedom to choose union membership"? No.

Can you name a Democrat that campaigned on specificity and name those who did who kept those promises? No, of course not, because politicians never do that. So your demand for specific evidentiary support re: Walker is specious and you know it.

bush would have nixed the bush tax cuts, you're sure

LOL!

If the tax cuts for the rich weren't included? In a New York minute! As a matter of fact, didn't most of the Republicans in Congress vow not to pass the bill unless the rich were getting their's too? You're lagging.

Reps in Congress Won't budge unless Tax Cuts for Rich are included

Considering that the Reps vote lock-step - is it any wonder?

Obama made it clear why he was going ahead and extending them, but that isn't what he wanted. The Reps would have let us, the middle class go to hell in a hand-basked, they most nearly said it, so at least Obama was able to get some things they didn't want, like the unemployment extension, the DADT repeal, etc., etc., all the Reps were concerned about were the tax cuts for themselves!

Sure, it was a hostage deal.

Hostages always say things they don't mean, they do things they wouldn't otherwise do to keep the rest of the hostages free from harm. That is what Obama had to do.

"I've said before that I felt that the middle class tax cuts were being held hostage to the high end tax cuts. I think it's tempting not to negotiate with the hostage takers, unless the hostage gets harmed. Then people will question the wisdom of that strategy." Obama said at a press conference today, referring to Republicans' refusal to extend tax cuts for Americans unless it included all income brackets. "In this case, the hostage was the American people and I was not willing to see them get harmed."

The president argued that tax cuts for the lower and middle class are crucial for job growth and boosting the economy in the short term, an assessment with which most economists agree.

Tax Cut Deal: President Obama Compares Republicans to Hostage Takers - ABC News

Dems won
And your point?

From your link:

The House has never failed to pass an annual budget resolution since the current budget rules were put into place in 1974. Hoyer this spring noted that the GOP-led Congress didn’t pass a final resolution in 1998, 2004 and 2006.

Only when it involves making the rich pay their share!

he had 60 senators for a year, 59 for another, 255 reps
It's a good thing or we would have been in deep kimchi! Look at all the great things they were able to get through! Things that benefit the regular folks, not just the millionaires/billionaires!

no, tax cuts for ALL americans
Yeah, even for those that are already getting all kinds of loopholes and entitlements. Now with they even get more with the Estate tax - thanks to Reps.

Of the several objectionable provisions included in the tax compromise that congressional Republicans extorted from the Obama administration, none is more noxious than the one that all but guts the estate tax.

Even the needless and unfair continuation of tax reductions for families making more than a quarter of a million dollars a year merely extends a benefit already enjoyed by affluent households. Estate tax cuts, by contrast, create a whole new windfall for those who already enjoy privileges and security undreamed of by the vast majority of Americans.

LOL!

After claiming they want to reduce the deficit, this is what they defend? LOL!

The deal makes no sense to me because over the last year, we have heard Republicans hammer home a theme that they would reduce the deficit and help rid us of democrats writing checks that our grandchildren will not be able to afford to pay.

What do you mean they didn't - the Reps were willing to let everyone's tax cuts expire (including the chicken's) - if Obama didn't give in to their "PRIMARY" concern - the rich! Bwahahaha!

Yeah, he cared about us, unlike the Reps, whose main concern were the RICH!

from the hill, above:

House Democrats will not pass a budget blueprint in 2010, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will confirm in a speech on Tuesday.

But Hoyer will vow to crack down on government spending, saying Democrats will enforce spending limits that are lower than what President Barack Obama has called for.

“It isn’t possible to debate and pass a realistic, long-term budget until we’ve considered the bipartisan commission’s deficit-reduction plan, which is expected in December,” according to Hoyer’s prepared remarks that were provided to The Hill.

The House will put forth a “budget enforcement resolution” rather than a budget blueprint that looks beyond next year and calculates five or 10 years’ worth of deficit figures.

The House’s “enforcement” — or deeming — resolution will endorse the goals of the president’s fiscal commission and reiterate the commitment to vote on its recommendations after the midterm elections.

It’s also the issue that’s destroying what’s left of the Democrats’ jobs agenda as centrist Democrats have balked at the price tag of such measures.

For weeks, Democratic leaders have tried to strike a deal on the budget, which is a non-binding resolution, but to no avail. The talks triggered splits in the Democratic Caucus, alienating conservative Democrats from their liberal colleagues.

At a minimum, the House will not extend the tax cuts benefiting taxpayers of incomes above $250,000 despite some suggestions in the Senate that they be extended along with all other Bush tax cuts.”

But much of where Hoyer believes the real deficit debate should start is with the bipartisan fiscal commission.

we're not gonna propose a budget, we're gonna wait for bowles-simpson
