Senate Republicans threaten missing Democrats with contempt - JSOnline

Madison — Republicans in the state Senate ordered Democrats on Thursday to return to the chamber by 4 p.m. or be found in contempt of the Senate - a move that means Democrats could be taken into custody.

"We simply cannot have democracy be held hostage because the minority wants to prove a point," said Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau).

Senate Democrats have been out of the state since Feb. 17 to prevent passage of GOP Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill. At least 20 senators must be present to pass the bill, but Republicans hold just 19 seats.

..

I would say it's fair to argue that they are in contempt. They are refusing to do their jobs and holding democracy hostage by abusing senate rules. The Republicans aren't the ones who have gone over the edge, it's the Dems who have run off like cowards and refuse to do their jobs.

It's about time these worthless reprobates get thrown in jail.

The ante just gets upped and upped and upped. Is this what democracy has come to? Scarey.

Senate Moves To Bring 'Wisconsin 14' Back, Possibly By Force

The Wisconsin State Senate has approved a resolution that would set a deadline of 4:00 p.m. Thursday for Wisconsin's 14 Democratic state senators to return to Senate chambers.

If they do not, they would be held guilty in contempt of the Senate.
They would also be guilty of disorderly conduct.

TODAY"S TMJ4's Mick Trevey says law enforcement could go out with a warrant and detain them, possibly with the use of force.

Hauled back in chains to do their jobs. That's... a sight I wanna see.

If these 14 Senators are unwilling to do the job they have taken an oath for they need to step down, ot come up with a reasonable response to the Governors plan to reduce spending.

This is where the citizens need to act to recall them or at least level the threat.

I think several organizations are in the process of collectinbg signatures already to recall three of them?

This sounds like a serious threat but I am wondering how much weight it carries when it comes to having these Senators arrested and charged out of state.

I do agree something need to be done to insure that the State business is done and these cowards live up to their Oath of Office.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Tea Party activists angry with Democratic senators who fled Wisconsin to avoid voting on Gov. Scott Walker's budget bill are exploring the possibility of recalling at least two of the absent lawmakers.
Northwoods Patriots leader Kim Simac, of Eagle River, says the Tea Party group will meet Sunday to discuss recalling Sen. Jim Holperin after they return from Madison where they planned to rally at the Capitol Saturday.
Simac, a small business owner, says "it's embarrassing for the state of Wisconsin' that half of the Senate has "gone AWOL." Tea Party member Dan Hunt says a similar effort is under way in Kenosha where an exploratory committee will consider recalling Sen. Robert Wirch.
The Capital Times says a recall effort would require the exploratory committees to collect 15,000 to 20,000 petition signatures.

Senate orders arrest of missing Democrats
James Troupis, a private attorney hired by Fitzgerald, contended Thursday that the move is legal. He cited a portion of the state Constitution that provides that each house "may compel the attendance of absent members."

Its about time. Its really sad the democrats think you can run away from a "problem" and it will get solved within your absence.

Bring 'em back in cuffs. LOL

Just adds an extra topping to this glorious event.

Hehehe. It seems like Republicans are increasingly resorting to force to impose their agenda. Gee, I hope they don't start shutting down the Internet and issuing rambling Gaddafi-esque speeches. The GOP is circling the drain, and they think they're in a position of advantage. I love it when despots misunderstand the calculus of power. The Tea Party is the GOP's "anger" stage of grief. Can't wait to see Depression and Bargaining.

How are they holding democracy "hostage" by acting out for the people?

What in the hell is this babble? LOL

You're losing.....badly......and the nation is laughing at your pathetic party and its crybaby tactics.

By refusing to do their jobs. They are not just affecting the people on thier side, they are affecting every single person in that state. And what is going to happen if the budget isn't passed? ...you do the math.

Because Rosa Parks should have just moved to the back of the bus as was told to because she was making everyone else late.

Because children should have just kept working at low hourly wages 12-14 hours a day because they were affecting production.

Because slaves should have just continued doing their jobs since not doing so would affect the society because white men would actually have to pay them for work.

Because women should have just accepted their position as second rate citizens in society because that's always been what was expected of them instead pursuing equal rights.

OK, Drama Queen. Slow down.

Union workers are virtually impossible to terminate. These folks are getting packages most people can't imagine, despite the fact they are compensated solely through taxpayer dollars.

Why can't they negotiate for themselves like the other 88 percent of American workers do? Why should they be able to unionize against the taxpayers who pay them?

Oh here we have Miss Lovely. How do you do?

Aren't you the same lovely lady who proposed that Americans should vote based on how much income taxes they pay? How's that coming along? I'm sorry, but you must understand why I can't possibly take you seriously.

The sad thing is that ordinary folks like you, who live on a middle class income or a little above, believe the propogandas against your own neighbors. Enough so that you would turn on the folks that are going through the same hardships like you and bark in favor of the ultra rich who wouldn't give you the time of day. Tsk, tsk.

English. I thought conservatives were all about the language, despite how few seem to speak (and even fewer, read) it. Apparently I was wrong.

You're losing.....badly......and the nation is laughing at your pathetic party and its crybaby tactics.

I wasn't aware the Greater Pocatello Christian Businessman's Club was its own nation, but thanks for the local news update. The rest of America will...take it under advisement.

How are they holding democracy "hostage" by acting out for the people?

They are preventing a vote by those who represent the people. They are a minority party, they aren't getting their way, so they are acting like spoiled children and running from a vote they will lose.

I can't say that I blame the GOP, and face it, the democrats have shown nothing BUT contempt for the democratic process there. A perp-walk of legislative dissidents would be amusing, true, but I'm not certain it can be legally accomplished. We'll see.

Re: Senate Moves To Bring 'Wisconsin 14' Back, Possibly By Force

A representative of the people, must do their jobs.

That is what we vote them into power for.

That's what we pay them for.

You don't want to do the job the job the public, the people have entrusted you with.

Well **** you.

I don't agree with what the republicans are doing.

But what the wisconsin democrats are doing is cowardly and unbefitting of representative of the people.
