The group, called the Former Majority Association for Equality, was formed by Texas State University student Colby Bohannan and others and hopes to provide four $500 scholarships to white men by July (donations are being accepted via the group's website).

The group's mission statement says that it wants to "provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group."

I wish this group existed while I was in college, although I didn't grow up in Texas.

Help should be given out based on individual need, not based on whether one belongs to an ethnic group.

I know a South African white guy who fled his country because of violence against whites. Now he is struggling in Canada to make a life for himself, but he can't get scholarships because he is WHITE. It's a joke. He went to fill out university applications, and they ask: "Are you a visible minority?" He had to say no. That is basically like saying if your skin is WHITE, you cannot get financial help or reduced tuition.

The system needs to be MERIT BASED. If you can't afford school, then you have merit for scholarships. I am tired of the reverse racism.

The people who created this scholarship are Grade-A douchenozzles.

Have your friend say he's a pregnant Hispanic female with a foster child on long-term disability who's blind in one eye. He's a shoo-in.

I think scholarships should be based on need combined with merit.

Actually, I like what that guy's doing...

Because they're white. Yes? People like yourself probably do more to keep racial tension alive, more than the KKK, the Nazis and the Skinheads, combined.

You forgot to say J/K, yes?

It's wrong to have scholarships for whites? You must be kidding.

If I listed all that came up on this link, I'd be cited for fair use violation.

. I am tired of the reverse racism.

Racism is still racism and thus should be called racism instead of reverse racism.Calling it reverse racism somehow implies that it is not actually racism.

Along with everybody else who created race based scholarships. Race should have absolutely nothing to do with getting a scholarship.

I wonder how many conservatives complain about 'Italian-American scholarships'. It always seems to be bitching about black people having scholarships for black people.

This guy was interviewed on CNN, I think. He certainly didn't seem like an extremist. When he went to college, he went through pages and pages of scholarships available and noticed that nearly all of them were based on ethnic, rather than economic considerations. So now he has started a private scholarship, with donations from private funds, that help economically challenged white males whose high grades and other social achievements would have made them eligible if they had simply been another ethnicity.

Do I like it? Not particularly. However, I don't believe that any scholarship should be based on ethnicity. They should all be based upon economic hardship, understanding that most but not all of those eligible will indeed be from minority applicants. That way all poor kids get a chance for financial help to go to college.

I agree that scholarships should be merit and need based. I am currently a university student, and there are many minority scholarships that are based solely on race. I myself earn a scholarship based on financial needs and for academics. All of my money comes from grades and needs/loans, none due to by race (white). I don't really like the thing that this guy is doing specifically as I believe it would still be better to give scholarships out based on need and merit. However it will spark discussion and bring the problem of "reverse racism" to light.

Does the scholarship apply to clown college?

Minority scholarships are set up to offer a minority individual a chance to attend a college or university that they would otherwise be unable to attend due to finances. It should surprise no one on this board that minorities still need help after 300-plus years of slavery, oppression, and mistreatment. If you are the kind that thinks that racism is dead, everything is equal nowadays, and all minorities are developing a sense of entitlement, then i'd urge you to spend a little more time educating yourself on the issue.

As a white individual, I had no problem attending college. I had no problem with graduate school, either. I was lucky enough to be born into a family that could financially provide for my education, and if they couldn't, there were plenty of avenues open to me for loans, scholarships, and grants. It's the same with every white individual on this board. Not so in the black community. It's okay to say that scholarships and loans should be merit-based, but if you are the type of person who isn't willing to pump more money into primary education to ensure that black students have access to the same level of education as their white counterparts, then that's just silly. The goal is to equal the playing field, and right now, it is far from that.

I see no problem with this, there are alot of scholarships I couldn't get because I was white, even though economically, I would apply for them, if I was black.

That's my problem with Liberalism. They still think that blacks can't make it on our own and need the help of white Liberal do-gooders to get ahead in life.

Black kids have the same oppurtunity at getting the same quality of education in public schools as white kids do. I'll be so glad when people stop with that bull****.

Just like affirmative action, I think there was a time that they were needed. I just wish we'd move on from it. Maybe if more start having white scholarships, people will start to realize how stupid the whole thing is. Congress should also start a White Caucas for the same reason.

The guy that did this is obviously, as previously mentioned, a douchenozzle, he's just perpetuating a system of race based scholarships.

I often wonder what things would be like if we had just treated blacks as equals. First we enslaved them, then we continued to keep them down by "helping" them because of skin color. I think Liberals look at blacks and see people who have been **** on and they want to make things right. I think conservatives look at them and see people who are just as capable as anyone else to make their own way.
I know it's not as simple as that, but I think that gets to the core of the problem.

Please explain to me why you wish this group existed while you was in college, when the group only gives scholarships to white males, and you say that the system should be merit based and not based on skin color. Those statements are at odds.

If it opens up discussion, I don't see it as a bad thing. Also, it seems there is a real need for it.

I wonder how many conservatives complain about 'Italian-American scholarships'. It always seems to be bitching about black people having scholarships for black people.

Since it 'always happens', link to 5 stories (credible sources) about conservatives 'bitching about scholarships for black people only'.

We'll wait......

It should be merit based, with no regard to skin color, background, etc... but since that's not reality and there are special groups who garner "only _____" status, then I see no problem with a "white" or "black" or "indian" or "italian" or whatever... each group wants to be included with their own special scholarships since they are not eligible for all.

Maybe we'll have so many someday, people will realize how silly it is and we can start giving them all on merit and economics.
Is there a scholarship fund for older short white women? :)

If not you should start one, be the chairwoman.
