Yes!
Didn't know that... not that I really care...
Yes!
Private money, they have the right to create their own scholarships just as anyone else does.
agree completely with this. I still would prefer it was merit based however, either that or I wish that there was more private money investing in scholarships for white males when I was looking for them. I am kind of split on this issue, I feel strongly that merit based would be the ideal way to go; however this contradicts with the liberty that should be due to privately funded scholarships to be able to say "it is our money, so this is what I determine it goes for" even if it was for transvestite midgets native to Tonga with 6 fingers.
It can be both. I received two scholarships. One was a full-ride athletic scholarship. The other was from a local Franco-American society. It was given to five Franco-American high school graduates in my home town every year who displayed outstanding academic leadership. Franco-Americans in my hometown were generally economically disadvantaged compared to other groups in my home town and this was an effort to give some assistance to QUALIFIED students of our ethnicity...
I was able to get a few academic scholarships, but as an adoptee who had no way of showing I was of any descent other than a generic "whiteness" that was the extent of it.
edit: I was half tempted to try to find my birth family when I was scholarship hunting, just to see if I could find a few drops of native American blood from a great grandmother or something
I went searching to prove racial profiling doesn't happen that often. I failed Though this is talking about 2002 and earlier, if it's even half as bad now, it's still bad.
Guess I can throw out that myth about blacks speeding more often. They don't.

That's not true, unless you're talking about one minority discriminating against another minority. As much black on white discrimination as I've seen in my life, I've seen even more black on hispanic and black on asian discrimination.
I don't always agree with you Barb, but I appreciate the honesty and attempt at finding out the truth.
Now if we can only get a Congressional White Caucus..........
........and really highlight the hypocrisy and racism that is The Democrat Party.

You're making an assumption based on your one small perception? Limited experiences should not be used to make such general claims. Whites are still the majority in this country and they still hold the keys to the vault.
Historically, minorities have always been at a disadvantage whether it's socio economic means, quality of education, discrimination in hiring practices, unfair treatment, social discrimination, etc. If you want to reap the "benefits" of being a minority, feel free to move to any country where you'll be a part of the "minority".
I already suggested that earlier. I think it would be hilarious.
Oh well, it's funny enough that Conservative Alan West said he's going to join the Black Caucas. I think all of them are Socialist/Progressives. Whatever will they talk about with him in the room.
I do too! One of the good things about forums like this is that in one way or another, all of us discover things that we did not know.
There are white people who need help more than many Blacks do. There ARE traditionally underprivileged White ethnic groups.

Apdst is right to a certain degree. Many minorities including Asians and Latinos hold more negative views on blacks than the average white, while possessing more favorable views towards whites in general compared to the rest of the population. It's been documented in sociological research.
I tried to give you a "like" but your button didn't work. Sorry
Minorities are more likely to get discriminated on a day to day basis.
There are already a ton of scholarships and grants that are need based which I think is the most important.
Sure. But as a group, they are not. As I said, perhaps race-based scholarships for underprivileged minority groups are not the best way to serve society, but at least those groups ARE underprivileged. And at least the people providing the scholarships mean well.
I didn't say they should be thrown in prison for doing it. I said they're Grade-A douchenozzles. Which they are.
So you think there aren't any white ethnic groups that aren't underprivileged?
ludahai said:I disagree. There are underprivileged white people who need assistance as well.
I wonder how many conservatives complain about 'Italian-American scholarships'. It always seems to be bitching about black people having scholarships for black people.
I would also issue whites as a group do not 'need' an ethnic scholarship. They are just as eligible for academic merit scholarships. Perhaps they perceive some sortof pervasive diskkrimination against them.
I guess they have the right to do whatever they want though. Strange.
I'm generalizing, but on average they also have access to better schools and more likely to benefit from such things as legacy, advanced tracking, and AP courses which are all a plus when applying for college. However it is true that affirmative action today benefits white females more than any other group.
