One of the loudest voices against the annual Southern Decadence festival in New Orleans's French Quarter was arrested Friday afternoon for masturbating in a public park.

Rev. Grant Storms, 53, was arrested at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La., a suburb outside of New Orleans, according to the Times-Picayune. He told police he was having lunch in a van with his friend, but needed to urinate, so he used a bottle instead of a bathroom.

Two women in the park saw Storms reportedly masturbating in his van, while watching children, and notified a parks employee who proceeded to call police.

Storms was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center due to jail overcrowding.

Storms has orchestrated counter-events for Southern Decadence in the past, and in 2004, filed a lawsuit against gay rights group Action Wisconsin for defamation, but the suit was thrown out of court. He has also been an advocate for cleaning up the French Quarter, and has gone as far as filming sexual acts that took place during Southern Decadence, and screening his videos to lawmakers as a way to coerce them to stop allowing the annual festival from taking place.

I find it incredibly ironic and telling that this kind of thing keeps happening.

And, in other news, Fred Phelps expressed remorse that he only masturbates and has sex with male horses where nobody can see him do it.

Maybe we should bear in mind that the man has been accused, not convicted, and the only evidence is the testimony of two witnesses, who could be mistaken, or possibly even seeking revenge for something.

It does happen.

We've got this innocent until proven guilty thing, too.

Uhm, really, even if he is anti-gay, what would the relevance of that be to this story. He wasn't with another man, was he?

I think what he meant is the irony of how many people who speak out against the immorality of the homosexuals go on to do things that are really, really creepy.

Like masturbating in public. Just 'cause.

Are you saying masturbation is immoral?

I think the kicker is that he could have been masturbating to children in the park.

Ok, this guy's a scumbag...and?

I think if we held Lefties to this same standard, on everything, Lefties would like the biggest yocks in the world.

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. But some suspects look to be most certainly guilty.

The witnesses say he was masturbating. The Rev says he was peeing in a bottle.
By his own account his penis was exposed.

Not that I would ever pee in a bottle while sitting at park with children playing but one could hold that bottle down discreetly enough that no one outside the van could see it. You could even place a jacket over yourself to further provide privacy.
Something stinks here.

A few years ago we had a federal judge caught exposing himself to a female jogger. He came up with the excuse he had a bee sting and was pulling his pants down to inspect the area. Meh.

I always love the excuses pervs come up with to explain their actions.

Those who complain the loudest are often the worst offenders!

If he had been caught having sex with his wife, would that be better, worse or the same?

Depends if he was watching small children while doing it. Which is apparently what he was doing while masturbating in his van.

He gives a different story.

He gives a different story.

Look at the apologists coming out in full.

He's innocent until proven guilty, but what he did was questionable at best. Exposing yourself near children is not generally favorable, even if it's to "pee in a bottle". That's right up there with the other lame excuses that past convicted perverts have used.

Even if he's innocent, he's supposedly a virtuous man who is following God. The hypocrisy of the religious in power never ends.

In his van?!? Whoa! Wait a minute! I see some 4th Amendment violations, here.

And you're just believing the worse because you want to. Too bad he's not a Somali pirate that was shooting up heroin 'cause then you'd make every excuse for him.

His story is believable. He should be given the benefit of the doubt.

But he damned well should have known better than to urinate in a public park.

:prof one might say that this reverend was horting his heat.

Peeing or not, exposing himself in a park just isn't smart at all. And I don't really buy his story.

I do love though how one reverend doing something immoral is reported on and then used as evidence of the "hypocrisy" of "the religious" while ignoring the fact that the thousands of them who do try and succeed at living relatively moral lives are never going to make it onto the news because "Reverend helps couple from getting divorced" or "Reverend speaks to teens about gang violence" or other such things just aren't headline catchers.

This is why I avoid threads like this. Some one does something bad, therefore whatever convenient group he is in is bad. It's done by people on every section of the political spectrum and is painful to watch people be so willfully illogical or dishonest.
