Rahm Emanuel wins Chicago mayoral vote

So what the **** does anyone here actually know about Chicago or Rahm's campaign to justify their opinions, whether that he's a savior or that he's going to raze the city to the ground? Seriously does anyone actually know anything about this city? All I see is a bunch of partisans who've already got their opinion decided but forgot that critical step of getting actual knowledge to back it up.

Excuse us for stating our opinions. We thought this was a board where we were free to do that.

As for me, I based my statement on how badly he ****ed up in the White House. So badly, that when the ship began sinking, he fled with the rest of the rats to avoid getting pulled under once it finally sinks.

What people don't seem to realize is that there were no real options in this mayoral race. Three of the top contenders were and are part of the Chicago political machine.

Miguel Del Valle was originally appointed by Daley as City Clerk in 2006 after Laski got charged in the trucks for hire scandal.

Gery Chico was Daley's chief of staff in the early 90's and has been appointed by Daley to numerous positions in his life.

And, of course, Rahm Emanuel has connections to Daley.

The only candidate who could be considered outside of the Daley machine was Braun, and she isn't a really strong candidate by any stretch given her history and statements on the campaign trail.

A Chicago Democrat became Mayor of Chicago.

Stop the presses.

Seriously, republicans didn't even bother to put forward a candidate so it was basically a contest of left wing vs left wing. I don't see anything greatly news worthy here or of great worry to Chicago, if not Rahm it'd just be someone else similar.

I'm sure it was a top notch election, too.

Two judges were removed from polling places on Tuesday for showing up drunk. In one case, the judge showed up drunk in the South Side’s 17th Ward. The other judges noticed alcohol on a judge’s breath, and by the time an investigator arrived, the judge had been removed.

Another judge showed up drunk at a polling place in the 11th Ward. An investigator from the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners noticed a smell of booze on an election judge at a fire station polling place near 35th and Lowe.

I live in Chicago and I've been in the chicagoland area my entire life. Tashah lives here as well. dontdoit's profile says he's from Illinois, and while that doesn't necessarily mean he's from Chicago or even the Chicagoland area, it does mean it is likely that he is familiar with the area and the campaign.

Judging by the user name, I think Haymarket might live here, too.

Exactly. It might as well have been a democratic primary.

Because it's a fact that 61% of Chicago's population is made up of minorities. Look it up.

Didn't take long for someone to call me a racist. I saw it coming, so it's no big deal.

nothing new to you hey?

Suburban Chicago here. I hold out great hopes for the new mayor. He's certainly got the balls for the job. Haymarket doesn't live in the Chicago area. Ohio, if I'm not mistaken. His user name comes from his support of what happened in Chicago.

Nope. Haymarket does not live in Chicago. Loves the place though. Have been there more times than I can count or remember.

You think ADPST is racist against blacks?

Really, please answer this honestly, both he and I would like to know your honest opinion on this, neither of us will consider it a personal attack or report it....

Are you suggesting I'm a racist?

I am not suggesting - I am TELLING you that you have stated you expected it. Gotta be a reason for that and it sounds like nothing new to you.

Only you know what is truly in your mind and in your heart.

I will not sit in judgment of anything beyond what you have told us and revealed.

I'm very jaded about our politics and don't have much in the way of hope anymore except perhaps to hope that I'm wrong about it being more of the same.

I stand corrected.

Of course I expect to be called a racist, anytime I criticize minorities, or a minority community. But, the truth hurts, sometimes. Let's face it, minorities don't vote for the guy saying that they should get off welfare and get a job.

Could you please point to anything Rham said that goes "Stay on Welfare and don't get a job"?

I don't have to, because he didn't say anything to the contrary. You know it and I know it.

Rahm will do very well for Chicago. This is a great victory for the people of the Windy City.

No this means more corrupt Chicago gutter politics that the Daley's have made Chicago famous for

So he's racist against blacks? I want to understand you fully here.
