Indiana Democrats flee state legislature to avoid anti-union vote

Gill would be a better worker because he wouldn't have to follow Union rules. If something broke and he knew how to fix it he'd go ahead and do it. He wouldn't sit on his ass waiting for someone in that pay grade to come do it.

you have some strange ideas about how the workplace functions when it's unionized.

for the millionth and one time....union dues are not spent on political activity...political contributions are separate and voluntary from union dues.

How did this happen if what you say is true?

NEAexposed » Ohio teacher sounds off when the NEA launches attack ads against her husband

It’s no secret that teachers unions spend heavily each election season, with almost all the campaign cash flowing to left-wing candidates and liberal causes.
And many conservative members of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association have protested that their union’s spending is out of line with the teachers they represent, which are more evenly split politically.[/QUOTE
]“Imagine my chagrin when my friends and colleagues began showing me the awful attack ads against my husband which they had received in the mail,” Jade Thompson wrote in a letter to the Marietta Times newspaper. “Now imagine my dismay when I saw that those defamatory mailers were paid for by the Ohio Education Association – my teachers’ union. In effect, they are using my union dues to attack my husband! This is a new low, even for the OEA.”

February 2004

Indiana Republicans did the same freakin' thing in 2004 when Democrats who were in the majority in the House wouldn't let them amend the constitution to hate gays...

Back then, they called it proudly a part of democracy. Of course, they now say it "un-democratic" when Democrats do it.

Hypocrisy much?

Republican legislators boycotted the Indiana House of Representatives, bringing it to a standstill, in an effort to get their proposal for a constitutional ban on gay marriage heard.

pretty childish but I would point out this appears to be a single day boycott in order to allow a bill they favored to be allowed to the floor for a vote.

They did NOT do the same thing. I don't see anything about them leaving the state. They boycotted because the speaker, then a Democrat, would even allow debate on an amendment. NOT EVEN ALLOW DEBATE. Kind of not the same thing. No leaving the state. BTW, the Dems in Indiana in 1995 walked out for two weeks over redistricting and the Dems did a one-day walkout in 2005 to prevent passage of a voter ID bill. In none of these cases can I find any mention of legislators skipping the state...

Indiana House boycott new twist in long rivalry | jconline.com | Journal and Courier

- In 1995, Democrats staged a two-week walkout during the 1995 session until Republican leaders withdrew a surprise proposal to redraw legislative districts for the 1996 elections and reduce the 100-member House by one Democratic seat. Democrats won back the House majority in the 1996 election as Democrat Frank O'Bannon was elected governor.

- In 2001, outnumbered Republicans holed up for two days, refusing to take the floor in protest of new legislative districts drawn by Democrats. But Bosma and Democratic leaders agreed to some minor changes that were just enough to break the impasse. Democrats kept their slim majority in the 2002 election.

- In 2004, Republicans blocked action for a week by staying off the floor because then-Speaker Bauer refused to let a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage even be debated. Republicans won a 52-48 majority in the 2004 election that also saw Daniels win the governor's office.

- In 2005, Democrats staged a one-day walkout that temporarily derailed a voter ID bill and other Daniels initiatives that later became law, leading to the governor lashing out at Bauer. Democrats regained House control in the 2006 election.

you have some strange ideas about how the workplace functions when it's unionized.

Really? Do individual members of a union get raises based on their individual effort, or does every union member get the same pay based on job title and length of service ???
