that said, i do believe it's completely foolish to purposely travel in pirate infested waters. in fact, i think the u.s. should ban travel for u.s. citizens to these waters. there are pirates all over the area, even far offshore.

Having it coming....like those hikers that got arrested in Iran. What were they doing? They were hiking between the border of Iraq and Iran. Do people do do safari on the border between Chad and Sudan? No. People have to be careful.

Again, it was religion that blinded these individuals. No religion no trip to a dangerous part of the world.

Oh really? Do you have a hotline to the Pirates? Are you somehow dialed into their thoughts? Exactly how do you feel justified in making this absolute. Do you know why they were killed? Has EVERY American captured by Somali Pirates been killed? Are you just full of yourself that you think you can declare things and people are going to mindlessly take your seriously?
You obviously forget recent history. Not too long ago SEALS killed pirates. And most pirates were members of the Al Shabab . So they are radical Islamists and they are drug addicted.

Yes, I'm sure the Pirates top concern is "sticking it to the man" that is America. And obviously the best choice is indiscriminate bombing :roll: By the way, we're not "bombing" Pakistan, we're bombing strategic targets in Pakistan. Far different than the country wide carpet bombing you imply.

Had they not been on their yacht this wouldn't have happened. Had they never been born, this wouldn't have happened. Had Somolian pirates long ago been effectively contained this wouldn't have happened. To say the fact that they were missionaries got them killed is ridiculous. You could not possibly know that.

They were killed during an attempt by U.S. forces to rescue them. Personally, I hope we adopt a new policy. If the U.S. Military boards a ship and finds hostages dead, every single pirate is lined up and shot -- on UTube.

One American sub should be able to clean up this problem in a couple of weeks. Sink about 50 of these thug boats, and it'll send the only message they'll understand.

Al Shabab HATES Somali Pirates. They kill them whenever they get the chance.
Hell, when the Islamists made our Government in Somalia. The first thing they did was eradicate piracy and make it a death penalty on sight

But yes, they use the drug Khat.

If people want to take stupid risks, I don't have a lot of sympathy for them. On last night's news, it said they were originally travelling as part of an organized flotilla, for safety, then decided to go out on their own. They knowingly took the risk, just like dumbasses who climb tall, dangerous mountains without the necessary experience or equipment, idiots who go to dangerous countries for "adventure tourism", and that jack-ass who thought he'd be "Grizzlyman" and make friends with bears.

I'm not sure how much of a difference the "ex" makes. It's been my experience that people who are desperate enough to rob other people are probably concerned with things other than religion and politics (like, for instance, money).

It's another layer to the power struggle in Somalia. This one between Pirates and Al Shabab.

Pirates are getting the best weapons from their ransoms to hold off the Islamists but Al Shabab has more Men/control of the area
 
The US military should establish deterrence if it wants to stop this from going on. Kill 100 of them within 48 hours and let's see how they'd like to continue with these actions against US citizens. They do continue? Kill 1000 more.

Besides, I don't understand why were 4 American civilians touring around the Somali coasts with no armed escort. Citizens who want to pass through that area should be legally forced to be escorted by armed security personnel.

Problem with that is these pirates aren't very accommodating, and don't dress like this:

Trying to find 100 Somalis you can prove are pirates, and not just fishermen or whatnot could be a problem, unless you're all for indiscriminate massacres, the only real solution is for a proper government to emerge, and I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon.

This is a disgusting comment. So the fact that they were Christian missionaries justifies their murder by pirates? I believe you are blind to the truth. So, when I went to Haiti to help the poor as a missionary should I have been gunned down?

The cause is the povetry of the Somali citizens, and that is the responsibility of the Somali government, not the American one.
The Ameircan government has however an obligation to maintain the security of its citizens at home and abroad.
 
Don't you see, America needs to solve the problem of the Pirates extorting people for money in exchange for not hurting them by giving the pirates a bunch of money so they're not in poverty anymore and won't hurt anyone.

Obviously the solution to keep pirates from hurting people in exchange for money is to give the pirates money so they stop hurting people. Come on Apoc, its logic. We shouldn't be punishing them for their actions, we should be giving them money to stop them from demanding more money.
 
why not do the same thing that cops do? Use a 'bait boat'.

Have a remotely controlled boat followed by a sub. The pirates board the boat... discover it empty... and the sub takes out the boat while the pirates are abord. Do that enough times, and maybe the piracy will at least slow.
