Hero's unwelcome

I understand that, but that doesn't address the question. Are the individual neocons and liberals who spent us (we the people) into this mess, "evil"? It's a yes or no here, don't go all gray on me.

Are you speaking of the Islamic Terrorists that attacked the United States?

I'm reposting it so some of you will quit spewing your lies.

Maschek 2 days ago offered the following comment in the Columbia newspaper:

" To all who have expressed concern or outrage over the reported events at the Columbia University ROTC Town Hall meeting:

Comments by a small number of individuals at the town hall meeting have not changed my positive experiences at Columbia. Thus far, my fellow students have been very interested in hearing about my past life and military experiences. Columbia has been attempting to get more veterans to share their experiences here, and the atmosphere here has been supportive despite the actions of a very small minority of the town hall participants."

If you read the transcript, you can see exactly when the hisses were made and exactly to what they objected. Also, you can see there were retorts made to those students by others.

And here's the response by the U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University

what's your point?

what's your point?

That the OP article is fabricating lies and exaggerating things.

Everyone's reacting here to something that isn't true, that's my point.

I went to columbia for my undergrad and both my grad degrees, still live in morningside heights and participate in events and am a very generous donor. I won't stand for precisely what this article is - slander.

oh so you are overly sensetive and want to defend your school. Gotcha..... Every school has assholes, even yours. It's not slander.

Islamic terrorists have armies?

Organized crime...also known as armies, gangs, groups, herd, posse, crew..it doesnt matter the size...if they have a mission and all act upon it...its an army.

It's a gross exaggeration of what happened. No one cat called when he was talking about his service, but reinstating ROTC.
Did you watch the video or read the transcript?

yes I did, it was highly rude, why you make excuses for assholes at your school is on you and does a disservice for the honor of the school you are trying to defend.

I don't agree with what they did, as I said before, but to say the NY Post portrayed them accurately is a complete lie.

I have to take issue with this statement, and while I understand your point (from a Leftists point of view, another Leftist is not evil.. or a left wing policy, ideology or project may not be evil) Leftists do believe in evil.

Examples:

Republicans are evil. Conservatives are evil. Capitalism is evil. Corporations are evil. The military (sometimes) is evil. G.W. Bush and NeoCons are evil.

As always, when conservatives try and explain what liberals think, they make it a point to get it wrong. Liberals do not as a general rule consider any group of people evil. Evil is individual, based on an individuals actions, and is not ideological. If you are a liberal and act in evil ways, you are evil, the ideology is irrelevant.

I mostly agree, but when I say Leftist - I'm talking about the "not quite right in the head" idealogues... You're average Mother Jones type like Katrina vanden Heuvel for example. I know YOU personally would identify individuals only - and attribute individuals only, but not all liberals are like you. I've come to respect your opinion Redress, which was not always the case.

So if I referred to "righties" and only meant that all out no business regulation, can own any weapon system made by man, nuke the middle east types, you would understand what I meant? Especially if I used it in that method with no explanation or reason for others to understand what I was referring to?

Nope I wouldn't, and I explained it badly. My fault.

J-mac,

Issues that undermine academic freedom or more broadly have a harmful impact on student learning outcomes should be addressed sooner rather than in the long-term. Today's graduates need to be prepared to have a chance to be as fully productive members of society (workforce and in life in general) as possible. If they cannot be fully productive, that would have adverse implications for the nation's productivity, competitiveness, economy, and finances. In short, even if my answer didn't fully convey it, I believe it is imperative that significant situations that deprive students of a good education should be treated as urgent matters by colleges/universities, their accrediting bodies, and also public policy leaders given the investments made in higher education. As a caveat, I do not believe public policy officials should attempt to dictate curricula. Their focus should be on outcomes, graduation success, etc.

We all want the best education for our children, however what we see going on increasingly is a climate where education levels are dropping while cost per student, we are told are ever increasing, in some cases exceeding some $10 grand per student per year, and as a parent I watch tuition's increase, and arrogant individuals scream that they should have tenure, and not be able to be fired for their negligence to actually teach instead of indoctrinate. You may not agree, but there are more parents like myself out there that are left asking what the hell am I paying for?

First of all, I'm not even remotely surprised that there were jeers. We are in a very heated political climate right now where the divisions between left and right are as sharp as ever. Secondly, as others have pointed out... the article went immediately for the outrage button because a few people (yes, a few people) jeered and made snide comments. The guy got to make his entire point and the few people that were heckling were almost drowned out by the loud applause. I find it interesting that the article didn't mention the applause after the statement in question nor did they mention the loud applause after he was done speaking. This article is meant to outrage people and it did its job. This is the kind of crap that keeps the lines between left and right as clear as ever. It's sad that people are trying to pin the action of a few misguided idiots on all people on the left simply because it bolsters your poorly constructed stereotypes about liberals. Though, I'm sure it serves your purely partisan purposes, it does nothing to further the conversation and instead turns it into an illogical screaming match like most of the discussions end up being. Trust me, those few misguided fools in the crowd who decided to heckle this brave young man are in the extreme minority.

Apologist alert.

Apologist alert.

Partisan hack alert. Maybe you could actually read my comments before making idiotic replies to them that add absolutely nothing to discussion?

I had to stop when the idiocy became too much to bear.
