Hundreds of Libyans shot down

I didn't say the SADF was working with Gadaffi, however the ANC is very very friendly with him, considering he was a big supporter of them back during the struggle, he also supported nut jobs like Idi Amin :prof

All in all, after the Angola Bush war, there were a **** load of highly trained, battle hardened South African soldiers who were hired out by all kinds of people to do all kinds of things.

I wasn't suggesting there was a massive contingent of South African ex soldiers in Libya, but again, I'd bet there might be a few.

Oh, so you're going to blame that on Bush, too? Unbelievable.

(Just kidding, Jet. Today's threads are so scary and serious, we need a little levity right now.)

It's time to get involved, if we want to see democracy flourish in the ME.

Al-Jazeera reported Monday that the Libyan air force has bombed protesters who were on their way to an army base, according to eyewitness testimony.

The protesters were reportedly heading to the army base to obtain ammunition, but witnesses said the air force bombed the demonstrators before they could get there.

Not our business. Us American's need to learn how to MYOB. We don't want the world to tell us what to do. So why should we get involved with another nation's affiars? Its hypocritical and just plain dumb. The lead protestor for Egypt said Americans do not need to get involved. That we should just let them be and that they did not need any of their help. And we should do the same with Libya.

It seems like Libya's top diplomats and military officials are starting to defect. Many of the military brass seem to no longer want to fire on protesters. Two Libyan pilots who were ordered to bomb protesters took their planes and defected to Malta. At the same time, it appears that Qadaffi doesn't have much support in his own foreign ministry. Libya's ambassador to the UN called the violence against protesters a "genocide," and the deputy ambassador to the UN openly speculated that Qadaffi doesn't have more than a couple days left.

Yeah, I'm calling it now. It's over for Qadaffi.

Rumor has it that Qadaffi may have already fled to Venezuela, according to British Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Hopefully we can invade before it's all over.

That would be interesting, eh? Venezuela is doubting it, and Hague is backtracking, but I suspect perhaps he wasn't supposed to say anthing.

Reuters is reporting that Qadaffi's forces have withdrawn from the east, effectively conceding it to the protesters. They may be trying to bring reinforcements to Tripoli.

A final act of desperation.

Hopefully anyway, the jig is up for Gadaffi.

So does your gut tell you these protests are spreading, or are they being orchestrated?

Gadhafi's hold on Libya weakens in protest wave - Yahoo! News

By MAGGIE MICHAEL, Associated Press – 2 mins ago

CAIRO – Deep cracks opened in Moammar Gadhafi's regime Monday, with Libyan government officials at home and abroad resigning, air force pilots defecting and a major government building ablaze after clashes in the capital of Tripoli.....
At sunset, pro-Gadhafi militia drove around Tripoli with loudspeakers and told people not to leave their homes, witnesses said, as security forces sought to keep the unrest that swept eastern parts of the country — leaving the second-largest city of Benghazi in Protesters' Control — from overwhelming the capital of 2 million people......described a scene of Intimidation: Helicopters hovering above the main seaside boulevard and pro-Gadhafi gunmen firing from moving cars and even shooting at the facades of homes to terrify the population....

Gadhafi, whose whereabouts were not known, appeared to have Lost the support of at least one major tribe, several military units and his own diplomats, including the delegation to the United Nations. Deputy U.N. Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi accused Gadhafi of committing genocide against his own people in the current crisis.

Warplanes swooped low over Tripoli in the evening and snipers took up position on roofs, apparently to stop people outside the capital from joining protests, according to Mohammed Abdul-Malek, a London-based opposition activist in touch with residents....

Just something funny:

Muammar Gaddafi fears flying over water, prefers staying on the ground floor and almost never travels without his trusted Ukrainian nurse, a “voluptuous blonde,” according to a US document released by WikiLeaks late 2010.

Gaddafi's choice of bodyguards has been the subject of much media attention. His 40-member bodyguard contingent, known as the Amazonian Guard, is entirely female. All women who qualify for duty supposedly must be virgins, and are hand-picked by Gaddafi himself. They are trained in the use of firearms and martial arts at a special academy before entering service.

So does your gut tell you these protests are spreading, or are they being orchestrated?

I don't know what this is supposed to mean dogg.

The Gadaffi Regime is like an episode of the Saprano's ok.

The issue of whether islamists may take over the country, and the cause of these uprisings are mutually exclusive. Trying to find a correlation?

Good luck.

CNN's Bene Wedermann finally got inside Libya, but he's still in the east, where protesters have taken over. There are numerous reports that helicopter gunships and fighter planes are machine gunning and bombing crowds. Since two Libyan air force pilots refused to do this and flew to Malta with the bombs still attached to their planes, this adds credibility to the rumors.

It really is going to be a bloodbath. Libyan cabinet officers, military officers, and diplomats are defecting by the dozens. The only way Khadaffi and his weird son are going out of power is if the crowd storms the palace and kills them.

Which I hope they do... I would love nothing more then to see that son of a bitchs entrails dragged through the streets of Tripoli, murderous ****.

Excuse my Swahili.

Sounding so regressive today, I just have a serious despise for despots call me crazy.

It is sickening and terrible.

They do not "think" like westerners....life has no real value over there.

I've always dispised Khadaffi. I would love to see him gone. Not just out of power... "gone" gone. I just can't help wondering how many thousands of people are going to die for the protesters to completely succeed. Human Rights groups are estimating the death toll could be as high as 800 already.

In the course of human events, for 1000 people to die to topple a 42 year old regime isn't bad... in the course of human events.

Rather cold I know. But true.

You mean you'd like to see him dead? Struck down and killed like his forces are killing all those protesters?

Life doesn't have real value over here either. We just pretend it does. Our forefathers killed countless Native Americans in order to expand this country. Up until 50 years ago American companies were financing the murder of Guatemalans and Salvadoreans. In the 80s we funded guerrilla groups and dictators who killed their people. The notion that the West has a monopoly over valuing life is laughable.

Yes. I'm not proud of wishing for someone's death, but I truly dispise this man and what he has done over the past four decades.

Nothing wrong with wanting someone dead. Hell, I don't see much wrong with making someone dead if they have it coming. I just don't like it when people try to claim it's something else, especially if they're talking about the value of human life.

A dictatorship could be a good thing if the dictator puts the people before himself. It is very rare.

You mean totally against human nature.
