Tea Party backers outnumbered in Wisconsin budget demonstrations

Where I work, many people make $11/hr and call in sick all the time. They have to have a doctors note if they want to get paid for it, but the points against their attendance is the same, so many people choose to not get paid. If people can afford it on 11/hr, it must not be a huge burden.

Some people plan in advance or an opportunity falls in their lap like going to the Superbowl or a game, and then they call in sick... The day after the Superbowl a local radio station had a contest.. who had the funniest excuse to not go to work? Some guy actually stole an "In memory of" postcard from a viewing and told his boss it was his dead relative. Another guy put a blow torch on his @ss and went to the ER and got an excuse. He even dropped his pants for his boss to see...

People are f'ed up.

Actually they can't miss work to protest, however many were getting "doctors" excuses at the rally. Don't know if they were real doctors but they were giving excuses with only a name a birthday for the days missed.

link? I never needed a note from my doctor to get off work on a saturday....and most doctors don't work on saturdays so it wouldn't make sense anyway...

most people do not work on saturdays.....
are you suggesting that public employees don't work? I suppose some could be fired and the system would still function, but so would any business as well.
Including where you work....

What are you talking about MOST people dont work on saturdays. The only people I have Ever met who didnt work on saturdays were gov't employees. Even the military isnt guaranteed saturdays off.Who runs businesses, checks you out at walmart, runs the gas station...Hell, my sister is a banker and works saturday and sundays.

Your wise post proves that Lincoln was indeed right. You cannot fool all the people all of the time. But that far right video is fooling a few.

and that isn't MOST people, get a grip on reality....
Some of us work on weekends, but certainly not MOST of us....if you can back up your claim, you should post a link....
but I am sure you can't..

A lot of them will lose their jobs if they aren't careful. The money just isn't going to be there to keep them all on.

That is a legitimate way to cut the budget, reduce staff and increase classroom sizes to 45 or 50 kids per class....

If there are so many people in WI who dont want this then why did they vote for it by having a Republican Gov and Senate??

Many of those protesters don't even live in Wisconsin. They are union people who are worried the same thing will happen in other states if the bill passes there.
It's my understanding that Walkers is getting thousands of E-mails, mostly in support of what he is doing. Part of his platform was to do something about the cost of public sector workers and he still won. In my opinion he is just keeping his promise to those who voted for him.

Please read the info about the source for this "report". Unless you see a story like this on a reputable and verifiable news outlet and not some far right propaganda outlet, it should be considered as possible bogus and give no respect of any kind.

If I were a right winger in Wisconsin and wanted to cast doubt on the union protestors, this doctor bit is a perfect way to do it.

I did see it on Fox today. That's kinda reputable. They seem to be fair and bal-

Bwaahhahaha...screw it, I couldn't keep a straight face.

I had a dumb friend who called in sick with 24 hr flu. Came in next day with a bad sunburn. Lucky our boss had a sense of humor. :)

as long as the friend drank plenty of fluids while keeping warm......sounds like good medicine to me.

if a person really wants to believe something stupid, they will find a way to do it....
and the far right is as gullible as they come..

While Walker ran on a platform of repealing tax increases on the wealthiest people in Wisconsin and cutting the overall compensation of state employees, he didn't specify a plan to undermine the very existence of public employee unions by lifting their right to collective bargaining and other things.

This struggle between the public employee unions and the conservatives who have firm control of the Wisconsin governorship and legislature is now revealed as an existential fight. That other states led by Republican governors and Republican dominated legislatures are likewise attempting similar assaults on public employees' right to organize, a national pattern is emerging of a coordinated conspiracy to destroy the last major liberal organizations that can challenge conservative funded entities enabled under the 2010 Citizens United U.S. Supreme Court decision.

What we are witnessing may later be recognized as nothing less than a conservative putsch on the American political system.

You mean the story which has already been refuted as nothing more than a right wing plant?

Wisconsin Protesters Breitbarted Over Bogus Teachers' Excuses | Crooks and Liars

Fox News broke this bulletin about an hour ago. It stems from a video posted by the MacIver Institute Wisconsin alleging that a doctor is signing bogus excuses for teachers protesting in Madison. Because it is illegal for teachers to strike, they called in sick and have been told they will have to produce a valid doctors excuse in order to be excused for their absences.

So isn't it interesting that a right-wing organization would produce a news report saying such excuses are fabricated? Usually, the way this works is that part of the final negotiation also forgives the days missed for protests, by the way, so this is ginned up nonsense from the start.

I don't work work on Saturdays.... Neither does my wife... or most of my family... actually now that I think about it... the company I work for... nobody in it works on a Saturday except for maybe the janitors... most of my teachers didn't work on Saturday...

Maybe the people in Georgia never got the word about the 40 hour work week.....

If the teachers, and the other WI public servants don't want to give in a little toward their health care, and retirement just like everyone else, they need to find other employment. Public service sectors should have never been allowed to unionize in the first place.

Well Boo Freakin Hoo! You damned near need a collage degree these days to wash dishes so what? With the level of education going into the crapper, a collage degree means little anymore.

But even if it did, let's take your premise shall we? Are you saying that just because they hold a degree in teaching, they should have better benefits than their private sector counterparts? Why?

Your anger is causing you to miss the obvious point. It is inherently unfair and outright dishonest to compare apples to cinder blocks. It also does not make for very good pie.

I await the posting of your data which shows that dishwasher jobs require a college degree. That should be interesting. In fairness to you, you did say "damned near need a college degree" so perhaps you need not present evidence of a dishwasher need a full Bachelors but merely an Associates.

I said damned near smartie. But never the less, instead of trying to cloud the issue, why don't you tell me why it is that I should pay for their HC, and Pension? Why can't they contribute?

The teachers who called in a sick out, ought to be fired and stripped of their pensions.

You may get your wish.

I'll betcha these teachers go back to work with a huge chip on their shoulder, only to find student of parents who have zero sympathy for them.

There could be some ugly PTA meetings in the offing.

I thought you were a conservative....
Jobs that require degrees should pay more, otherwise only a few will get an education, and we will all end up listening to those few tell us what to do and when to do it....

Oh wait, we have pundits doing our thinking for us.....too late, we are doomed to follow other empires into the dustbin of history....
