The current Egyptian government doesn't seem to abide by the standards of liberty.

Whose standards? You cannot just impose US standards on civilizations that have been around for 5,000 years longer than America. What exactly are "US standards" anyway - republican standards or democrat?

Awwwww....So the communist, socialist backed totalitarian relgious fanatics that want Shria law spread throughout the entire world, and the extinsion of all Jews are being supressed....That's just too bad.

j-mac
Yes according to you. And those pesky christians that want to be represented as well in Egypt. Freedom has become a dirty word once again amongst you conservatives.

Re: Report: Saudis Warned Obama Not to 'Humiliate' Mubarak Read more: http://www.fox

All WHAT? US credibility left with dubya, cheney et al. It just doesn't come back that fast sorry. Look at America itself - there are still people in the South upset about the US Civil War.

So the United States has lost credibility in the Middle East because of the previous administration and that there are people in the South still upset about the civil war?

Do you have a link for that?

I think my statement went over your head. Are you arguing that the current Egyptian Government respects its citizens freedom?

You tell me.

As far as credibiilty goes we were continually told "they hate our freedoms". After further investigaion it seems WE hate both ours and their freedoms.

Re: Report: Saudis Warned Obama Not to 'Humiliate' Mubarak Read more: http://www.fox

Americans blame the president who occupies the office at the time an adverse event occurs. It is the American way.

Obama is being blamed because this happened on his watch. His predecessors don't matter in this context.

So now I wonder...will Obama get the credit since Mubarak has now stepped down?

Yes if history ends at this moment in time. But only people who are unfamiliar with the history of revolutions think that the drama is over when the curtain comes down on the first act.;)

I think we can disagree on that. There are no pictures of Obama cuddling up to Saudi princes and kissing them on the lips like dubya used to have to do. The Saudis are racist and arrogant. They are also probably behind 9-11. Any American who looks to the Saudis for what is good for the US is misguided, IMO anyway.

It doesn't get much more humiliating for America than this blatant ass-kissing.

I have no doubt some strong back room messages were sent to mubarak after he fooled the US president.... I bet he and his get air lifted out in the next few weeks.

Obama got fooled (or his intelligence did), but I think he corrected the mistake, and that's what you are seeing here.

Remember folks this is the suez canal, the world will go to war to keep it open.

Bowing? dubya's grovelling, it's way past bowing. You don't think that is a humiliating picture of the President of the United States of America? Take a closer look at the facial expressions and tell me which one is doing what he is told and which one is doing the telling. The only mystery is whether dubya's head is hesitating on the way down or on the way back up.

Kissing is a traditional arab greeting. Not a sign of submission or subservience.

obama-bow-to-saudis.jpg

Bowing is actually an insult to islam. Bowing deeper than the person you are greeting indicates you are lesser in stature.

I've lived in the ME, and in Asia.... Obviously you only live on the daily kos.
Traditional arab greeting.

Stop being the "ugly american"

Whatever an American president does overseas which might be used against him by his domestic opposition will be so used by that opposition. That limits what presidents can do.

Way to pull a straw man. So you admit the Egyptian government doesnt respect its citizens freedom?

Having sex with younger boys/men is also an Arabic tradition. After 9-11 there is not much doubt about who got screwed.

dubya wasn't an Arab. Was he?

My comment is not a straw man at all. If you are accusing the Egyptian government of a lack of democratic values there is an implicit comparison to some country that has the democratic values you respect. Most people who pass such a judgment would make the comparison to their own country. Aren't you American?

IMO no nation respects all democratic values all the time so I have refrained from comment about Egypt. You have commented, so I am asking for some scale on which to assess your comment.

this is racist, and borderline hate speech. You should be ashamed. Though You were doing it to avoid the embarrasment of your ignorance on arab customs and greetings.
