(Reuters) - One of the most powerful cyclones on record slammed into Australia's coast on Thursday, uprooting trees, tearing roofs off buildings and raising the danger of deadly storm surges.
Cyclone Yasi, packing winds of up to 300 km (186 miles) an hour near its core, come ashore along hundreds of kilometers of northeast coastline late on Wednesday.
This is beyond anything that we have ever experienced in the United States. Sustained winds of 186 MPH beats even Cecile, which hit Mississippi in 1968.
Say a prayer for Australia. They are going to need it.
