Nearly two months after WikiLeaks outraged the U.S. government by launching the release of a massive compendium of diplomatic documents, the secret-spilling website has published 2,628 U.S. State Department cables — just over 1 percent of its trove of 251,287 documents.
And much more is to be released. And I am on both sides of this issue. Why? Because there are actually two issues here.
1) On the one hand, releasing names of those who cooperated with the US in the war on terror, thus putting them and their families at risk, is unconscionable. People should be going to jail for that.
2) On the other hand, as a member of "We the People", I have the God damn right to know just what the hell my leaders are doing in my name. My leaders do not own the United States of America, and they do not have the right to do things in secret, behind my back. They work for ME, and this is MY damn country. It doesn't belong to the CIA, General Electric, President Obama, George Bush, or any other entity except the people of the United States of America, of which I am a member. This is MY damn country, and I demand transparency.
2 months after the leak, and there are still almost a quarter of a million documents yet to be released. Let them be released, and let the chips fall where they may. The American people, for the first time in decades, may have the opportunity to see just how far the rot is ingrained in the apple. And I believe that this is what is scaring the bejesus out of those who claim to be our leaders.
Let it leak, and let those would be rulers of the people face the consequences of their actions. It's already hit the fan, and I believe that we have not even seen the tip of the iceberg yet. Well, it's time to see the whole damn thing, for the sake of our nation, and "We the People".
Once again - MY DAMN COUNTRY!
Article is here.
