Outspoken Tucson sheriff faces recall bid

I never made any claims, just defending the sheriffs right to the same free speech that your favorite pundits get paid millions for.......

And apparently, in Arizona, the voters have the right to recall their elected officials when they don't like the way they are being represented...

not stupid, ignorant perhaps....ignorance being the lack of knowledge concerning who you listen to. The way you defend them, I assumed you listen to them, sorry...
How is what the sheriff did a political attack? Is he up for election? I think he said what is on a lot of people's minds, that the heated rhetoric is too much. If pundits want to smear politicians with the truth, I am all for it. But when you start expanding past truth, the only reputation smeared is their own. That is why I despise pundits, that can't help themselves, they can't stick with just the facts, ma'am.....
and then there are the many, many listeners who so willingly suspend disbelief because it is what they WANT to hear....

You say facts. So examine the facts. Some self important little prick obsessed about a congresswoman. Didnt need any help...didnt need any poking or prodding. Hatched some plan to show the world how relevant he was. Shot a congressman and 15 others. End facts. Then along comes Barney Fife...and instead of giving facts or making statements relevant to the case at hand spends the next week spouting his own opinion about hate speech and violent rhetoric and the role it 'must' have played in all this. End fact. Thats it. There is nothing more. People that speculate based on their own biases are morons. People that use the death of others to promote their own biases are scumbags.

We have more than one sheriff, we also have Sheriff Joe.....
Arizona isn't near the embarrassment that Washington, D. C. is....

and you should talk, you gave us LBJ the liar, no tax increase Bush, and tax cut while fighting a war Bush.....:2razz:

Touché on the TX presidents. However, I consider Sheriff Joe to be just another embarrassment for ya'll.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio enforces the law and he refuses to be a puppet for no one.

As I have already pointed out - the greatest crime anyone can commit against the right wing True Believers is to brand them as such and expose them for what they really are and what their tactics are. So now Sheriff Dupnik has their gun sights focused upon him despite his long and fine record of service to the people. He who dares to raise his voice against what they truly are must be targeted and eliminated as job one.

interesting how you assume i'm 'right wing' for defending free speech, is the right wing the prodominent defenders of liberty in this country? god i hope not.

I am not the least bit surprised about the recall petition. Personally, I dispise Palin, Beck, Limbaugh... in fact all parsian pundit hate mongers right or left... with a pink-and-purple passion. But when this supposed law enforcement professional opened his big mouth within hours of the attack, before even the slightest hint of investigation had actually begun and certainly before a warrant could be issued that discovered this very sick young man had beenplotting to kill Gifford for more than 3 freaking years, I actually did a real-life facepalm and stared at my tv in abject astonishment.

This guy tainted the jury pool within hours of the incident by implying that the assassination attempt was (A) polically motived... it wasn't... and (B) that Republican rhetoric was to blame... it wasn't. I mean, he just handed Loughner's attorneys an entire defense strategy and set himself up as a witness for the defense. I simply could NOT believe this buffoon was for real.

I imagine a lot of Arizonians are pretty damned miffed at him, not only for what I've already discribed but also for insulting the entire state by declaring it a hotbed of racism and discrimination. I suspect the only reason he's kept his job for so long is that nothing happened in his district previously that was noticeable enough to shine a spotlight on what an incompetent boob he really is.

I think what the left is really upset about, has nothing to do with anything, this is one of those perfectly good crisis that they so often talk about to be used. To them it's not the shame of what happened, the shame is that they can't use it to their political advantage by somehow blaming the right. That's what they are angry about.

The sheriff tried, his very best to weave a political spin into this, some of the people that elected him found this offensive, how many? We'll have to wait and see, but to call these people anything but concerned citizens is just plain wrong, even if they are a minority, they have every right to voice their opinion, regardless of the outcome, the people have a right to ask for a recall vote, just as regardless of the outcome it will be the right one, because that will be what the people in his district want.

We still don't know what motivated him or if the shootings weren't politically inspired.

the SHERIFF is a pundit?

What exactly did Sheriff Dupnik say that merits his recall from office after thirty years of meritorious service to the people of that county?

I want to tell you I hope that all Americans are as saddened and shocked as we are, and I hope that some of them or most of them are as angry as I am and as a lot of us are. And I think it’s time as a country that we need to do a little soul searching, because the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people the radio business and some people in the TV business, and what we see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised, that this has not become the nice United States of America that most of us grew up in, and I think it’s time that we do the soul searching.

When you look at unbalanced people--how they are--how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government--the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous and unfortunately Arizona, I think, has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.

Let me just say one thing, because people tend to poo-poo all this business about all the vitriol we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech, but it’s not without consequences.

I see nothing in those comments from Sheriff Dupnik to warrant his ouster from the office he has so able served for three decades.

This should be expected from an open borders guy like yourself...

j-mac

Arizona has closed their border? Oh, not yet. Let me know when they do close the border. That would be quite an accomplishment.

The statement said that between February and September last year, campus police were called five times to deal with disruptions Loughner caused in classrooms and libraries. On Sept. 29, the college said, it discovered that Loughner had posted a YouTube video he had made on the campus.
"In the video, he claims that the College is illegal according to the U.S. Constitution, and makes other claims," the college's statement said.
On Oct. 4, during a meeting with Loughner, his parents and college administrators, he agreed to withdraw, the college said. School officials told him he could return only if he obtained a clearance certifying that "in the opinion of a mental health professional, his presence at the College does not present a danger to himself or others." Tucson shooting suspect Jared Loughner appears to have posted bizarre messages

thank you, my wise and most humane friend

on a related note---paul krugman was a panelist on yesterday's this week on abc

twenty minutes and not a word---say, paul, do you STILL feel about the giffords shooting the way you expressed yourself so publicly mere minutes after the echoes of gunfire subsided?

isn't that the natural question

i mean, after all the incendiary indictments the nobel winner so immediately inflamed

they desperately want it all to go away, now

it reminds me of the time the rev-rund jesse jackson went on chrissy matthews' hardball about ten days after being caught, sotto voce, wishing for the castration of then candidate obama

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/10/aw-nuts-jesse-jackson-you_n_111903.html

and the interminably thrilled chrissy goes on (HA!) for ten minutes about day-to-day's, just as if he forgot

i assure you, very few of his (or christiane amanpour's) viewers did---it's not natural

how embarrassing---for chrissy and christiane

party on, progressives

your elites always know best

Everyone claiming this guys was insane is going to do more to assure that he escapes the death penalty more than anything the sheriff said.

i'm stunned it requires pointing out

1. the shooter probably IS insane

2. all the folks sayin it AREN'T the sheriff

So he will avoid the death penalty because everyone thinks he's insane. Case closed.

he may even be found not guilty by reason of insanity, like hinckley, for all i know

doesn't alter the fact that the top law enforcement officer in pima politicized this tragedy, was wrong, resorted to a gag order and now faces a recall

party on, all

pray for ms giffords, her family, the other victims and theirs

Arizona has tough laws when it comes to the insanity defense. He will never see freedom again but he will avoid the death penalty.
