Hey randel,

Have you ever heard of the Korean Hero called King Sejong? His naval valor against the Japanese during the Imjin Wars is legendary.

But before he became famous, he was called YOO HOO. OH YOO HOO..................

Re: SKorea storms Somali pirates to rescue ship crew Read more: http://www.foxnews.c

The increase of pirates is due to the fact that countries and companies have financed them. BY paying out ransoms they finance these scumbags and are no better than the pirates themselves.
:lamo

Yes, such a shame companies are looking after only themselves.

I'm seriously impressed by the Pirates and their reach now.

By the end of the year, they'll be deep in Indian Ocean
Edit: Note how many hijackings are happening close to Somalia. You deserve it

In this instance. Congrats to the Koreans for a successful operation.

As for the overall problem. Killing will not solve it... entirely.

Unless you're willing to destroy every coastal town capable of launching a skiff in Somalia.

Now THERE'S an idea... :p

Piracy and terrorism are the only thing Somalis are good at.

Huh??? The Imjin War was in the 1590s.

King Sejong the Great was king in the 15th century (r. 1418-1450) and was known for the Hangul writing system, not martial prowess...

Oh enough with the terrorism.

That word has been banded about for SO long. It has lost all meaning to me

I think you mean Piracy and Civil war is what Somalis are good at ...and frankincense .... and camels .... :D

Wouldn't work and we both know it.

And we also know no country is willing to risk the consequence
Pirates are the lesser evil and Governments know it

Actually, the Somali community in America is fertile ground for the recruitment of terrorists. There has even been a Somali American suicide bomber. Al Shaabab recruits in America.

Shame on the companies for financing these scumbags. Personally I would like to see a list of these pieces of **** who keep financing these scumbags that way if I can I can personally boycott them.

As long as degenerate companies and countries keep financing these scumbags their reach will grow bigger than just the Indian Ocean.

The first generation of Korean turtle ships actually PREDATE his reign by a few years, but the ships used more than 140 years after the end of his reign were much more advanced than those of the 15th century...

Hahahahahaha. Funny.
US helped strengthen Al Shabab and now they are complaining. Unintended consequence of overthrowing a Government is a bitch isn't it US?

Somalis in Europe haven't done that. So what is US doing wrong that Europe hasn't? :2wave:

I was being tongue in cheek... I wouldn't endorse such a policy and you know that...

However, something does need to be done about the problem in the Horn of Africa, but it is a problem that really needs to be addressed by the Arab League working in concert with the African Union.

I have always maintained that there is only 3 ways to sort out Piracy but knowing the world, it's going to stumble around and screw it up for a few years and then finally get it right.

I'm not sure. Somalis seem to be different that other Muslim Americans. I don't know why. It's too bad.

Maybe because many of the Muslim Americans immigrants are Arab/Asian? Somalis are African.
Wouldn't know, nor do I care. Not my country who has to deal with it

Can't you find out who paid the ransoms? It's hardly a secret. Just find ships which have been caught and then released. They paid a ransom

Such a shame that would be ... *cough*

Edit: Oh and I know many won't know it. But something major happened to Pirates/Somalia this last week.
Puntland has seperated itself from TFG. What it may mean for Pirates is unknown as Puntland supports them and blocked a bill coming through "Parliament" to crack down on them

The FBI has the Somali community in America under intense observation at all times. Neither the Somalis nor other Americans are very happy about how things have turned out.

The Arabs and Asian Muslims in America are from the highest classes and calibers of people in the lands of their origins. The Somalis seem to be more a cross section of Somali society.

Ahh, Somalis wouldn't like being observed. I can imagine how they'd react.
Alot of self policing occurs in Somali communities and add to that our clans. I'm surprised US hasn't had violence/deaths between Somalis who hail from different clans. It'll happen sooner or later.

Oh and the fact Western society has removed/weakened Somali Mothers method of discipline (physical, very physical). It's a matter of time before some of the Men fall into gangs and/or crime. But I can be wrong ofc so don't take my words as a prediction of the future.

That's probably a negative. South Korea sent troops to Vietnam. You could be thinking about Japan. I know they all look the same to you.

Look at the post again. I highlighted Japan....

Is reading a problem for you?

Re: SKorea storms Somali pirates to rescue ship crew Read more: http://www.foxnews.c

For generations, Somalis made a living fishing their rich waters. Families of fishermen plied the coastline with traditional dhows and motorised skiffs.

Under the decades-long rule of Siad Barre, the country's former president, a maritime force protected the fisheries for domestic use. This force also sold lucrative licences to foreign companies that wanted to join in, the naval historian Gary Weir explained in the article, Fish, Family and Profit: Piracy in the Horn of Africa, published in the US Naval War College Review.

That government collapsed in 1991, but the UN peacekeeping force that oversaw the country for the next four years dispatched a naval unit to continue to monitor the waters.

In 1995 they withdrew. Foreign firms began swooping into the country's waters with little fear of repercussion.

At first the Somali "pirates" consisted of fishermen who boarded the foreign vessels to accuse them of trespassing and demand compensation.

They called themselves a coastguard and were often organised by local clan militias. The clans also began requiring foreign fishermen to buy expensive licences.

Good for the fishermen.
The link is particularly interesting in giving the backstory of what gave rise to the Piracy and abit about the reach of the Pirates. Not many foreigners know Pirates get information about ships from the Somali diaspora as far away as US.

Pirates should be shot on site. Period. When word gets around on land that death is the penalty to the crime, the young guys that think they can get away with it or get rich from it will at least think twice.

Sooner or later the hard cases will be dead and the others will be less likely to take on ships they know will kill them.

There are no rules out there and the rest of the world should play by their rules.

Re: SKorea storms Somali pirates to rescue ship crew Read more: http://www.foxnews.c

I am quite impressed. The SK ship followed the pirates for a week, waiting until exactly the right moment, then after a 5-hr gun battle, they rescued every damned hostage without a single injury. Damn. That's some fine work. Those soldiers know their stuff. I salute the hell out of them.

Re: SKorea storms Somali pirates to rescue ship crew Read more: http://www.foxnews.c

The way to end Somali piracy is to hire Ethiopian mercenaries to simly move in, destroy the facilities used by the pirates, burn their villages and boats, and to kill their young men. Their young women can be sterilized so the Ethiopians don't have to kill them too. Western fingerprints wont be on this action.
