Bin Laden threatens France in new message - Yahoo! News

CAIRO – Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden called on France to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan in exchange for releasing French hostages being held by affiliates of the extremist group, according to a new audio message broadcast on an Arabic news channel Friday.

"The exit of your hostages out of the hands of our brothers depends on the exit of your troops from Afghanistan," bin Laden said in the message broadcast by al-Jazeera.

Bin Laden reminded the French people of President Nicolas Sarkozy's refusal in November to withdraw the French troops from Afghanistan and to negotiate with al-Qaida over the hostages.

"Your president's rejection is a result of being a hireling to America and a green light to kill the hostages ... his stand will cost you a high price on different aspects inside or outside France," he said.

So, will Sarkozy and the French capitulate to Bin Laden, or will they stick it out?

Is this even a serious question?

Of course it's not. We all know that France is making plans to fold up to AQ, as we speak.

Just like Canada folded, the other day. They're a buncha real badasses, too. Not!!!

It is just another pathetic France bashing thread.

France has been battling terror far longer than the US and been far more successful in many ways.

So it aint like France would "surrender" now, since they have not done so to terror the last 40 years.. so why all of a sudden start now... just because a bunch of ....... American's think it is funny to make fun of the French surrender in WW2.

You are incorrect, I love French culture and history. I speak French. My question and the reason for this thread was to begin a discussion as to how the French may respond to this threat. Especially in the current political environment where many view France as becoming increasingly anti-Islam.

Yeah, by giving in to the bad guys. :lamo

We don't think it's funny. We know it's funny. Epsecially since the French hate us so much.

Easy Apdst, the French did help the US during the revolution, and sold us the Louisianna Territories on the cheap, so don't hate too much. And they do not hate Americans per say, just the arrogance of this is our world and you owe us for WWII that some Americans express.

For me, I'm pretty sure Bin Laden is dead. I just don't buy any of this.

Maybe if I saw a video tape or something... I unno, you'd figure if this guy had the recourses to evade capture from a world superpower, he could get his hands on a crappy video camera...

I really don't get the French surrender meme. They've fought and won a lot more wars than we have, and they've been doing it longer. Hell, even when a vastly superior force overran their country and occupied it, their official surrender was mostly in name only because the resistance kept fighting throughout and had a critical role in intelligence that made D-Day possible.

Read a history book some time. The French have been pretty badass.

Not for a long time. They also managed to hand over thousands of jews to the germans and managed to contribute some 50,000 or so volunteers to the german armed forces opposing the russians. Let's not forget before surrending they did manage to kill a few americans on the beaches of north africa too. As you indicated.....it's all in the history books.

They also got us into Vietnam...the jerks.

But they won't surrender here, they hate Muslims.

France has plenty arrogance. Especially when it affected their contract deals with Saddam Hussein in the area of nuclear power and weapons. Our troops didn't find weapons shipped to Hussein shortly before the war began. So we don't owe the French anything.

Yeah! You guys are a bunch of surrender monkeys. Stand underneath the Arc de Triumph and notice all the battles and victories mentioned were long ago. France is the country of Vichy not Napolean.

Vichy France. Get with the program. The French are no longer the people of Napolean and Charles Martel.

Are you not shocked by the anti-French feelings you see on this board? We really don't like you folks.

While Americans might hate on the French. And call them weak. The French have always been involved in American wars and they have always been on our side. So we should realize that the French will not withdraw. They are our friends and we will continue to fight together.

Now you know how Stosh and Stan feel. Or the rabbi, the priest and the minister. ;-)

All in good fun, PeteEU.

Actually, Vichy French forces killed American soldiers of the Big Red One during Operation Torch in November 1942.

And French forces were key in making sure that the US forces got off the beaches of Normandy, not to mention saving thousands of US airmen through various "pipelines".

You can hate the Vichy French, but the fact is that it was a minority of people that actually supported the Vichy French government, and as soon as the Vichy French troops had a chance to switch sides.. they did.

The Vichy French were no different than the American politicians and businessmen who supported the Nazi's before the war.. I believe one of them was named Bush. Only real difference was that the French dealt with their traitors.. the American's did not.

Americans didn't turn over Jews to the Nazis. The French did with enthusiasm.

The French didn't help American forces off of Normandy. They were hiding so they wouldn't get killed during the fight. Don't be ridiculous. The French are worthless.

There is no such thing as treason in America.

Wow, what a shocker. A thread full of French bashing and surrender jokes....

Well, except for the Civil War.

No one I know hates the French. That premise is dead wrong. They are the brunt of jokes no differently than Polish jokes for their ill-perceived shortcomings in WWII. Means nothing.
