Destructive device found along Spokane MLK parade route

(CNN) -- A backpack containing a potentially deadly device capable of inflicting "multiple casualties" was found in Spokane, Washington, along the route of a Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. parade, the FBI said Tuesday.

The device was discovered Monday morning by three parade workers before the event, FBI supervisory agent Frank Harrill told CNN. The city's explosives disposal unit neutralized the device.

The gray backpack was placed on a bench at the northeast corner of North Washington Street and West Main Avenue in downtown Spokane, the FBI said in a statement.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Good thing someone was diligent enough to notice it.

Good thing American terrorist suck at improvised explosive devices. Every other day I hear about some improvised explosive device that was intercepted and disengaged, and not one yet has exploded. If only our boys in Iraq were so lucky.

How do you know the bomber was an American?

What I meant was a terrorist who is in America. The insurgents in Iraq seem to be much more efficient at blowing **** up.

Well, not really. The insurgents set off some 80,000 IED's and only inflicted 4,000 casualties and not all of those were from IED's.

I'm sure Sarah Palin had something to do with it

The T-Shirts found in the bag lead one to ask WTF?

Was it a can of mace in there??

Here we go, a little more informative information.

The bomb, described as a small pipe bomb, was designed to be triggered by a radio frequency system, and was directional – meaning it was designed to spray its deadly shrapnel in the direction it was pointed, law enforcement sources said. Aimed at the parade route, it could have caused multiple casualties among the marchers. About 1,500 people showed up for the parade.

The case is being actively investigated by the FBI's Inland Northwest Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever made the device.

The FBI has released pictures of the bag and two tee-shirts that were in the bag. The FBI is attempting to locate local security camera footage and is also asking individuals who have pictures or video from the event to contact the FBI.

Conservatives, in general, since we're all racists.

Man. I'm slow.
This one will be blamed on the Tea Party and not so much on Palin.
Yep, it's some old white conservative probably.

Regardless of race...regardless of nationality...regardless of motivation...may they find this person and deal with them in a most horrible and efficient way.

If I had to guess given the location and the trgeted group I would expect it to be someone who supports ayran nation type ideals. The Pac Northwest was a hot bed of Ayran Nation activity in the late 80s' and early 90's

Good to see this thread didn't take long to get partisan...

Please, can we have one thread without people for or against Palin bringing her up?

But she's evil.........

Why do people look at things like backpacks and question their presence?
I find this interesting most of all.

For some reason when I see an abandoned backpack or something i don't immediately draw a conclusion that it's suspicious - more so - I think it's likely accidentally left behind and quite harmless.

If I saw that I likely would have thought or done nothing. So It's a good thing I didn't come across it.

I guess that's what people bet on.

You know, I've never actually seen an instance where somebody said this. Can you help me out on where you get it from?

(well, other than conservatives attributing the view to liberals anyway)

Un-****ing-believable. I can't believe how you're playing dumb here.
