Instead of using the situation in Mexico to make the border more secure the anti-2nd amendment president wishes to use the situation in Mexico to **** on the constitution. Its none of the government damn business what weapons or how many weapons someone buys.

The Obama administration's plan to force new reporting requirements on thousands of gun dealers near the Mexico border is under fire from members of his own party.

At least three Democrats in the Senate and several more in the House are voicing opposition to a proposed regulation from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that would require about 8,500 gun dealers in four states – California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas – to report gun sales of two or more high-powered rifles sold within five consecutive business days.

The proposal isn't connected in any way to the mass shooting in Arizona last weekend that left six people dead and 14 others wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., because the suspect used a handgun, which is already covered under these reporting requirements.

The new regulation would cover semiautomatic rifles greater than .22 caliber with detachable magazines.

Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, has asked the ATF to withdraw its request to the White House for emergency authority to enact the regulation.
"While I understand the importance of cracking down on violence and gun trafficking along the U.S.-Mexico border, this wide-reaching regulation would punish law-abiding American gun owners and impede their Second Amendment rights," Begich wrote in a letter last week to ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson. "Instead, we must secure our border and target Mexican drug cartels, as well as participating offenders in the United States."

The proposal also faces opposition from Montana's two Democratic senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester, as well as 36 House members in both parties who say the regulation would subject gun dealers to burdensome requirements.

A requirement to report sales does not in any way violate the second amendment right to keep and bear arms. There is no infringement of the second amendment here, sorry.

It also wouldn't do squat good towards anything.

Any new requirement is questionable as is anything Obama does.

As I see it add any regulation to anything having to do your rights is just a foot in the door.

I'm sorry but I do not trust Obama as far as i can throw an Abrams Tank.

Everything he does is calculated and not in the long term interest of us our our Nation as a whole.

He is Anti-American as it teaches in his Black Liberation Theology.

I wish people would take the time to look into Rev. Write and what he preaches and Obama sat and listened to for 20 years. Match that up with his being raised by Communists ans you start to get a picture of who he is and why he has surrounded himself with like thinking Radicals.

He uses the speeches written for for him to spew his propaganda and relies on the 5th column media to back his every move with hate mongering rhetoric like from Matthews, Olbermann, Es Schultz and the pundits on ABC,CBS, NBC, and CNN.

I'd like to know what's to be reported. Is it just the sale itself or does it include who the guns were sold to so the Fed government can keep tabs on them? I find the latter scenario scarier than people buying guns.

Yes it is. It's the government's business to keep its citizens safe, and with religious fanatics all over middle America walking around with pistols and shotguns on their person, the populace isn't very safe now is it?

So, the government has several clear-cut and rightful reasons to limit and restrict the sale of weapons.

A superficial analysis is worthless.

The government most likely already knows what guns you buy, when you bought them, the price of the gun(s), and how you paid for them.

The only problem I have with it is this: Why is he specifically targeting those four states?

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

I wonder if law enforcement officers would agree with you on this. Regardless, that's an entirely different issue than a second amendment violation.

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

This is the typical liberal response to a problem, create more paperwork. The reality is that every sale is reported to the FBI, along with the name of the individual making the purchase. It has been that way for decades. If they want to know about multiple purchases of a specific type of gun, all they need to do is search their database.

My God, you constantly astound me with your ability to fulfill every single stereotype of the dumb, ignorant, gun-toting redneck. Would you please at least find a better façade for your hatred of his skin colour than "Black Liberation Theory"?

It's far too see-through, not even your fellow neocon hicks can take you seriously.

Councilman hasn't said anything that would indicate he is a neo-conservative. But you nevertheless characterize him as a neo-conservative. So why are you calling him a neo-con?

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

As I see it add any regulation to anything having to do your rights is just a foot in the door.

Then you see it incorrectly. There is plenty of regulation that touches on protected constitutional rights, but as long as these regulations are not infringement they are hardly a "foot in the door."

I wish people would take the time to look into Rev. Write and what he preaches and Obama sat and listened to for 20 years. Match that up with his being raised by Communists ans you start to get a picture of who he is and why he has surrounded himself with like thinking Radicals.

You're going off on quite a tangent here, but I'll play along.

Liberation theology is hardly a form of communism, it is a social theology that attempts to be true to Christ's message. It's what the sermon on the mount was all about. As a Catholic I do not agree with some of the finer points of Liberation Theology, but it is a commendable school of thought.

I wish people would take the time to research what Liberation Theology is all about instead of buying into the hate mongering rhetoric from the Limbaughs, Becks, Hannitys, Malkins and pundits on Fox News that try to caricature people like Reverend Wright in a politically motivated attempt to bash Obama.

It is reasonable, and not racist, to believe that an individual that is a member of a church that preaches black liberation and socialism also believes in black liberation and socialism.

It is unreasonable to conflate socialism with Liberation Theology, since they are entirely different things.

It is also racist if your criticism of "Black [sic] Liberation Theology" has nothing to do with the substance of the theological movement itself, but rather is based out of a hatred of the people who make up the movement.

I know you won't let facts dissuade you but, I'll point this out anyway;

The oft-cited credo that more guns equal more crime is being tested by facts on the ground this year: Even as gun ownership has surged in the US in the past year, violent crime, including murder and robbery, has dropped steeply.

Here's some more facts to support the thesis that higher rates of lawful gun ownership increases freedom, a study which shows just that:
SSRN-Is There a Relationship between Guns and Freedom? Comparative Results from 59 Nations by David Kopel, Carlisle Moody, Howard Nemerov

Let's hope that facts do have some impact on our friend here:)

You can do as many NRA studies as you want, mate (and there are, by the way, plentiful studies saying the direct opposite -- in fact, a supermajority of studies claim that more guns = more gun violence), but you can't get around the fact that there were ~12,000 gun crimes committed in the US last year, and there were 68 in the UK.

By the way, I'd be happy to link the studies for you, if you're willing to have a debate on the subject.

As well, your link was fake. Check it.

Not in that church.

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

Not in that church.

He's not in a church in that video clip, he is speaking at an event for the New York Society for Ethical Culture. So my point still stands, I have yet to see any evidence that there is any factual basis for this conflation of Liberation Theology and socialism. Rev. Wright apparently is a socialist, but that does not mean Liberation Theology is inherently socialistic.

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

The proposed regulation is obviously aimed at the drug war that is raging just across our southern border, and threatening to spill over to our side. It probably won't be effective, even if it passes, but that must be the rationale behind it. The most likely effect of proposing such a regulation, whether or not it passes, will be to increase arms sales as the rumors once again begin to fly about Obama sending his minions house to house collecting guns prior to establishing a dictatorship.

Re: Obama Administration's New Proposed Gun Regulation for Border States Met With Bip

It is reasonable, and not racist, to believe that an individual that is a member of a church that preaches black liberation and socialism also believes in black liberation and socialism.

He has publicly stated he is neither, nor does he continue to attend that church, and he has publicly denounced the Reverend.

Faced with this information, you've got a choice: Admit your fault, or fall further into conspiracy by now heaping on top of "Black Liberation Theorist" "Un-American" and "Socialist" the moniker of "Public Liar" about his past and present motives, and, based on the paltry evidence you've provided, that's far too much of a leap.

So, then, as I can't reasonably say that your assumptions about Obama are plausible, I turn to the other possible defective link in the chain -- you. I look at you, and I see you're "very conservative", and from Texas, and so, correct me if I've assumed wrong, also white.

Thus, I can reasonably surmise that, as a white conservative, you're very much opposed to a liberal black man holding power over you. Hence, you label him with a bunch of ridiculous conspiratiorial terms, in order to justify your hatred.

That, my friend, is called logic. Try it some time.

Those stats did not come from the NRA, they were from the FBI. Yes, there are lots more guns in the US than there is in the UK so there will be more "gun crime" (although, given the population of the US, 12000 is a very low number). That's not the question though. If guns equal crime then general crime rates should go up if gun ownership goes up. That was not the case.

By the way, I'd be happy to link the studies for you, if you're willing to have a debate on the subject.
