Ron Reagan Saw Signs of Father's Alzheimer's at White House - ABC News

It is always the family that see the sign's first, but if the family and his advisor's hid this fact from the rest of the world... then damn.. Why on earth if they knew, did they allow him to run for a second term? Who ran the country for the whole of Reagan's second term then?

"Why did they allow him to run for a second term?" Probably because it's easier to get what you want out of a guy whose brain is rotting away.

"Who ran the country during his second term?" Probably the people who profited the most under captain dementia's reign.

Alzheimer's becomes noticeable to family long before it becomes debilitating, in a lot of cases.

Little memory loss effects many in slight ways and if you were around to watch President Reagan in action during his second turn you will not be able to point to any incident that I am aware of where the signs were noticeable. At least I don't remember seeing any.

There were joke made about how he would sleep during Cabinet Meetings but mostly those jokes were laughed off.

As to who may have been in charge keep in mind that George H.W. Bush was his VP and it was said many times that Nancy was the brains behind the scenes.

I think to bring this up when there are no problems you can point to that put the nation at risk is just spinning your wheels and besides I doubt the authenticity of the story based on the source.

Any one who ever had a head injury can have memory loss look at Jim McMahon, he said he suffer from it and he's pretty young, and still functioning.

If something had happened where we could say, "Oh well that explains that." we'd have something to talk about.

If true, and it wouldn't suprise me too much, I doubt anyone even noticed it at the time. Ron Regan is speaking in hindsight.

actually, a number of citizens expressed alarm - especially in regan's second term - that he was showing signs of senility
those concerns were countered with public information officer statements that what was being observed were the after affects of someone of regan's age after he sustained the wounds from the assault by hinckley

I can already see the liberals lining up to take their shots. And in doing so, they show their complete ignorance of this horrible disease. People would have attacked Reagan for being senile, whether he showed signs or not. And I gotta say, the man did a hell of a job, even if he was in the early stages. God bless him for all he did for this country. He remains the greatest president of my lifetime.

Ron Reagan is a liberal fool who has hated his father ever since he left Ron’s mother.

Now that you mention it I do remember the liberal horde running in circles screaming that President Reagan was crazy.

A number of citizens? Yes, a number of (far left) citizens often express concern over a (republican) president's intelectual abilities

only in this instance it turns out that our concerns were very legitimate
verdict seems in on the concerns about the shrub, too

Nixon was sharp as a tack. Reagan and Bush2 weren't.

I guess in the partisan's official book of rules, that would make me 1/3 conservative, and 2/3 far left.

Chalk this one up under the "DUH!" column. Anyone over the age of 10 in 1984 saw this.

You've seriously got to be joking. Ronald Reagan is responsible for the destruction of our manufacturing base through his deregulation policies. We are paying a heavy price today as a result of Reagan. Until we can re-establish our manufacturing base, we will continue to struggle.

No, they weren't really legitimate. They found a president that they disliked and they called him stupid. The far left did much the same with all of the republican presidents after Reagan. In this case they got lucky.

in this rare instance i have to disagree
undermining our nation's competitiveness with free trade agreements rather than fair trade agreements was a bipartisan fubar

Not really....just GWB...probably the dumbest President we've ever had. HW Bush was not dumb. I questioned much of what he did, but I never doubted his intelligence.

I agree in terms of Nafta....but most of the damage was done under Reagan.

Don't have any idea if you did or not, but many on the left did. I had many discussions with liberals back then.

The left also questioned McCain's mental accumen accusing him of senility. They even branched out to the VP's. Quayle, Palin.

It's what they tend to do. In the case of Reagan, it's possible they were correct. However, I guess if I wake up every morning and say it will rain today, i'll eventually be correct too.

Quayle and Palin were both proven idiots....there wasn't a need for the left to "branch out"...they both proved it themselves quite well.

We now know why this idiot is on MSNBC.He is a perfect replacement for Matthews

No doubt, all republican presdent and VP are idiots or suffering from senility. Let's see our list so far:

Reagan - senile
Bush1 - stupid
Quayle - stupid
Bush 2 - stupid
Cheney - evil
McCain - senile
Palin - stupid

Hopefully Cheney's designation is a sign that liberals can come up with different forms of insults.

A very nice and accurate summation of history.

Cheney is intelligent Bobby Jindal is intelligent. Newt Gingrich is intelligent. George Will is intelligent.

Dubya is not intelligent. Palin is stupid. Quayle is a dumbass.

Which people can't distinguish between intelligence and political persuasion, again?
