Sheriff's Department and community-college officials in Pima County are refusing to release a wide range of public documents about the man charged in Saturday's shooting rampage that left six dead and more than a dozen wounded.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and Pima Community College have declined to release documents that could shed light on run-ins they had with 22-year-old Jared Loughner in the months prior to the shooting.

The Arizona Public Records Law requires that records be "open to inspection by any person at all times" unless officials can prove releasing the information would violate rights of privacy or confidentiality or otherwise harm the best interests of the state.

The Arizona Republic requested that records, including incident reports on campus and calls for dispatch of deputies to Loughner's home, be released under the law. Such reports are often released as a matter of course in criminal cases.

no, actually, i'm not. but it seems you are looking to blame the sheriff's dept and the school for something.........and why are you bringing palin into this anyway? can't resist, or what?

i'm finished with that. it's been quite an eye opener just reading these posts, this doesn't seem to be a debate forum, it seems to be a forum filled with hate. people died, and what does dp do? express their hatred for the "other side". not all, of course, but way too many, and for way too long.

The short answer is Hell Yes the sheriff is covering his ass because he made it political and not about mental health and failure to stop the nut.

I am surprised the nut wasn't shot by a citizen with a concealed weapon, when I lived in AZ I carried a gun all the time, and then there were only a few places where I couldn't carry one. Now the number of places have been reduced, and you can carry one into a bar. I question the wisdom but it's the law now.

The signals that this guy was a nut were obvious and the look in his eye according to a former classmate was the norm for the nut.

Just callin' it like I see it. If there's nothing to hide, there's no reason to seal the reports.

I'm betting that the reports will prove that someone screwed the pooch and because of that loughner was not only out on the street, but he had a clean criminal record which enabled him to leagally purchase a firearm.

I can't think of any other reason for Doopnik jumped on the, "blame the Righties", bandwagon before the bodies were even cold.

Spare us would you? You've been over in the other thread trying to mock Palin for the "blood Libel" bruhaha. You're the one more interested in silly discussion lately then debate. Yet, here I asked a simple question, because the information should be released, but the sheriff and the school are not being forth coming. This is worth asking why.

You just dismiss it out right. "Oh who cares about the delay, I'm sure it will eventually come out"
 
Yeah, I'm wondering that too. If the sheriff department had been called to his house before on numerous accusations which the new york times reported in their front page today why was he not arrested for what ever he did?
 
The FBI wondering is likely one of the reasons the info hasn't been released yet.

You could be completely correct. It IS a pretty huge case, and sometimes things change, this isn't unusual in and of itself. However, If the normal practice is to release the information, then they should consider doing so so as NOT to taint the whole affair.
 
Maybe the documents will be made available after the court case. Wonder if the newspaper would be hurting the peoples case by printing the documents before the trial. Thought I heard that the defense already wants the case moved out of AZ.

It could be that there is an on-going investigation and the police release information at their discretion during an on-going investigation. Just a wild guess.

but that does not make it right. The Az Republic (AZ Rag as some call it), is thought by some in AZ to be pretty biased newspaper. this is my view of the paper also.

I don't know the reason. It could be they're covering their asses, it could be because of an ongoing investigation. Though the latter didn't keep the Sheriff from screaming his "opinion" about the case all over the media.

But ultimately, it will come out. As I've said all along, I will patiently wait until actual FACTS come out.

Its just too bad that the vast majority of the left in the past few days haven't chosen to do the same for the first few days; I wonder if now they'll finally decide that perhaps patience for actual facts is worth while.

ok, it's pretty clear from your post you're seeing how your narrative is flawed. please don't be afraid of it, keep going. i know how scary it can be, i've been there. you have two choices, you can ignore evidence to the contrary and keep spewing the prevailing talking points, or you can make a values based assessment of your opinions. (absolutely not saying to listen to the conservative dittoheads) if you manage to continue to stress your opinions, the ones based on values will hold up, the faulty ones that the talking heads exploit to keep you imprisoned will fall away. and you'll be left with only the truth. i am absolutely not trying to berate you, just trying to encourage you to keep going. what values do you hold dear, and where do they lead your opinions?

yes there is an ongoing investigation, one that the sheriff has put on pause a number of times in order to attack the free speech of several individuals which have no ties to the event in question.
