Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Shot In Arizona

This is a horrible tragedy and it really shows how low liberals are willing to go by trying to turn this story into an attack on conservatives.:thumbdown

It's certainly nowhere near all liberals, so I don't think that's fair at all. I think the bulk of people left and right have been reasonable about this. Even where some people immediately assumed that this must have been a tea partier, after reading more about the facts, it seems like they took a more nuanced view of things.

What exactly do we know about the political beliefs of this killer beyond what books or films he may have read or watched?

There is a report a hs and college friend said he was a very hard left liberal lunatic.

Then there is his youtube stuff, and where he shows us he's just a ****ing lunatic

Watch the videos:

Or just read this: Arizona Shooter Explained Mind Control on YouTube

I'll highlight the part I'm sure you're looking for, since it's all about which party we can blame for this:

Catie Parker claims to have been in a band with Loughner, as well as his high school and college classmate. In a Twitter exchange with Anthony De Rosa, she said that when she knew Loughner he was a radical liberal, a "loner" and "very philosophical:

"He was a political radical and met Giffords once before in '07, asked her a question and he told me she was 'stupid and unintelligent.' He was a pot head & into rock like Hendrix, The Doors, Anti-Flag.... As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy."

On topic:

Giffords awake, recognizes husband - On Congress - POLITICO.com

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is awake in her hospital room and has recognized her husband, astronaut and Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, a source close to the family told POLITICO Saturday night.

Awesome.

Let's hope that this is the end of the sad news today:

Those killed today: Christina Greene, 9, Gabe Zimmerman, 30, John Roll, 63, Dorthy Murray, 76, Dorwin Stoddard, 76, Phyllis Scheck, 79

More will come out in days to follow undoubtedly. It will be interesting to see if there were signs he would do something like this. If you remember in the case of the Vermont Tech shooter there were signs that he had schizophrenia. But we all know people who seem a little off but not enough you would contact law enforcement. Sometimes there really isn't anything you can do to prevent this. His ability to shoot 18 people that quickly was amazing.

You don't think liberals are going to run with this whole "the tea party has caused the rhetoric in this country to become too extreme" angle? They've already planted the seeds for this narrative all during the 2010 election. They've painted the tea party as extremists, and now this will be used as their proof. Unless it turns out that this guy was a left wing loon, you will be seeing attacks on Palin and FOX news for the next few weeks. It may not be ALL liberals, but a whole lot of them will gladly lap this talking point up, just wait and see.

None of these videos tell me anything solid about this mans political views. And as far as the comments from a former high school band member ... lets hope we get a bit more than that.

Happy NEWS! She still has some sight then! This is good to hear.

That is amazing. Wow. Unfortunately the other victims who died have families tonight in pure agnony.
I know it won't happen but love to see this louse dropped in the middle of the main population in one of our main prisons.

Nice of you to post your concerns over the victims

I'm sure that some will, and they should be criticized as individuals. That doesn't mean that we should be attacking all liberals - aren't you arguing that it's not fair to smear a whole group because of the action of some?

Regardless if this guy was right or left or had libertarian components of both all mixed up .... he still could have been impacted by the violent rhetoric of this past years campaign and the increasing vitriol in our political environment. Lets not sweep this under the rug. This guy should be studied like a bug under a microscope to find out exactly what made him tick.

Regardless of what "side" he's on, there is a point to be drawn: the rhetoric in this country is going overboard. Everyone needs to take a step back, and cool down before something like this happens again. This guy was an extremist, and all extremists are bad, left and right.

yes, yes, yes. Lets hope others are listening.

She went to high school and college with him and also played in a band with him. Not "high school band."

You want to know what made him tick? Conscience dreaming and grammar. Good luck making political hay out of that.

Or video games. An important lesson to be learned is that we need to do away with violent rhetoric AND video games because there's a possibility that they impact psychopaths.

This has been building for quite some time... it isn't something that just happened in the last three election cycles (2006, 2008, 2010) but hs its roots much deeper and further back than that... both sides are the blame, without a doubt... I am of the beliefe that the moderates on both sides are highly reasonable people who simply want to work together for what is best for the country. Unfortunately, it is the extremists on both side who drive the debate, and who create this vitriolic atmosphere that now exists in the body politic...

Here is a witness statement from a civilian gun owner who helped detain the criminal at the scene

If we have violent video games putting politicians in the crosshairs of a gun sight and if we have violent video games talking about second amendment remedies if they don't win at the ballot box, yes, those should be looked at for their impact. That would be Sarah Palin and Sharon Angle - not a video game that I know about.

Do you know of any? Or is that not really what you mean at all?
