Reps and judges are average citizens too and not expendable. I think I know what you are trying to say, I just don't agree.

I would add that law enforcement and military personnel that know they are or could be a target would be less sad and more heroic, though still not expendible and still tragic.

There have been some political insinuations in this thread, and I would like to address them.

If this was politically motivated, then the PERSON, not the POLITICAL affiliation should be blamed. There are nuts on both sides of the aisle. Being a Ron Paul supporter in 2008, I know this first hand. I saw nutters, KKK'ers, Neo Nazis, and others, at Ron Paul rallies, despite the fact that Ron Paul himself harshly condemned them. Democrats also have their share of nutters. I remember election day in 2001, when President Bush's car was pelted with eggs, and I also remember some protests, while Bush was in office, that turned very violent.

If this turns out to be the handiwork of a political nutter, then the last thing we should do is argue about his motivations. We would only be empowering other nutters by discussing the political aspect of this act. It would be much better to execute the scum bag, and forget about him.

So, what I am saying is that, if this is a political nutter, then let's discuss this, not from angle of "he is a so and so <insert political lean here>", but from the angle that he is a criminal who needs to have justice meted out to him. For that is what he is, no matter what political affiliation he is. This is America, and he most certainly is not American, but a man who betrayed our founding fathers. At this time, let us all, Democrat and Republican alike, come together and mourn a tragedy, and also pray for the family of Gabrielle Giffords. As for the shooter, fhugettabotit.

Seems unlikely since the reports are that he put the gun to her head.

Aye. No clue as to the weapon used, was it a .22 or something with real power? Here's hoping it was a .22 but I'm doubting it.
 
The child that was shot is now confirmed dead.

Congress Woman is not dead. Shot in the head. Optimistic that she'll live.

I would doubt that. Maybe in the mouth, Mr.V said there was a report that she was shot in the temple, so probably through the eyes if that happened.
 
The child died, they are optimistic about the congresswoman.

Absolutely. No reasonable person of any political persuasion would think this kind of action is appropriate. The guy that did this is a truly disturbed individual, and the best thing we can do is execute him and move on. It's incredibly sad that a child was killed, and hopefully the others that were shot will pull through.

Actually, a small calibur gun would do minimal damage. People survive brain penetrations all the time.
