State lawmakers taking aim at amendment granting birthright citizenship

Then work to change the Constitution through the Constitutionally ordained means...

Name one other constitutional right that is given as the result of a criminal act. None.

Actually, there are a number of liberties that our Constitution extends to individuals on our soil, whether they are here legally or not.

Just saying.

Will the insanity never cease? Are there really this many state lawmakers so ignorant of the essentialness of 14th Amendment to preventing a subclass from forming in this country?

look at which states are doing this...

True, but that is not the point. Extending liberties to individuals who live in this country is one thing. Granting a person citizenship to someone who got it through illegal means is another. There is a legal way to become a citizen. I do not mind if it is given. I just dont want it stolen.

"State lawmakers taking AIM at amendment granting birthright citizenship"

Oh my...isn't this title inciting violence?!??! Taking aim...

Shankar Vedantam should be held accountable for all the illegal alien deaths /sarcasm

The correct term is "illegal alien", and I agree with this effort compleatly.

Too bad you failed to spell "completely" correctly. Have you read the US Constitution? Or even heard of it?

I will spell completely correctly and I agree with the effort completely. Granting citizenship to individuals born here because their parents came here illegally remains an illegal act and is something you seem to ignore. Children often pay the price for illegal actions of their parents but for some reason not in this case. Illegal means illegal, what part of that do you not understand?

People acquire all sorts of rights when they're born, simply because they were born. I don't see why it should be any different with citizenship, and I don't see why we should punish newborns for actions taken by their parents.

So what I've been say about the jurisdictional part of that clause all along is correct.

I just flipped back through 9 pages of thread, and didn't see what you've been saying all along about the jurisdictional part of that clause.

Could you please reiterate your position, so that I can respond to it?
