Court OKs searches of cell phones without warrant

This ruling is terrible. There is no good reason not to get a warrant if a search is required. The cellphone isn't going to run off while talking to a judge.

They can't. And you don't have to tell them the password. That information isn't in plain view, so to further access your cell, the officer would need a search warrant.

And what if the cell phone has schematics showing exactly where the drugs in the car is? Or shows drug routes? And of course the cop is fishing. That is thier job.

their job used to be to keep the peace. but you're right, their job now is to use any force they deem necessary to keep control. that's unfortunate.

there's a reason you can't use certain levels of encryption without providing the federal government the key.

I'm sure you are correct about this. I'm just talking about the '10 chances' password on my Blackberry. Professionals could crack the SIMS card easily enough, but Police desk Sergeants might not have those skills, warrant or not.
