CHICAGO (CBS) — Cook County sheriff’s police removed the clothes of a deceased accident victim and took photographs of her nude body along the side of the road, a lawsuit claims.
Jessica C. Mejia, 20, was killed in a Dec. 31, 2009, crash near 147th Street and Justamere Road in an unincorporated area southwest of Chicago. Responding Cook County Sheriff’s police removed the dead woman’s clothing at the scene and took multiple nude photographs, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court.

Possibilities:

A) There's more to this story than meets the eye
B) Didn't happen at all
C) What the ****?

If the salary for a job is 20 grand a year, then you're going to get an employee that's worth 20 grand.

I think most cops are professional and do a good job. This story is ****ed up though. Should be easy to prove if it's true.

This horrible and I can believe it. I know a girl who went to a school where the police dept came to lecture them about safe driving... They were showing photos of actual car crashes and made some inappropriate comments about one of the victims who died. It happened to be somebody she knew and she complained to the school... totally unprofessional.

I know this is more drastic, but then again... how did the Rhianna leak out? or Nikki Catsouras?

If thats true he is one sick asshole.

Maybe in Louisiana the pay is $20K a year, but I an assure you that they are paid many thousands (many thousands) more than $20K a year.

As if what they're being paid would in any way excuse such conduct. Frankly, I don't believe it.

Why should those who are depended on the taxes of the citizens get paid more than your run of the mill private sector worker (who contributes more to society BTW). If they dont like it, they should go look for private sector work.

If this turns out to be true, then who ever did it AND anyone with them who LET them do it... should be locked in a rubber room, and the room should be thrown away.

"There were multiple independent witnesses on the scene that night and crime scene photographs taken which would have prevented the scenario described from happening. We're sorry for the family's loss."

At the least, the family's claims need to be investigated. If they are screwing with the system, then they should be held accountable.

Strong suspicion that the claims made in the lawsuit are either a gross distortion or a total fabrication. Just doesn't pass the smell test. From the time the first responders arriive until an accident scene is cleaned up the area would be active with lots of people and lots of eyes. (and that activity would be magnified notably if there were fatalities and a drunk driver...)

agreed. However, the likelyhood that it did not or could not have happened should not negate the need for the initial investigation.

Youre wrong. Thats not how it works unless you think real life is just like TV. They lock things down even MORE to have a controlled environment.

Not to say that Cole is correct, because we really don't have any idea what went on, but in the interest of playing Devil's Advocate, I've been a looky-lou at multiple severe auto accident/fatality scenes and I'm not a first responder or in law enforcement. In each case, I just happened to be driving by and my morbid curiosity got the better of me.

I think a police officer contributes more to society than the shift manager at McDonald's.
Also, see what happens to the air traffic control system when you start offering 30k/year.

Uuhhhh, you need to elaborate on exactly where I am wrong. Believe I said the same thing you just did. First responders, then additional police to secure area, investigators due to the fatality, maybe the coroners office. Lots of people and lots of eyes. Not real likely anybody is going to be stripping a corpse and posing it for pictures.

I really hope something is done about this officer and he can't work in the field again... this such a disgusting and perverted thing to do. Who wants to look at corpses like that, AND take photographs... He is definitely in the wrong field of profession..

I dont see police officers telling non-English speaking people what to do......... oh..... wait.

Did they say anything about POSTING them? Why do you doubt these people would do this? Or are you doubting they COULD do this?

Glad to know you've determined guilt already in this case. Might I ask where you got your complete information from?

You're losing me. Nobody mentioned posting of pictures. From your link it does note that the suit claims the body was posed in different positions, which I referenced. Which I would suspect is either a distortion or a fabrication of what actually happened.

Lawsuits against Cook County are common. They pay out millions a year. A novel/outlandish one like this may have good chance of quick settlement just to stop it from ending up in a courtroom. Chicago juries tend to give out bountiful awards....

You didnt read the whole thread DID you? Now although Im 99% positive they did what is said they MIGHT have done it for legit reasons..... but I very highly doubt that.

There are MANY more legit resons why Cook County should be sued. The coruption and abuse they dish out to the public (and certain corporations) is astronomical. And I have 0.0005% doubt that the cops did this. People dont realize the **** cops in Chicago get away with. In some cases they are as dirty as the crimials.

You are right... I don't know what happened, but assuming it's true and this officer disrobed a corpse and took nude photos is disgusting, and the only motive I can think of is some type of perversion.

Yup. :( It sickens me. Not only should they be fired... they should be in prison or at least have a misdemeanor on their record. Its a horrible thing man. And Im tired of seeing the corruption in Cook Country. Its at minimum a weekly event. But this is a new one.
