Republicans plan sweeping rules changes in new Congress

Ok... so now the liberal weenies are interested only in creating jobs, eh? Where's that been for the last few years?

Actually its been front and center and you know darn well it has.

No such thing as a shovel ready job, Snil. Obama said so (after swearing up and down that there were).

When it comes to the subject of economic stimulus - there has been no shortage of shovels being used in DC. :) They have used them well piling it high and deep

Didn't you hear? The first stimulus just wasn't big enough.

It seems to me your anger would be better if it were focused at the party that has set a record for filibusters, much of it against bills that they introduced themselves.

America may be polarized, but step over the line and you will see that we are not paralyzed....

Besides all this, to prevail at such a claim, you'd have to prove actual damages.

Actually, the bottom line is that you have to care what some random person online says about you in some little debate...

And it's not even you, it's your screen name.

Exactly... I would say that many people are pretty much themselves online, but far too many people get much more in-your-face and aggressive since they are not actually facing anybody face to face. Everybody is an expert, blah blah blah

I also found that there is a new rule that states:
Budget Committee Chairman-to-be Paul Ryan (R-WI) will have new powers under the package to dictate spending priorities and restrictions for the federal budget. In case the House and Senate fail to reach agreement on a budget resolution, the congressman will then be able to ban any revisions to his guidelines.

Thats a nice new power to have.

Where did you 'find' this? Got a link to the actual text of the rule that give Ryan this power?

Nevermind... look here...

Is this what they are whining about?

http://rules-republicans.house.gov/M...es5-CP_xml.pdf
CLARIFYING THE ROLE OF THE CHAIR OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE BUDGET.—In rule XXIX,
add the following new clause:
Authoritative guidance from the Committee on the Budget concerning the impact of a legislative proposition on the levels of new budget authority, outlays, direct spending, new entitlement authority and revenues may be provided by the chair of the committee.’’

I read the proposed rules (linked above). There is not a damned thing in there that gives Ryan unlimited authority to do whatever he wants monetarily.

This is a big scare tactic, started by the democrats and liberals. It's pure horse****... but then again... they have nothing else to offer.

If you want to debate lets debate. If you want to throw insults go back to highschool and pick on kids smaller than you.

That's right... ignore the rest of the post and focus in on that. After all, why bother discussing the meat of my post, when you can whine about one small part, right? Much easier for you to whine.

Now, would you care to use the link to the actual text of the bill, which I provided, to prove your point? Or, would you prefer to continue to whine that the big bad Whovian said something mean to you....

(Oh, and I find it highly amusing that you complain about a percieved insult, by insulting)

Most of the time, debating one who is quick to insult is a waste of time, since those people are generally unable or unwilling to be honest, to compromise or to admit being incorrect.

I know. I've seen people on boths sides in here and on other forums whine like little girls that $25 million here, or $47 million there... or even a few billion... doesn't matter, considering the size of the financial hole we are in. My contention has always been that you cut when ever and where ever you can, and it will all add up.

I agree... and liken it to the broken windows theory of law enforcement.

The rule changes I want to see are as follows.

1. Term limits of 12 years for both Houses.

2. Benefit packages equal to but not to exceed those of an Army Pfc.

3. All pay in Both houses to be equal to but not exceed that of an Army Major, the President would receive the pay of a 4 Star General.

4. SSI to be turned over to or sold to private industry with strict rules that include all members of both houses.

5. All gifts from lobbyists that exceed lunch cost are banned.

6. Congress should meet no more than 2, 3 month periods, Jan. thru Mar. and then July thru Sept. Unless there is an emergency.

7. No bill should contain more then 20 pages be written in plain English and no attachments are permitted.

8. At any time a petition containing 1,000,000 signatures can force a no confidence vote of any elected official and force them from office, for any reason.

It's not perfect but it might be a starting point to save money.

I think they should have their medical insurance scheme dropped and have to buy it on the free market. I'm tired of hearing it used as a political issue.

Article 1 section 5
"...Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member. "

I would say in theory the Constitution would allow for such a rule.

Seems to me this is similar to the old Pay-Go rule

Didn't you hear? The first stimulus just wasn't big enough.

There's a great Far Side toon that is fitting in these times of Obamanomics... the punch line was... Hey Stim-U-Late!

And Stim is gonna be later and later... he'll show up, most likely when the economic illiterate Obama is sent to pasture.
