Endgame: DADT cloture vote passes, 63-33; Update: Obama cheers « Hot Air

The vote on the bill itself will come at 3 p.m., but that’s a formality. The roll: Six Republicans — Brown, Collins, Kirk(!), Murkowski, Snowe, and Voinovich — joined 57 Democrats to push it through.

DADT is soon to be dead. Chalk one up for the good guys!....for America and American values. America has sent a message today to the bigots of this country that they will not be tolerated.

Its all a procedural matter at this point. Ending the Republican filibuster ensured that the vote to end DADT will pass.
Congress acknowledged that it doesn't matter WHO you love in this country....as long as you love your country. A victory for freedom and justice loving Americans.

This final vote is taking forever....

Sounds like a lot more "Ayes" than "Nos" though.

From Sen. Levin's comments on DADT today:

I am here because of Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, the first ground-unit casualty of the war in Iraq. The first casualty in the war in Iraq was a gay soldier. The mine that took off his right leg didn’t give a darn whether he was gay or straight. We shouldn’t either.

Excellent quote.

Edit: Where the hell is NP, you'd think he would have mentioned something about the world coming to an end by now...

So let me get this absolutely straight, its over? The president will sign it out of law? Gays can serve openly?

Two questions; Now do any of the people that got the boot because they told get the option of going back into the military?

Question number two…Who was that old dude in the Ancient Navy attire, that jumped off of the University Bridge in Seattle right after the vote?

It passed the Senate vote. It will go to the President's desk and he will sign it. Then it has to be signed by the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Then the military has 60 days to make preparations to implement repeal.

They can re-enlist after the 60 days are up.

A guy who clearly is no psychic.

I believe it will depend on the re-enlistment code they received when they got their discharge and the type of discharge received. Most DADT discharges where honorable discharges, and I think those would be able to re-enlist. Best website to watch for those type details: Servicemembers Legal Defense Network

Don't be picking on NP too hard, he really is a great guy.
