DADT cloture passes

By making this a leftist triumph you make it difficult for conservatives who have supported full civil rights for lgbt people. We feel like uselful idiots who have played into the hands of the left.

It shouldn't be a victory for anybody, left or right. It should be a gay victory... if it (DODT) were actually worth the trouble of repealing.

That's a little whiney. If you really supported it, it shouldn't matter what side considers it a triumph.

Actually, it should be treated as a victory for all Americans. The smart move for lgbt folks is to love their opponents to death. Kill them with kindness. Completely disarm them.

I don't feel victorious over anything. Then again, I never considered myself much of an American.

I have betrayed my coalition mates to support full civil rights for lgbt people. Having stuck my neck out I will have no nonsense about whining.

The eight Rep votes were… Collins, Snowe, Brown, Murkowski, Voinovich, Kirk, Ensign and Burr. :2wave:

Moderate conservatives. How I love thee.

I bet those 8 people are going to be really busy the next 2 years. If anything is going to pass it is going to need the support of at least half of them.

 I'm just saying. If there was something I really cared about, I wouldn't care which party passed it.

Oh come on. This may be the best time in history to be a moderate conservative.

It's a victory for everyone who isn't a bigot, just as the other civil rights victories have been. Folks who refuse to do the right thing simply because someone they don't like might benefit from it reveal themselves to be of questionable character. If people on the right had made the repeal of DADT a part of their platform, as they should have, then Obama would not be able to claim this as a victory, it would simply be part of the job.

I'm not a moderate conservative. I'm a radical conservative. Sometimes it's not easy to tell whether I'm on the left or the right. I represent a new way of thinking about the role of govt., and America's role in the world.

Support for lgbt rights is growing within conservative ranks because of people like me. And it is because of people like me that lgbt rights will be accepted by all sides in this country.

Edit: On second thought, you can call me an Obama Conservative. Obama is the father of radical conservatism.

Okay. Many groups are working to make LGBT rights a nonpartisan issue. GOProud, the Log Cabin Republicans, etc.

He was one of the first people I thought of when I learned it was repealed.. I also thought of my friend in CA, because he got married when it was legal. I hope marriage is reinstated there soon.. I have trying to follow it through the courts, and I think it's heading to the supreme..

Dan is so happy. He has been fighting hard for this since being kicked out..

Thanks for fighting hard Dan Choi.

"Radical Conservative"??? Please explain this. It looks like an oxymoron. In my experience "Conservative" is synonymous with "reactionary". I would be very pleased to discover some new approach to understanding that I wasn't aware of.

The gay marriage thing is going to be fascinating in the military now. Will gay couples married in Vermont qualify for spousal benefits? It'll cause problems with a gay couple in Texas. Perhaps it'll will be the driving course for gay marriage a couple years from now.

I am watching Fox, but they aren't talking about it.. haha..
