No, it was never a requirement. They do it because Muhammad did it once and some consider it Sunnah. It has never been obligatory to kiss the stone.

If you're going to be obtuse and disingenuous, then you're obviously not interested in any form of constructive discussion.

Look at what lengths you'll go to avoid realizing the obvious. You were wrong when you stated Muslims were required to kiss the black stone. Get over it.

and you can't admit that the whole thing is arbitrary based solely on dates that Muhammad pulled out of his ass. the only reason the dates are relevent is because Muhammad decided at random that those should be the dates. unless you can point me to any proof where Allah came down and told Muhammad "thou shalt hajj on ...."

It's not like that's unique to Islam. Christianity usurped pagan days of celebration to encourage others to convert. It's pretty arbitrary in that it's not based on anything theological. Easter doesn't line up with Christ's execution, Christmas doesn't line up with Christ's birth, etc. And the bible itself is a collection of random and arbitrary books pieced together by the Church. I don't know why one can attack the arbitrary nature of one religion without recognizing the arbitrary nature of other established religions

With that sentiment, Christmas Day can be changed to another day. Same with Easter. Hanukkah can be moved to a different eight days.

What you are asserting should happen (her doing Hajj on a different date) is impossible and ridiculous.

Either way, you are still failing to admit (quite pathetic) that you were wrong in your initial statement. This is something that you kept bringing up for 10+ pages, and even when thoroughly refuted, you look for some tangent to rebound your asinine argument off.

dude, I celebrated christmas 09 this June 10. "they" are the ones making such a big freaking deal out of it. and it really doesn't matter because this lady had other options available to her where she still could've gone during the "required" timeframe. she chose not to use them in order to make a statement...IMHO

And she quit, which is her right. And this case will most likely get hucked out right quickly too. I don't see the problem. When you have an open court system you'll get fools suing over this and that. I mean, someone is suing McDonald's because of toys in the Happy Meal. Is it absurd? Of course. A waste of time? Definitely. A waste of money? Most certainly. But people are free to do so. She wanted to take the time, it was denied twice, she quit. Right there is the proper response if you somehow put your religious convictions above your financial well being. Suing...ok a bit overboard. But this **** happens all the time and it will be the same as any other pointless, useless lawsuit.

And after being told repeatedly that it is impossible for anyone to do Hajj at a different time, you went on a complete tanget saying they changed some of the requirements for Hajj. After being thoroughly refuted about those "non-obligatory requirements", you still fail to see why you are wrong.

You didn't really celebrate Christmas. Your celebrated some weird Oscar gift giving session and called it Christmas. Everyone else celebrated Christmas on the day it actually took place on. You essentially came a few months late to a rally it decided your rally was the same as the one held months before. However, the only one there was you. Not exactly a rally.

No you don't, because only someone who cares about animals would hope that, and you're not one of them. By your own admission, you're not an amatuer at killing animals. Well, does this mean you work in a slaughterhouse, or that you just kill them for fun, and are really good at it ?

Whichever is the case, I'd find it hard to believe that killing animals would not be just as illegal in London as it is here in the USA. As for your non-caring attitude, that's one of the fundamental aspects of the criminal mind. And as for you animals out there, get those teeth sharpened up. And sharpen up those horns and hooves, you got some barbaric, uncivilized, animal-killing savages to go to work on. Do it ! Bwa ha ha ha (Burt Reynolds laugh).

when I taught, we accrued 9 personal days per school year. there was no limit to the number of days you could store. why the hell didn't she just save up her vacation days for a couple of years and then take paid vacation for 3 weeks? there would've been nothing they could've done to stop her. they can't deny you vacation you have earned.

there are too many options that were available to her. she is either stupid or she was looking to make a statement.

I understand she had been a teacher for only 9 months which would earn her no vacation days and she would be coming back just in time for the winter break.

It is a big hassle to hire a sub and get any teaching done in the class.

Her kids would have been at least 1 month behind other classes.

what would happen to you at any job if after being there for 9 months you asked to be absent from your duties for 3 weeks unpaid.

As an employeer I would consider you a flake and replace you.

Why didn't she do this pilgrimage the year before she got hired so it did not interfere with her duties to her students?

Remember usually in December the students are preparing for the end of the semester and a final, so if she wasn't there, her students would fall behind.

she would have a much stronger case if she had tried to use her leave and been denied rather than asking for unpaid leave.

both my parents taught for 30 years and my father was a HS principal for 15. I taught for 11 years and my brother has taught for 23.

I think I might just know a bit about how the system works. :shrug:

Hajj generally happens at the end of the calendar year. This year's Hajj was in the middle of November (IIRC). I dont know when she requested her time off.

The date for Christmas is aligned with other theologically important days and how do you know Easter doesn't line up with Christ's execution? BTW, Easter is roughly aligned with Passover; Easter being the Chrisitan equivalent of that holiday...
