Obama to sign Child Nutrition Bill today

Yet, we all know families who "can't afford health insurance" who have new cars, cable TV, internet, games, multiple cell phones, etc...
Maybe if we feed their kids, they will buy insurance?

We also know business making huge profits who take government bailouts, tax breaks, and government money for all kinds of things they don't really do.

But, we have more problem helping the lower end than the upper end for reasons that escape me. If a kid needs a meal, I have no problem providing it any way I can, including with my tax dollar. If the school is goign to use our tax dollars to feed children, I have no problem saying they should provide nutricious food, and don't see that as too controversial. If you also want to admonish parents, feel free. If you want something that holds parents accountable, also OK.

Agree about business, but that is another topic in another thread...I don't know of any businesses getting subsidized lunches, altho the businesses providing the food to the schools are getting paid with tax dollars.
If any of the many programs we have today existed in the 60's, we knew nothing about it. But, realistically, I don't know if we are creating more slackers today than we were back then, judging from just my family.

Because you're not paying attention to what she's saying. It's a stupid proposition.

But she thinks it's constitutional. Doesn't that scare you in the least? Cripe, she couldn't say that forcing people to eat vegetables was unconstitutional?

Can someone think of a funny sig line for me concerning my paranoia of socialism/communism/marxism/black helicopters/food police/green police and anything else you notice I'm afraid of?

I think they get the equivilent of free lunches, given money for many friviolous reasons.

And yes, that is another thread if we're to speak about those specifics.

There were some programs in the 60's. I remember getting beans and free cheese. Actually developed a taste for both. And even with food stamps and welfare, I often ate better at school. My mother was no slacker. She worked even then, and every day until the day she died, calling in sick to work only to go to the hosptial and die. So, we didn't create a slacker by helping her. Too often we stereotype and ignore the real people who are actually helped. Sure, we can find people who abuse anything and everything. but we do help real people with many of these programs.

Oh lawd... feeding kids vegetables! Oh the statism! Oh the statism! I wish people knew what that word meant.

More jealousy Joe? Really now, if you are unhappy with your lot in life maybe you should change it, instead of constantly bitching about others success.

More class warfare.

then donate your dollars, but you don't have the right to tell me what to do with mine.

On this point I do agree, however, when the school starts serving dinner, and telling kids what their home prepared lunches must contain, or can not contain, then the line is crossed.

If you also want to admonish parents, feel free. If you want something that holds parents accountable, also OK.

Admonish? Hold me accountable? Let me tell you encroaching little liberals something. It's none of your damned business what I feed my kid, as long as he/she is healthy, and well fed then you all can go fly a kite as far as I am concerned, and mind your own business at that point. Are we clear?

Not exactly what she said. Like the congressman questioning her, you're look for a decalration and not a discussion of actual law. She recognized this and called it a silly law. She wanted to move to something more substancial, but that wasn't what the congressman wanted. I suspect few who use this do either.

They'll remember if we hold them accountable. But it would also help if we were a little more coherent. I was tlaking with a conservative the other day, for example, who wants all the benefits of the new health care bill, but none of the options for paying for them. What can a leader do with that message?

A conservative wouldn't want benefits unless they were paying for them.

I know exactly what it means, and how you love it so.

Nope, just your silly misreading again.

More class warfare.

Nope. That is actually what you're doing and not myself.

then donate your dollars, but you don't have the right to tell me what to do with mine.

I do. And you have elected officials just as do. You are represented. it's called taxation with representation.

There is not enough doing this to warant your concern. There is few no real effort to tell students what they can bring in lunch bags.

Yes, if you take welfare and food stamps and don't feed your children with them, I think we should hold you accountable. I know that is harsh for a conservative, but that's how I roll. :coffeepap

That's not quite true. Many conservatives in business for example take many a tax dollar and do very little with them. And many call themselves conservative do take advantage of many government programs. This is just a fact.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Legislation to feed more lunches and dinners to hungry children at school is about to become law.
President Barack Obama will be accompanied by his wife, Michelle, as he signs the bill. The ceremony is scheduled to take place Monday at a District of Columbia elementary school.
The $4.5 billion bill would expand free school meals for the low-income students and give the government the power to make them healthier. The government will decide what kinds of foods may be sold in vending machines, lunch lines and fundraisers during school hours.
Supporters say the law is needed to stem rising health care costs because of growing childhood obesity and also to feed more hungry children in tough economic times. Some Republicans contend the measure is too expensive and an example of government overreach.

I guess the Republicans failed to stop it.
No more fundraising from bake sales. Is big government going to also pay for things that the bakesales usually pay for? Or should they switch to apple and spinach sales?

Yes because having kids eat **** every day is a GOOD idea?
You Conserva-haters are always hating if its not YOUR party passing the legislation. Bunch o' whiners and finger-pointers you are. At LEAST some Republicans can see the logic feeding our kids health food.

And if the kids dont like it they can ****ing STARVE! Damn brats

What I mean by "slackers" is people who are able but unwilling to work, earn a living, etc. The truly unable needy should be at the head of the line, the rest should stay home. One of my neighbors gave me some of the free commodities they went for.
Driving a brand new Toyota Avalon, had high dollar motor home in the back yard, a nice paid for home, and looking for free food. They actually qualified, as their income was low. They were taking food away from the truly needy.

I'm glad all those kids aren't going to starve to death, now. That's a relief.

You said it pal!

I for one, am sick and tired of having to step over all the bodies of those starved to death children that litter the inner cities in America. It makes it difficult for me to enjoy my morning latte'... Then there's the stench... don't get me started.

BINGO!!!! Give the man a prize! That is correct sir. I just cant believe the UTTER ignorance of many conservatives. I have found in my life that conservatives get some Socialstic gov't assistance than the Demo-rats do!!!!
BUT....... because of the BS conservative propaganda of lies and half-truths that is constantly bombarding them they actually THINK they are in some way better than Democrats! (which then in turn makes them worse)

Conservatives WAKE UP! Youre worse at taking and spending money than anyone else!

As i said, there will always be some who do that at every income level. Taking advantage of a program of any kind, at any level is all too common. But we don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

Latte' ? Sounds like a liberal drink to me....:2razz:

Here's the kind of government the left supports...

"We Can't Just Leave It Up To The Parents"

RealClearPolitics - Video - Michelle Obama On Fat Children: "We Can't Just Leave It Up To The Parents"

Even if this was in context and reflected what she is actually saying, this would be her opinion and not the left. Keep in mind that people see things differently no matter which way the lean.

Listen to the entire thing. She does call this the responsibility of parents. and then talks about how much they get from school meals, a fact, and does not advocate taking that responsibility away.

Thats DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!! it makes me MAD!!!!!!!!! :badpc:
Left out the truly disgusting part, the peanut butter was from INDIA...So we don't have american peanut farmers anymore? It didn't look appetizing, or taste good. I threw it out.

Oooo, I can play that game too! Here's the kind of parenting that conservatives believe should be protected:

BBC News | HEALTH | Overweight toddler taken into custody

Oh, so these people were conservatives? And because of that what, they fed their daughter crap until she weighed what she does? You know that's pretty insulting of you.

Maybe you didn't read your own article......

"Anamarie's weight problem is not new: she has been taken into hospital repeatedly since she was a few months old because of it.

Anamarie has now been removed from her parents care
But doctors have not been able to determine the cause."

Maybe you can remember that the next time you have some weak ass snarky comment to add nothing but crap to a thread!

I don't see how her parents political leaning has any bearing. And really? The cause is over-eating, it's simple physics. You cannot gain weight unless you consume more calories then you burn. I'm sure if there had been a legitimate medical reason, the child wouldn't have been taken away. Although your willingness to come to their defense is very telling of just how far you think parent's rights should extend.

It added plenty to the discussion. If you're too hot under the collar to see the similarity between what I did and the comment you liked, that's not my problem.

You see what I mean UtahBill?
