Re: MasterCard site is down, twitter, paypal, foxnews.com is next in hacker attacks.

I hope these hackers get caught and are put in jail along with Assange. They have to right to attack websites that are "enemies" of Assange. Assange is a thief and a thug. I truly believe he is a danger to humanity with his abuse of "transparency." These hackers have no right to do what they are doing. They are harming private businesses because they don't support Assange.

FoxNews.com - Hackers Target WikiLeaks 'Enemies': Mastercard, Twitter, Paypal, Even FoxNews.com

The more I read the more I am on Wikileaks side. It is pretty damn obvious the guy was setup for the rape charge now. It is also pretty damn obvious these are things we the American people needed to know. I wish these hackers luck and hope they bring these sites to their knees.

Wow!!! You support illegal activity and cyber terrorists... What is wrong with what Master Card and Visa did? They were merely enforcing the terms of use that is in their contract with their merchants. PayPal did the same... These hackers are little more than cyberterrorists engaging in illegal activity...

Re: MasterCard site is down, twitter, paypal, foxnews.com is next in hacker attacks.

What the hackers are doing is illegal and from a legal standpoint has no connection with Wikileaks. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I do not support vigilantism.

here's a recap of events.

Assange and wikileaks post hundreds of thousands of cables from members of the US government to foreign diplomats.

The US gov't tells amazon to stop hosting the wikileaks website. they comply.

hours later wikileaks is up on a european server.

according to the bbc, they are currently running on 14 servers in 14 different countries.
BBC News - Wikileaks' struggle to stay online

Wikileaks has effectively weaved itself a complex web of suppliers and it seems even the domain name companies are confused. -BBC

The US government, unable to shut them down, commenced cyber attacks. They basically tried (are trying) to overload the site, through attacks that repeatedly make a connection to the site, in effect making it so hundreds of thousands of people connect to the site at the same time.

i've been to the site. the attacks are being handled smoothly by wikileaks.

Paypal withholds 60,000 pounds from assange, wikileaks founder. Mastercard and Visa stop making payments to wikileaks. His swiss bank stops action on his account.

The people take action. Knows as "operation payback", the internet community acts.

Paypal, mastercard, Visa, Assang's bank, are all hit with cyber counter attacks. Visa.com, supposedly secure, goes down. As does mastercard. as does paypal.

Paypal releases Assange's funds.

Wikileaks goes global. last i checked there were 1334 mirror sites for wikileaks. found here WikiLeaks - Mirrors of our website

The information they present can now be downloaded via bit torrent http://213.251.145.96.

Its a cyber war. and the US government is losing.

Last I checked our own elected officials can and have done us far more harm than a guy that has more integrity in his right pinky finger than the entire US media. While not even nearly as large in scale, when I was operating an editorial site I was subjected to many cease and desist as well as calls from lawyers for giving out "trade secrets" which I was unaware were even seen as such.

These attacks show just how fragile the internet truly is and thus far should be seen as a message from people who want the truth, not to **** with people that want it.

It looks like the fat and skinny war craft and dungeon and dragons nerds who live in their mother's basement are having their revenge. Hopefully the authorities catch them.

Ha ha ha. Such a boneheaded thing to say. That's like saying "Godddamnit I hate doctors for being smart!" or "The guy that made Facebook took time out of watching Star Trek to becoming a billionare because he is far smarter than I could ever hope to ever be!"

Authorities won't catch anybody that overloads a server. Overloading a server isn't even a crime. That would be like one of the forum members here coming here when the bandwidth limit for DP was reached, whomever crapped the site out by using the bandwidth to load the site gets their IP searched, and then the owner of DP calls up their ISP to get the person that did it in trouble. The ISP would laugh at him until he hung up the phone.

So on one hand, you think wikileaks is "journalism" site, so you must also think it is OK for journalists to hack into private businesses websites?

How you can twist that into a reasonable position is beyond me.

Re: Hackers Target WikiLeaks 'Enemies': Mastercard, Twitter, Paypal, Even FoxNews(edi

I know you're not speaking to me, but Wikileaks didn't hack anything. Someone else handed them the files, just like whistleblowers might hand them to journalists. I do not think Wikileaks is journalism, but I think they are an important step in this particular set of circumstances. WL has had journalists at numerous publications do the actual journalism, ... well unless and until he's goaded into releasing the poison pill.

The information Wikileaks released were from documents that do not belong to them and weren't given to them by someone who had authority to do so.

They are common thugs. Nothing more.

Whistleblowers rarely have the authority to do so. You can't be that dense, are you?

You can't be supporting this cast of socially misfitted thugs, can you?

These are classified documents that released can put a great many people in danger and strain international relations in a way dangerous to to all.

You've seen a few too many Julia Roberts movies, I suspect.

Re: MasterCard site is down, twitter, paypal, foxnews.com is next in hacker attacks.

The conspiracy forum is this way.

There appear to be reports circulating that Wiki did experience several DDoS attacks prior to the release of the cables, and that subsequent attacks (originating in China) have also occurred.

I don't support vigilanteism. Anonymous needs to stand down, but unfortunately, from what I know about them, that's highly unlikely.

I can understand many Americans cheering them, though. We do love our Robin Hoods.

I think some see the attacks on Wikileaks by our government and their hired hackers as justification for these other hackers. You can't really expect an entity that has not done anything illegal, hasn't been charged with any illegal to not be defended and subsequently offended by the same tactics. Well, I can't.

No, but you've got that Che shirt in your weekly rotation, too.

As Catz said, Robin Hood is always popular among the n'er do wells. (well, I added the last part, lol)

Wrong. Robin Hood is popular with everyone except Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham.

But I can see the resemblance, Erod. ;) Wasn't that the Sheriff's first name?

p.s. Let me be brutally honest here...I was cheering anonymous when they went after Scientology. If you weren't, it's because you weren't paying attention.

Re: Hackers Target WikiLeaks 'Enemies': Mastercard, Twitter, Paypal, Even FoxNews(edi

I support the freedom of the press, just like I support the freedom of private corporations to run their business and lend their support as they choose, within the scope of the law. If the sites these vigilantes are targetting have done anything legally wrong, then let the law address that. Malicious and likely illegal attacks on those sites makes the Anonymous crusaders no better than the people who are trying to silence Wikileaks.

So do you think it is okay that the US government interfered with Wikileaks who've been charged with nothing at this time, trying to shut them down, even when they moved the site out of US jurisdiction?
