Republicans block child nutrition bill

lol that's why parents are feeding their kids ramen and fruit roll ups then right?

If parents are feeding Top Ramen, fruit roll ups, cotton candy, sugared cereal, hot dogs, hamburgers (Obama eats a lot of hamburgers and beer), sodas etc.etc. is because parents are either stupid OR they just don't give a damn about their kids health. Why should I pay for the irresponsibility and stupidity of their parents??? unless... I am an idiot. :coffeepap

the reason you should help the kids of ignorant parents learn about and exercise proper nutrition is that they will likely achieve better academically and live more healthy lives. that translates into more responsible, contributing members of society rather than those who become a net expense to society

Again... this is not the stone age we live in, there's ALL kinds of info. out there: TV, magazines, etc.etc. perhaps we should ban alcohol and drugs because perhaps parents are to busy doing and spending money on drugs instead of being responsible for their kids or they are plain stupid.
AND the government should ban everything that is bad for us, PERIOD!! now.. that's the answer! :coffeepap

Society has a major stake in the relative health of its children; the costs of obesity and malnutrition are significant and avoidable.

Society has a major stake in the relative health of its children... NOT THE GOVERNMENT. This has been my solid and resolute point.

So really the only answer I have been getting and EVEN FROM A TEACHER (shame on you) is **** THEM THAT'S WHY!

Okay, let's have you answer some questions.

1. When teachers teach the importance of healthy eating including making it FUN to eat vegetables, but there are 3 kids in the class that still eat McDonald's for supper every night.....what is your proposal?

2. Let's say the school lunches are completely healthy with lots of fruits and vegetables. You're a teacher who is on lunch duty. Many children are only eating the fruit on their tray because they don't like anything else. What do you do?

3. You see a family at a restaurant and the kids are eating fried french fries, fried chicken nuggets and a sugar-filled soda. What should be done?

Government is an agent of society and it is completely reasonable that government power be used to combat juvenile obesity and malnutrition.

I am sorry if I have been disrespectful towards you. I am very sorry about my condensending tone previously. I understand that most children are little assholes in training and you have one of the toughest jobs in the world. I appreciate what you are doing to the fullest. Seriously, after posting what I posted I felt bad about it. I was just trying to use the "incredibly condenscending and total disregard for others" tone that a few of the people on this forum use and I used it unrightfully on you. I have a few friends that are teachers and you guys get more **** than most of the truly important professions out of any profession out there.

Anyways, to answer your three points:

1. Scare the **** out of them. Show what their teeth will look like if they eat candy all the time compared to eating vegetables. Maybe show Arnold S. and how big and strong he is? I dunno. I know it is very hard. The government in it's own little way is trying to help this problem. I think probably because I am about to have a child myself I am extra sensitive to this issue, as well as several issues that have to do with education.

2. As a child I was always told to clear my plate, "kids in Africa don't have what you have", etc. This is a unique challenge. Perhaps tell them the boogie man will get them if they don't. Stuff like that always scared THE **** OUT OF ME when I was a kid but I don't think you can legally do that. lol

3. Another interesting challenge. I personally grew up on drinking coke (not good), love Coca-Cola now, don't mind any of the things you just mentioned, but my grandfather would set me down and just have me eat all kinds of crazy things raw; asparagus, okra, boiled peanuts (a fav snack of us southeners), carrots, green peppers, etc. I am not sure. I think a company if nothing else the government needs to show the benefits of eating healthier to the parents as typically despite what most people think, eating healthy either cost just a little more or not much at all. I had the benefit of growing up around great farmers markets and being raised by farmers that raised chickens so I constantly ate chicken. It is like an addiction that I will never get rid of is eating chicken. I think maybe just as a grandson of a Republican chicken farmer, we could help all kinds of people out and feed more chicken to kids because seriously who the hell hates chicken?

Once again, I am sorry and I feel sincerely bad for implying you aren't doing your job.

Government is an agent of society and it is completely reasonable that government power be used to combat juvenile obesity and malnutrition.

Government should also ban everything that is bad for EVERYBODY and problem solved!!!! If the government was so interested in the health of kids, they should be interested against abortion. More human beings are killed from abortions than dying from eating unhealthy foods.

but once the kids are born should we not want to do whatever we can to aid their development ... including teaching them good nutrition habits where those habits are not being taught at home

I couldn't agree more on both. Are you saying we should abe able to abort babies no matter what, baby killer?

Again.. it would NOT COST ANYTHING by making parents responsible for teaching their kids about good nutrition habits. The parents have more immediate and closer contact than the government. Government has bigger fish to fry than being concerned with the parents responsibilities.

So how do you propose that ignornant parents gain this knowledge?

If the government was so interested in the health of kids, they should be interested AGAINST abortion.
Please take your time reading my statements. Liberals are baby killers since thye support abortion. Thank God I am NOT a Liberal.

Living breathing humans, are NOT the same as a fetus.

Recommending them to educate themselves about good nutrition for thier kids sake and if they don't then it's tough sh*t.

We can't make some idiots do what's best for them. It's the parents problem and not mine nor the government's.

I don't see them as a**holes in training, but as good citizens of America in training. Nor do I believe my job is one of the toughest in the world. Some days are tough, but mostly is pretty easy and fun. But thank you for apologizing. That shows character. :)

Congratulations! Now...what if those things don't work? What if kids continue to eat McDonald's every single night?

2. As a child I was always told to clear my plate, "kids in Africa don't have what you have", etc. This is a unique challenge. Perhaps tell them the boogie man will get them if they don't. So your answer is that you have no answer?

So you're only suggestion is that the government show the benefits of eating healthier. But what if that STILL doesn't work? (And it hasn't.)

Once again, I am sorry and I feel sincerely bad for implying you aren't doing your job.

Thank you very much. No hard feelings. :)

You bet, and conservatives just can't stand the concept of feeding hungry kids. You're right.

This is what your party does. It creates a monstrosity of a bill, then wraps in pretty paper that says "feed the children" or "health for everyone", and then it claims all Republicans want is for poor people to starve and die.

We all want kids to eat, bud. But does it take a $4.5 billion bill with 17 earmark pet projects to do so?

children are the last refuge of the socialists

You got that right ;)

AUSTIN, Tex. — After facing months of protest, conservative members of the Texas Board of Education were expected Thursday night to vote to teach schoolchildren a version of American history that emphasizes the roles of capitalist enterprise, the military, Christianity and modern Republican political figures.

The scheduled vote was a preliminary tally, with the final vote by the same group planned for Friday.

The decision, expected to fall largely along the party lines — the board has 10 Republicans and 5 Democrats — followed tens of thousands of public comments, a protest rally and a daylong hearing where about 200 speakers addressed the board.

By sheer force of its population size, Texas has long held outsize influence on national textbook publishers, some of whom sent curriculum writers to take notes in the boardroom.

If the government was so interested in the kids health, THEY should be interested AGAINST abortion.
Please take your time reading my statements. Liberals are baby killers since they support abortion. Thank God I am not a Liberal.
