CBC News - World - Interpol issues warrant for WikiLeaks founder

Interpol has placed the Australian-born founder of WikiLeaks on its most-wanted list after Sweden issued an arrest warrant against him as part of a drawn-out rape investigation.

The France-based international police organization has issued a "red notice" for 39-year-old Julian Assange — the equivalent of putting him on its most-wanted list.

I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but the most wanted list? That seems a little too convenient.

He trolled the world.

The Wikileaks sucks. I was expecting better. US is boring

The US Diplomat didn't even give us the name of the Labour Minister who was a perv to females pfft

lol I know huh. as far as intra-office emails go, it all seems very tame.

I'm at the point where there is almost nothing too bad for this guy. I think waterboarding would be a good start. I think this guy fancies himself a "bin Laden" type.

What's he done that's that bad?

Releasing information. I bet you if it had been information which would damage the Obama administration's rep., the American would be singing a much different tune.

Really, he's calling for Hillary to resign. Maniacal partisanship rots your brain.

Lawyer: Assange is being persecuted in Sweden - Yahoo! News

LONDON – The lawyer for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange charged Wednesday that his client is being persecuted by Swedish authorities whose accusations of sex crimes have prompted an Interpol alert for his arrest.
Swedish officials say they issued the international alert because the 39-year-old Australian has not made himself available for a meeting with prosecutors. Assange's lawyer, Mark Stephens, said that Swedish officials have turned down repeated offers to speak to Assange.
Assange's secret-spilling group has leaked a series of confidential U.S. intelligence and diplomatic reports this year, including the disclosure earlier this week of hundreds of classified State Department cables. U.S. officials have reacted with outrage, with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton accusing WikiLeaks of acting illegally and promising "aggressive steps to hold responsible those who stole this information."

I would only add "if guilty" to that. If he is guilty, try him, convict him, hang him high. Karma is so wonderful sometimes.

In this case, I could care less about his "innocence" or "guilt" .....

Re: Lawyer: Assange is being persecuted in Sweden

Why does that seem just like you?

Because you aren't capable of understanding hyperbole and instead want to hurl a baseless personal attack? Perhaps that's why?

I would have to agree. It seems rather suspicious that this happens now. As States are getting pissy at Wikileaks, but they have very questionable ability to police it, it comes out that he's wanted for rape in some country and that got him put on the Most Wanted List. He should have been a famous director, you get away with things like that then and France won't extradite you either.

Drop him off in Peshawar.

Re: Lawyer: Assange is being persecuted in Sweden

Not sure why everyone is pissed off about the wikileaks stuff. The way I see it, if you are dumb enough not to properly secure your information then it is your fault if it gets taken. The losers here aren't the people who took it or the people who published it, but the United States government for not being responsible enough to adequately secure it.

As far as Interpol and the founder, it's obvious that this is political maneuvering.

It's not that we cannot properly secure information, it is that if the information is going to be viewed by humans, it only takes one person to decide to leak it to compromise the data. No matter how good the screening process is(and it is pretty good), you can never 100 % be sure of all the people with access.

Re: Lawyer: Assange is being persecuted in Sweden

I don't agree with all of those assassination and torture suggestions, but sure if he broke the law(rape, acheiving the files illegally) the law should nail him.
So long as he's escaping the law he's only casting more doubt over his already doubtful innocence.

Or it could be about forced sex with an unwilling victim and justice.

How many other countries are having this problem? How many other departments?

Yes, information can be secured. Where it can be accessed can be limited, the amount of information that can be retrieved can be limited, it can be recorded who retrieves what information and when, and so forth. This idea that you can't be 100% sure about the people who have access is exactly why you take such measures.

Several other countries, and none of what you said ensures absolute control. As this shows is that one person with access can compromise an insane amount of data.

There is no such thing as absolute control of information but if you haven't done everything in your power to secure it, then you only have yourself to blame when somebody takes advantage of you. What this shows is that the US government did not take good measures. They should have had things set up so they would know when someone was accessing large quanitities of information. They should have also had it set up so that only limited amounts of information could be removed at a single time. Finally, they should have had it set up so they knew exactly who accessed what data so they could quickly apprehend the leak and make an example out of them.

Blaming the victim is weak.
