Teen girl arrested for burning Koran

Ok. Hoe far is Louisiana from Africa?

Besides, we're all justa buncha rednecks, coonasses and niggers, down here. Right?

Would she not have been arrested if she did this at home.

If she burned books at school then that would call for suspension and possibly charged with arson and the destruction of school property assuming the Koran belonged to the school.

Would a student be arrested for wearing a KKK or nazi uniform in school? Maybe in eurotrash countries that do not value free speech, but not here in the US.

YES What do you think? Are you honestly that partisan, do you honestly believe police would break into someone's home to arrest them for this?

What do you mean "if" she was at school the news article clearly says she was at school, there is no if.

Yes here in the US someone could be arrested, personally if I was a school principal I would not arrest a student for wearing a nazi or KKK uniform, or for burning a Koran. I would have simply sent them home, so I think the principal overreacted. HOWEVER its impossible to believe that any behavior like this is normally tolerated on school campuses.

And, right after that, you should be fired.

So?
I don't make it a habit to google and keep up to date on what is the new 'in' word to insult Black people with

Actually, if someone was familiar with the movie Lethal Weapon 2, then they would know that it was a bad word for blacks. The white South Africans in that movie used it a couple of times towards Murtaugh (Danny Glover's character).

Now, I personally don't know what the original usage of the word was intended for in this thread, but it really isn't something to fight over. And perfectly reasonable for someone not to know that it has been used as a racist word before.

Its a book and nothing more that.

It's an idea. And the only way to destroy an idea is to destroy the people who believe in it. Burning books is the behavior of subhumans and degenerates, and whether it is "protected speech" or not, civilized society should at the very least view it with some distaste.

The British arrest people for hate speech(at least hate speech against gays and muslims). What part do you not get about that? So it would have not matter if the girl burned the Koran at school or in the privacy of her own home.

Here in the US someone would not have been arrested for wearing a kkk or nazi uniform to school. The US does not have hate speech laws. So the only thing she could have been arrested for is destruction of school property assuming the Koron belonged to the school and I am sure they could have had her arrested for lighting something on fire at school.

I would have simply sent them home, so I think the principal overreacted.
She still would have been arrested for burning a Koran.

She was burning a book, not books, and the Koran is not on any endangered list. It was a symbolic gesture, nothing more.

Burning a book does not destroy people who believe in it. It would be like saying burning a stack of crappy romance novels is like destroying women who read that crap. Books are pieces of paper with words written on them and nothing more. To say they are something more is to elevate them to something they are not.

Right. Europeans. Not "some other country," and certainly not the sort of place where they people stoned to death.

Europeans are civilized, even if we disagree with their interpretation of freedom.

As such, if we're going to tell them to STFU about our business, we should STFU about theirs.

Arresting someone for hate speech is no different than arresting someone for blasphemy or at least a step below that.As civilized countries we should frown upon hate speech laws.

One cannot honestly believe this. It's akin to believing that we can kill all of the terrorists (or Nazis or any other social plague).

The only way to destroy an idea is to fully discredit it. You really can't argue this point.

See? I just did it (the above quote/idea is destroyed), and no one had to die. Easy peasy.

Stop pitching softballs. There was once a bunch of people who believed an idea - that the world was flat. Did we need to kill them all to destroy the idea? No. The idea was destroyed with just a bit of bloodshed by those who destroyed it (not those who defended it, who were in power).

Do you really think there's no problem with a student burning a book in school? Heck it doesn't have to be the Koran or the Bible, it can be anything. Its the act of setting fire to an object while at school which is the undeniable fact.

The US does not have hate speech laws.

Muslims do their own policing as to what they consider 'hate speech" and that falls outside any country's national laws. Thus, in the US, the creators of South Park were forced to change their program and Mollie Norris was forced to go into hiding and assume another identity. We all remember the rioting, destruction and deaths from the Mohammed cartoons, and the reluctance of any major media to even publish them. We are becoming self censoring to the point where the laws on the subject are becoming redundant...

One thing that was not mentioned is that this 15-year-old girl was putting her own life in danger in her attempt to burn the Koran. Her own safety from Muslim reaction must have been considered.

Burning books destroys the ideas within, for those who have not read them as well as for future generations.

Books are ideas, and burning them, or censoring them, is an attempt to discourage those ideas. It is the powerful trying to control the less powerful.

But such was not the case with this young girl in Britain.

I don't think you understand US hate speech laws. In the US, hate speech is constituted by speech which calls directly for violence against a group. Preaching intolerance (witness: Westboro Baptist Church) is not outlawed. Outlawed is saying "kill them".

Sure, in some European countries hate speech laws include being rude about a funny stereotype, or displaying a flag - but not in the US. One must call for actual harm against a group before we say "ok, your right is infringing on ours too much".

It's not like arresting someone for blasphemy or a step above. In fact, it has nothing to do with ideology - so your blasphemy comparison is right out. It's exactly like arresting someone for calling for the killing/harming of a group.

ps. In your "Location:", could you please put an 's' at the end of "exist", or is it some kind of quote and I'm just ig'nant.

Too bad she wasn't simply advocating the killing and subjugation of people instead of indulging in symbolic protest. She would have been given free television time to promote her politically correct hatred instead of being arrested.

Any rules regarding hate speech regarding Muslims has been overridden by the United Nations. So this young girl not only broke the school's rules, she broke international law as defined by the UNHRC.

Britain, and indeed Western Europe, is going down the tubes even more rapidly than predicted. It is a lesson for every other democracy in the free world.

At least they got a good shot of this guy picking his nose.

I never said that noticed I said "I am sure they could have had her arrested for lighting something on fire at school." This does not matter if its a book, desk, lighter fluid squirted out in the middle of the floor and set on fire or what ever else.

If she gathered up all the Korans in the world and burned them and deleted every online version and computer document of a koran and deleted them then you might have a point.

Threats are not considered hate speech.
Hate speech - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Laws concerning hate speech outside of obscenity, defamation and incitement to riot are illegal in the United States.[33][34][35] The United States federal government and state governments are broadly forbidden by the First Amendment of the Constitution from restricting speech.[36] Even in cases where speech encourages illegal violence, instances of incitement qualify as criminal only if the threat of violence is imminent.[37] This strict standard prevents prosecution of many cases of incitement, including prosecution of those advocating violent opposition to the government, and those exhorting violence against racial, ethnic, or gender minorities

You are telling me that arresting people for burning korans and making cartoons of Mohamed is not akin to jailing someone for blasphemy
