She's an American citizen living in Oregon, not Iran or some bat**** crazy religious country like that.

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of inciting religious hatred after allegedly burning an English language version of the Koran.

The 15-year-old, who lives in the West Midlands, allegedly posted the video, filmed two weeks ago on her school premises, on Facebook.

The video was reported to the school and subsequently removed, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of making threats. Both have been released on police bail.

It has just come to my attention that I said "Oregon", this is because I was reading another news article about an Oregon teen who tried to blow up a holiday celebration while writing this article, I apologize.

Well, you got the planet right.

What a stupid little girl.
Did she not hear about the other people who got arrested for the same thing?

Here in the US, it would be frowned upon, but unlikely to cause an arrest.

Stupid, yes...But it is my impression that there is some level of tension between some Muslims and the rest of the population in the country this teen lives in...

So incidents like this seem likely to occur.

Yeah, I was all "WTF? They're arresting people for this kind of stuff in the US too now??" Then I realized of course it happened in Europe...again. We had two Hindu guys arrested here a couple of weeks ago when they threatened to burn a Koran and a Bible in front of the Swiss Parliament building in Bern. I rolled my eyes at that idiocy too. Sometimes I really hate living in this part of the free world.

UK girl, 15, accused of burning Koran and posting footage on Facebook
this took place in the UK, not here in the states. Their laws apply, not ours.

Police in the UK arrested a teenage girl on suspicion of inciting religious hatred after she allegedly burned a Koran and posted footage of the incident on Facebook, police said Thursday.

The girl, 15, has been bailed pending further inquiries following her arrest on Nov. 19.

I would have to say what stupid people the Brits are for arresting someone just for burning a book. You give the government an inch on banning speech that pisses off religious and gay crybabies then you open the door for the government to ban speech that is critical of the government, military and other ****. I am glad I live in the US.

Well she might get arrested for doing it at school, since that's against the law to light fire to stuff on government property.

And yet you can burn poppies on Remembrance Day. Shameful.

The distance between burning books and burning people is a short step and a long fall.

This girl needs to be made an example of. Maybe a flogging in the public square. How dare this blaphemous kaffir burn the holy quran.

Homophobic, much?

I mean, dude, seriously! What does homosexuality have to do with the subject of this thread?

The subject is hate speech laws in Britain. Just like they would throw in jail for offending Muslims they would throw you in jail for speaking out against homosexuality.

Not a strong enough example. These moral degenerates who call themselves "Europeans" flog each other for fun on the weekends. She would likely laugh at her flogger and ask him if that was all he was capable of.

It must be a public execution, preferably a beheading!

The subject is a particular teenager being arrested on a particular charge. Her arrest has nothing whatsoever to do with homosexuality or hatred of homosexuality.

Please leave your anti-faggot bias at the door, thanks!

She's black??

Again the subject is hate speech laws. So leave your pro-homosexual bigotry at the door.

Moderator's Warning:
Enough with the homo stuff. Both sides, knock it off and discuss the topic, ok?

You're confused. You should re-read the OP.

Why was the girl arrested? It was because of Britain's hate speech laws that dictate that if you piss off a protected class of people then you can be arrested. These hate speech laws in Britain will one day bite the British in the ass when their government decides that anti-war protests, protests against certian legslation and anti-government protests incite hatred towards the government and the military.

She was arrested for burning the Koran, not because she said anything bad about teh gayz.

She was arrested because of hate speech laws.

On 20 April 2010, police arrested Dale McAlpine, a Christian preacher, of Workington in Cumbria, for saying that homosexual conduct was a sin. On 14 May 2010, the Crown decided not to prosecute McAlpine.[10]

On 4 March 2010, a jury returned a verdict of guilty against Harry Taylor, who was charged under Part 4A of the Public Order Act 1986. Taylor was charged because he left anti-religious cartoons in the prayer-room of Liverpool's John Lennon Airport on three occasions in 2008. The airport chaplain, who was insulted, offended, and alarmed by the cartoons, called the police.[11][12][13] On 23 April 2010, Judge Charles James of Liverpool Crown Court sentenced Taylor to a six-month term of imprisonment suspended for two years, made him subject to a five-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) (which bans him from carrying religiously offensive material in a public place), ordered him to perform 100 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £250 costs. Taylor was convicted of similar offences in 2006.[14]

On 8 December 2009, Mr Justice Richard Clancy, sitting at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, acquitted Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang, hoteliers, of charges under the Public Order Act 1986 and under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. The Vogelensangs were charged after a guest at their hotel, Ericka Tazi, complained that the Vogelenzangs had insulted her after she appeared in a hijab.[15]

On 2 September 2006, Stephen Green was arrested in Cardiff for distributing pamphlets which called sexual activity between members of the same sex a sin. On 28 September 2006, the Crown advised Cardiff Magistrates Court that it would not proceed with the prosecution.[16][17]

On 13 October 2001, Harry Hammond, an evangelist, was arrested and charged under section 5 of the Public Order Act (1986) because he had displayed to people in Bournemouth a large sign bearing the words "Jesus Gives Peace, Jesus is Alive, Stop Immorality, Stop Homosexuality, Stop Lesbianism, Jesus is Lord". In April 2002, a magistrate convicted Hammond, fined him £300, and ordered him to pay costs of £395.[18][19][20]
