DeLay convicted of money laundering charges

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

By the way, DeLay has been out of office for 4 years and we had an election on Nov. 2 when 20 more Republican Legislators were elected and Perry won in a landslide. Had nothing to do with redistricting as all were individual races. How did DeLay affect those races?

Another smear on the face of politics in this country:( and conservative still don't get it.so sad.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

I suggest you read Chappy's post about redistricting then you wouldn't be making a further fool of yourself. DeLay had no affect on the 2008 or 2010 elections.
the only one looking foolish is you with your defense of delay.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

see post 97

Not unusual that you would ignore the content of others' posts, Read Chappy's post and get back to me. I responded to that post.

One is innocent until proven guilty, this will be reversed on appeal. You haven't seen or heard the testimony and simply pile on because it is DeLay. Those in TX know that the prosecutors didn't make their case. If it isn't reversed I will do what liberals like you never can do, admit that Iwas wrong and apologize.

not unusual for you to try and change the topic, as the current one is rather unpleasant for you.

so not only do you know the political lean of the jury, you also speak for all those in texas?

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

that was one great post by Roughdraft. Really excellent.

So why don't you lay out the testimony of the trial for us all since you are such an expert? My bet is you don't have a clue as usual.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Coming from someone from San Francisco, I don't really have much respect for your opinions on a case you know nothing about.

That is a really cheap shot and beneath you. Shame on you.

So you believe that Chappy has a good grasp on the testimony and the issues surrounding this case? Read his post again and get back to me. Redistricting is a state issue not something DeLay had anything to do with and it is the opinion of local attorneys that this will be overturned on appeal so then what?

why don't you? you are the one claiming to be the expert, the one who knows the political lean of the jury, and how fellow texans all think...i'm sure you spelling it all out for us would be quite entertaining.

‘Conservative’ asked how Delay's crimes affected people outside of Texas and I answered that he ensured that popular Democratic incumbents to the U.S. Congress were defeated when their districts were redrawn by a Republican dominated legislature to their political demise. All Delay had to do was illegally convert corporate money into paid media benefiting Republican candidates for state legislative offices. Now, he's a convicted criminal and all those popular Democratic incumbents are former U.S. Representatives. Delay may rot in jail, but, your Congress will never be the same. I was wrong: I said the whole of the state of Texas was a crime scene; the reality is the whole of the United States is the crime scene.

what is the political lean of these local attorneys? what are their names?

Re: Ex-House Leader DeLay Found Guilty in Texas Case

The guy who blew up a US embassy, killing 280 people gets 20 years and Delay is looking at life, because he spent political donations on...uh...politics.

Our justice system is a ****ing joke.

Remove them! They deserve to go. They are crooks.

rangel, geithner, maxine, the 41 obama staffers who haven't paid their taxes?

good for you!

Why are you defending a crook.

i haven't typed a stroke in defense of delay, if that's who you mean, for all i know he's guilty

We need look past these idiots that con us and get honest people, GOP or Dem.

yup, it starts at the top

did you know charlie's still representing washington heights, geithner's still at treas

the 41 tax cheats, at least as of sept 10, according to wapo, are still in the white house

deal with them

There are a couple of things about this subject that bother me:
  • The propensity of left-leaning posters for celebration
  • The propensity of right-leaning posters for obfuscation and finger-pointing
By no means am I saying that all posters of any particular lean are behaving in a certain way. I'm just saying I noticed patterns that bothered me.

What bothers me the most is the fact that DeLay is facing a maximum sentence of 99 + 20 years. That's obscene.

Criminal sanctions should in some way be proportional to actual harm done. Failing a clear finding on that front, a sentence of not more than 3 years is more than reasonable.

did you hear about what looks like hush money charlie gave to sitting members of the ethics committee, source cbs?

CBS 2 HD has learned of more alleged back-door dealings and political power peddling by Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel.
The reigning member of Congress’ top tax committee is apparently “wrangling” other politicos to get him out of his own financial and tax troubles. …
CBS 2 HD has discovered that since ethics probes began last year the 79-year-old congressman has given campaign donations to 119 members of Congress, including three of the five Democrats on the House Ethics Committee who are charged with investigating him.
Charlie’s “angels” on the committee include Congressmen Ben Chandler of Kentucky, G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina and Peter Welch of Vermont. All have received donations from Rangel.

Did Rangel pay off Ethics Committee members? Update: WaPo says, “Time to go” « Hot Air

now, there's some mighty fine CORRUPTION

and the kicker---he's STILL THERE

I rest my case.

charlie didn't, he walked out

but he kept his seat

corruption continues in the capitol, both ends of pennsylvania

deal with it

the hammer's headed to the hoosegow

The best you can do is to repeat the same thing over and over and over.

You've proven completely unable to say anything of substance on the subject of Tom DeLay.

I'm not the one having a problem dealing with it.

I favor life in prison with no parole for any congressman who get's caught in a felony. That has nothing to do with DeLay or his party, I just hate corruption in public officials.

There is a growing number of felony offenses on the books which:
  • Are too vaguely defined
  • Essentially function ex post facto because of how an increasingly cooperative judiciary interprets them to favor "innovative" prosecutors
  • Can be broken without any criminal intent whatsoever

Until that gets fixed, I'm not a fan of locking up anybody for life over "a felony," not even our Congresscritters.

So, are you content with Rangel getting what amounts to an ass chewing for evading hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes?
