DeLay convicted of money laundering charges

This is a local issue and not national in scope. Attornies in Houston claim that the prosecutiion didn't prove their case and thus this will be overturned on appeal. Wouldn't be surprised if a few of the people here weren't sitting on the jury acting on their own biases. Austin is one of the few bastions of liberalism in the state of TX and we saw evidence of that fact tonight. I have no problem convicting DeLay if he truly broke the law but there still is question of that based upon the testimony that was presented. Doubt that many people here know about that testimony since they don't live here and in fact probably didn't even know that a trial was going on.

did not a jury of his peers convict him? and yes, it is a national issue, as delay was an influential congressman, who had the ear of republican leadership.

delay's OUT

charlie and maxine are IN

deal with them
your off topic again....delay is the topic, not 'charlie or maxine'...deal with him

DeLay has been out of office for 8 years now, Waters, Rangel, and Geitner are still holding down their jobs. DeLay resigned doing what was right, Democrats don't believe they did anything wrong and hang on for dear life.

stay on topic, which is delay.....

stay on topic

ah, so you're not interested in looking at corruption

it's the hammer you want

LOL!

point taken

meanwhile, charlie and maxine still sit smack dab in nancy's caucus

party on, progressives

When I saw these threads, my first thought was wondering how long it would take people to start pointing to others. Apparently not long.

For those who still have not figured it our, corruption has nothing to do with parties or partisan politics, and everything to do with people abusing their power. Rangel was found guilty of being corrupt, and deserves everything he gets. This has nothing to do with his party. DeLay was convicted of a crime, and deserves everything he gets. This has nothing to do with his party. I am a liberal democrat, and I don't give a **** that DeLay is a republican. The only thing that matters is he is a criminal.

You can go back to your mindless partisan finger pointing now, sorry to distract you from it.

Then go start a thread on Waters, Rangel, or Geitner, this thread is about that twice convected felon and dancing with the stars contestant Tom Delay.

i'm interested in discussing delay's predicament....there is a thread already for rangel, if you wish to discuss him, that is the place to do it...why the hardcore push to try and change the topic?

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment that this isn't about partisan politics. Conservative's assertion that we don't have the right to comment on this issue because we don't live in Texas is absurd. He was the leader of the House and he was a criminal. He was an adulterous man who led the charge to impeach Clinton -- what a hypocrite. He improperly took money from lobbyists and sold his vote to the highest bidder. He was a criminal and a shameful man, it is our right to comment on his fate. Ironically, defending him simply because he is a Republican is what Conservative is doing. Anybody condemning him is clearly doing so because he is a criminal and deserves to be punished.

why the hard core push to avoid the topic---CORRUPTION?

why are charlie, maxine and the tax cheat at treas still in washington?

it's embarrassing, no?

Hey I wonder what Lardass (Rush Limbaugh) has to say about this? Anyone know? I normally can't stand to listen to him but I'm curious what his take on it is.

Wasn't Delay instrumental in getting Bush on the road to the Whitehouse or am I thinking of someone else?

Conservative: He's done put a fork in 'em. Get over it. He'll be safe in prison though. Too old to be someone's bitch.

You really are out of touch with reality, go back to your make believe govt. as I hear that Hulk Hogan is out of a job and would be good candidate for a state office in Minnesota. Whether he deserves to be punished or not is up to the courts and from the actual testimony this verdict will be overturned. What are you going to say then?

he is a criminal and deserves to be punished.

he's being punished

there are some rather prominent people, however, who aren't

in fact, a few of em are wielding quite a bit of power, y'know, TODAY

deal with them

anyone think delay will get the max if the conviction stands? i personally doubt it.

What does DeLay's support for Bush have to do with anything. DeLay didn't make 52% of the people vote for Bush in 2004. You really need to get over your BDS as it is unhealthy.

Actually I was just asking. I'm not the one that keeps bringing up names that have nothing to do with this thread.

anyone think rangel will be expelled

i doubt it

he'll STAY IN CONGRESS

Jeeze what is he your brother-in-law or something?

Just don't like liberal hypocrites piling on without all the facts. DeLay resigned in 2006 and this case has been ongoing now for almost 8 years. It will be appealed and more than a few attornies claimed that DeLay didn't break any laws. Austin is one of the few bastions of liberalism left in the state. What are you going to do when the verdict is overturned on appeal?

again, rangell is not the topic of this thread....stay on topic

Re: Ex-House Leader DeLay Found Guilty in Texas Case

Are you saying that when he was convicted of among other things peddling his influence(with the Vice President of the United States ) that it dont effect every American citizen?

<as jurors heard testimony about large contributions flowing to Mr. DeLay from corporations seeking to influence him and junkets to posh resorts where the congressman would rub shoulders with lobbyists in return for donations.>

Didn't he also influence the redistricting in Texas that shaped GOP voting majorities?
