DeLay convicted of money laundering charges

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Yep, and DeLay has the right to appeal. When the verdict is overturned what then for you? Amazing how it is the will of the people when someone is convicted that some don't like but an injustice when that verdict is overturned on the rule of law? Nothing DeLay does is going to satisfy you but the point remains the will of the people of TX shows that that DeLay did not have an affect on the majority in this state and their will.

And what if it is not overturned? I'm not the one here exuding confidence like a lanced boil exudes puss.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Bred, born, raised, lived in Texas, so according to your logic I would have more claim than a transplant.

Besides, I knew of and about 'Hot Tub Tom' long before you even heard of Texas, much less moved there.

I stated that the conspiracy to violate election law charge was thrown out and upheld by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in '07 and you reply that it was MY OPINION...LOL...now that has to be the most damn silly thing I've seen you post on these forums - and that takes some doing. I mean, it's not like it's not so easily verifiable anywhere you care to look, media, court records, take your pick.

Since you were born and raised in TX then you understand the appeals process as well as you under stand Ronnie Earl. Things have been very bleak for you over the past decade on the political front as it appears that the will of the majority contradicts your will to get those who you don't agree with.

How many times do I have to state that I will apologize and admit that I was wrong.

Texas has already lowered their standards in many ways, so I agree that Tom might get pardoned, or something, eventually.
The man has big brass balls, it would not surprise me to see him running for governor of Texas, and then president.:(

Okkey dookey sparky.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Tom DeLay is a very public figure; while from Texas, whose votes in Congress affected the country. It always brings me great joy to see those who abuse power receive punishment; Right, Left, or otherwise. With his close association to Jack Abramoff is proof positive of his scum factor.

The Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal is a United States political scandal relating to the work performed by political lobbyists Jack Abramoff, Ralph E. Reed, Jr., Grover Norquist and Michael Scanlon on Indian casino gambling interests for an estimated $85 million in fees. Abramoff and Scanlon grossly overbilled their clients, secretly splitting the multimillion-dollar profits. In one case, they secretly orchestrated lobbying against their own clients in order to force them to pay for lobbying services.
In the course of the scheme, the lobbyists were accused of illegally giving gifts and making campaign donations to legislators in return for votes or support of legislation. Representative Bob Ney (R-OH) and two aides to Tom DeLay (R-TX) have been directly implicated; other politicians, mostly Republican lawmakers with connections to Indian affairs, have various ties. The utter contempt these callous feks have for humanity is unimaginable. Regardless of what happens on this earth, they have a special place waiting for them on the other side. That is, if they even believe.

Correct me if I am wrong, but were not the last elections a few weeks before the conviction? How could the conviction of Delay have any impact on elections that have not yet happened? And it matters not if they do or not... he was convicted in a court and got all his Constitutional rights and was convicted under Texas law by a jury.

Pure speculation on your part that it would have had any affect on the elections. Anyone watching the trial would have come to the same conclusion that most attorneys in Houston came to, the case was not made and DeLay wouldn't be convicted. Most Texans are very independent and pretty good judges of character. Any candidate in this state that supported the Obama agenda got destroyed and nothing DeLay did changed that reality.

Democrats took control of Congress in the 2006 elections so how did DeLay affect that election? Too bad you don't go after Democrats with the same passion as you seem to hate Republicans. Ever been to Chicago and involved in Chicago politics? How about NY, California, Philly, Detroit, or any other Democrat dominated state or city. You have selective outrage

You really have an interesting view on the state of TX. Looks to me it is based upon prejudices you have based upon dealing with relatives that live in Kingwood. Your claim that TX has lowered standards is a personal view that isn't based upon facts.

So the crime committed in Texas is OK because other politicians did it in other states?

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Excuse me....?
I will spell it out for you...Texas lowered its standards first by electing Bush to governor....is that factual enough for you?
BTW, I have one relative in Kingwood, and she is well off. It is the other relatives that are the problem, and they live in Houston and Livingston.

Who said anything about elections? I didn't. You are to busy rubber-stamping replies. I previously stated I was happy to see ANYONE brought to justice. Take a breath.

Randel said that DeLay "destroyed the will of the people" and as I pointed out the actual results which show that he had little if any affect on the will of the people. You have a lot of passion for what happened to Tom DeLay and the question is why? My bet is you don't really care but are just looking to stir the pot knowing that I am doing the same thing.

do you know 'most of the people' of texas? how would you know if they are 'pretty good judges of charachter'? you say that anyone who watched the trial would come to the same conclussion as a couple of lawyers in houston? how come the jury didnt? and why did they find him guilty? you can't make claims like that and substantiate them with any evidence, for anyone to actually belive your statements, they would have to assume that you personally know the minds of everyone in texas....that is impossible, as you well know..

WTF????

You show DeGuerin filed a motion, in '05, to quash "conspiracy to violate the Texas Election Code".

I stated that the charge of conspiracy to violate election law was thrown out and upheld by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in '07 and you want to argue. Are you intentionally trying to look ridiculous?

That is because what Obama is doing affects us all, what DeLay was convicted of doing had a local affect and had no affect on your or anyone else outside of TX. DeLay was one of 435, Obama is making policy now and has tax cheat Geithner in charge of the Treasury.

He tried to illegally make the State of Texas permanently GOP red. Gerrymandering is something that I don't like, but must accept. Illegally laundering money to back GOP politicians for the State Legislature I don't like, and do not have to accept.

Throw his ass in stir for 11 months, then parole him for 10 years. That should be enough of a black mark to keep him out of future politics.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Good, hang him! We have a legal system that allows for appeals and that is what is happening. thanks for showing just how partisan you really are.

How did that affect the vote in the 2004 and 2008 Presidential elections where Bush won by 3 million votes and McCain won by 1 million votes, Perry won in a landslide as did KBH and Cornyn. Those show the majority support and have nothing to do with redistricting.

Again, that is your opinion, the people of TX disagreed with you and voted overwhelmingly for Bush both as Governor and as President. You are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is. GW Bush did nothing to hurt you or your family and beat the hell out of both Gore and Kerry. You sure have selective reasoning skills.

what part of 'recent elections have no part in what delay was convicted of ' don't you understand? your credibility is going down faster than the titanic.

Non-sequitur. I said redistricting was OK.

Stacking the State Legislature sure in Hell affects me and my family. That's what he was convicted of doing.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Quote conservative

As I pointed out what DeLay was convicted of doing had zero affect on national policies.

Hhmm…zero effect eh? His laundered money funded seven campaigns in the lone star. Six of that seven won and the result was, the Texas legislature was in republican hands for the first time.

So what did the hammer do next? Why of course, the reasons for his crimes against America in the first place, he used that to gerrymander the districts, and we have seen what happened, more republicans went to congress in 2004.

Thus entesr the era of the hammers crimes against America. One could say that with the appointment of John Roberts on September 29, 2005, Samuel Alito on January 31, 2006 brought us corporate funded government.

So your statement that had “zero affect “ on the national scene is…well, adds a big zero to your credibility. :2wave:
