Islamic community center developer seeks federal funding

Maybe we should stop meddling in the ME and South Asia. Maybe we should remove our troops from muslim lands. Maybe then muslim freedom fighters would leave us alone.

I wish we should bring all our troops home, focus til we get it straight here and then we will see what is up.

People fighting, killing and blowing each other up in other places is not really on my top of the list radar screen since we have so many problems right here. I sound like a bitch but would rather our focus be making sure no kids go hungry, get killed by gangsters, etc. than worrying about someone that could give a crap less about us and wishes us death to worry about it.

Spend money here, get our homeland straight and then maybe try to save the rest of the world. Those that hate us should be the LAST on our to do list. JMO

Is that also the problem in Europe

Cease the personal attacks, folks.

OK, look.

If attempting to stop the building of this thing is wrong and evil because it's an affront to First Amendment freedom of religion, then so, too, are federal funds to help build it.

You cannot have it both ways. If this is not a religious building, then protests against it have no freedom of religion component to them at all.

The United States armed forces can't fix the problems here, unless you're suggesting that they launch a coup to overthrow Obama.

Neat. Can my Christian church recieve federal funding?

What with all this seperation of church and state nonsense, I figure it'd be alright.

But the people and our gov can

I agree. We shouldn't have taxpayer funded religious buildings. I also think religious groups shouldn't have special tax exemptions.

Seeking federal funding? Are you kidding me? Only in the wonderful U.S.A.:doh

Actually in Europe. Public money funds religious buildings all the time not to mention special tax breaks
Tax money is often used for Mosques, Churches, faith schools etc and it is compulsory or used to be in some European countries to learn about Christianity and religion.

Only problem is though that we can't just call a time out. This is the real world, and if we aren't the ones setting the bar, others with maybe not the same intent would.

No, you don't sound like a Bitch, but rather an American worried like the rest of us when we see what is happening to our country. It isn't pretty, and will not be easy. I too struggle with the terms of being the most prosperous nation on earth, and with that comes not only the good things like our cushy standard of living, but responsibility in the larger picture. I think we can all agree that we would love to see nothing but rainbows, and candy chocolate streams, in a world without war, and the ugliness that is inherent in mankind, but we really need to live in reality now so more than ever.

Again, you can't just call time out. But the so called 'War on Poverty' has been a colossal failure, what makes you believe that dumping more money into it would be any different?

If liberals are against Christian churches/buildings recieving government aid, then they must also be against Muslim churches/buildings recieving the same, lest they be proven hypocrites.

LOL! Because somehow in your mind Liberals are the only ones that can be Hypocrites...

This move is motivated by the exact same reason that they chose to build in that location in the first place.

Just wanting to stick a needle in the eye of the U.S.

Peace and community, my ass. This guy just wants to provoke.

At least one Christian church has in fact received funding from the government to build here, and I and most liberals did not have an issue with it.

Nice try though.

Was it Christians that flew those planes in 2001? Um, Nope. Nice try though....

Do the Park51 organizers have anything whatsoever to do with those planes in 2001? Um, nope. Nice try though...

Have we fully checked them out to make sure of that?....Um...Nope. Nice try though.

Is that their fault? Um...Nope. Nice try though.

Are they guilty until proven innocent? Um...Nope. Nice try though.

Do you have any ground to stand on whatsoever? Um...Nope. Nice try though.

a. Are you willing to overlook that fact? Yep....Nice try though.

b. Guilty? I don't know until we get the balls to investigate them like we should and drop the PC crap...Nice try though.

c. I don't expect to win over the minds of those who suffer from Stockholm syndrome....Nice try though.

Buh-bye now.

It's not so much that I'm willing to overlook that they haven't been investigated it as it is that I haven't heard or read a single solitary thing that indicates that they should be investigated.

Is it your position that every single individual and organization in the United States must be preemptively investigated before they're permitted to go about their business in peace?

Was it Christians that flew those planes in 2001? Um, Nope. Nice try though....

It was individuals who flew those planes in 2001. Just as I do not condemn christainity as a whole for the acts of a few, I do not condemn Muslims for the act of a few.

Or is it your fault that the christian group in Detroit plotted to kill a Detroit cop and bomb his funeral?

You make really good points. This world would be so cool if we could just call a time out when we want but it does not work like that and thanks for the reminder.

Just because the War On Poverty has been a failure does not mean we should give it up. I mean it is not in our nature to give up and esp on a good fight.

I do not pretend to know all the answers but this should be our main focus and am sure that with the right great minds we have here? We could figure it out. We give up on the programs that do not seem to work and create better ones.

The ones that work? We create even better models of the programs that work. Example is WIC. Why not have more programs like it? Those kind of things is what we need.

The Saudi prince who was supposedly funding it (and has since denied offering any funding) agrees, and has repeatedly, publicly, asked them not to build it near ground zero.
