House GOP blocks bill to extend jobless benefits

Which party wants to pay for current spending rather than pass it off to the next generations?

I don't understand people like you. Why does the govt. need the money more than you and why are liberals fighting so hard to raise taxes on individuals.

Now that clears that up. You don't understand because you are misinformed. What we want to do is to extend the tax cuts on the first $250,000.00 of income for all 100% of the American people. The teeny tiny miniscule 2% who make over that will only see their taxes rise on an amount over that.

So now that we cleared that up, we hope to have you on board. ;)

I don't think Obama supporters pay much attention to reality and actual facts. Slowly the American people are waking up as evidenced by the Nov. 2 elections but some never will wake up and remain in that Obama trance.

No, you don't get it, why let any of the tax cuts expire? Are you one of those that continues to believe what Obama tells you in spite of not one of his claims being accurate? How much are those tax increases going to reduce the deficit? Where is the evidence?

You haven't cleared up anything yet so let's see you answer my question?

You can only push some people so far before they'll take their money and run. A tax hike on the richest may be the last straw. They have enough money to pick up and leave the country if they want. These millionaires left the state and the tax hike backfired.

Maryland Was Depending On Taxing Millionaires, But They're Disappearing
May 14, 2009|By Laura Smitherman | Laura Smitherman,laura.smitherman@baltsun.com
One of Maryland's budget-balancing tactics - asking millionaires to pay more money to the state - appears to be backfiring as the number of the highest-earning taxpayers dwindles with the flagging economy.
A year ago, Maryland became one of the first states in the nation to create a higher tax bracket for millionaires as part of a broader package of maneuvers intended to help balance the state's finances and make the tax code more progressive. But as the state comptroller's office sifts through this year's returns, it is finding that the number of Marylanders with more than $1 million in taxable income who filed by the end of April has fallen by one-third, to about 2,000. Taxes collected from those returns as of last month have declined by roughly $100 million.Maryland Millionaire Tax - Top Payers Fade Away - Baltimore Sun
Last line of your source....Millionaires are only part of that picture. According to fiscal analysts, those with taxable income of more than $1 million accounted for only 0.3 percent of all filers.

that is maryland's problem...those leaving MD are most likely those with unearned income. If they have jobs, they are less likely to leave until they find another job in their new state. They will face higher federal taxes no matter what state they run to. And if they leave the country, THEN they will find out what high taxes really are...

You don't get it, any increase in taxes affects human behavior and when Federal Taxes go up, people are going to look to lower their expenses somewhere else and that means they will look to states with lower taxes. TX continues to take businesses from all over the nation but in particular business from Illinois and California. There is no state income taxes in TX so when a Federal Tax increase is added to state taxes there is only one way to keep expenses down, move and that is what businesses do.

Yes, Texas has no state taxes, I use to live there..... but Texans still pay federal taxes.....so as I said, that is Maryland's problem...the big issue here is federal taxes...

Odd how many are so concerned with the plight of the rich, having to pay more taxes and all, when they are not one of them....

Yes, Texans do pay Federal Income taxes so tell me which person has a higher total tax burden, Texans or those in Maryland? That is the point, When Federal Taxes go up individuals are going to try and find a way to balance out that burden. How do you explain businesses moving to TX?

Utah, I don't get it, why such a defense for higher taxes for the Federal Govt? Why are liberals so passionate about raising taxes on anyone? What benefit are those higher taxes going to generate regardless of who pays them? Unbelieveable, this is like a cult. Only one group is fighting hard to take more money from taxpayers, why? If you truly cared about revenue to the govt. why not focus on the big group of 47% that don't pay any Federal Income taxes?

How do states that don't have income tax pay for things? ;)

no more odd than how many are so concerned about the plight of the poor, getting screwed by the man and all, when they are not one of them.

Sales tax, property taxes, excise taxes, lower state expenses like a part time legislature.

Higher fees for state services and licenses too. The point is, it isn't free to live in Texas.

Interesting isn't how all these "compassionate" liberals are so concerned about the deficit that they promote higher taxes on a particular group of people, the top 2%, knowing that won't have any impact at all on the deficit but ignore the 47% that don't pay any Federal income taxes which could really affect the deficit? This is all about class warfare and nothing more.

Higher fees? how do you know the cost of living in TX? Fees are on services, don't use the service, don't pay the fees. Amazing how personal choices affect personal finances! It isn't free to live anywhere but businesses keep moving to TX, wonder why? Hmmm

Right, I am not poor, and I am also not greedy. The poor don't need more tax breaks, they need better education, more jobs, and a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD in the investment world....and then they can pay more in taxes...
The rich, especially the unearned income rich, don't need more tax breaks. They can afford lawyers and lobbiests to get around the laws...

Property taxes too. And we have an upcoming 20 billion dollar budget "gap."

Projected budget gap for year 2012-2013. amazing isn't it, here we are in 2010 and politicians know what is going to happen 2 -3 years later. Obama hasn't been right on any prediction so what makes you so sure that people projecting that "gap" will be right on this one?

The passion you and others have for a failed ideology is absolutely incredible. It really is like a cult following where facts and reality have no place in your world.

It isn't the role of the govt. to create jobs, it is the role of govt. to give individuals the incentive to create jobs. Liberals don't understand that concept.

What does Obama have to do with the Texas State budget?

hint: about as much as the price of tea in china does.

The wealth gap has been steadily widening for some time now. It's hard to garner sympathy for the top 2% when others are struggling to make ends meet.

State income taxes are part of the reason, but certainly isn't the only reason. To refresh your memory, Texas is a right to work state, so no UNION requirements...

Nothing, but the same people claiming that we are going to have a budget gap are similar to the ones that claimed the stimulus plan would cap unemployment at 8% and would grow the economy annually at 4%. You buy what these people tell you and the question is why when their predictions have never been right?

Exactly as unions drive up costs. Too bad arrogant liberals don't steal "shamelessly" from TX and implement TX economic policy in their own states.

Yes, it might mean a slightly smaller mansion for the rich if they have to pay a bit more in taxes....or even worse, they might have to lay off one of their undocumented illegal alien workers....

Vehicle registration, hunting/fishing licenses, driver's licenses, etc.

I have family in Texas.

Why would businesses care what individual income taxes are? Perhaps it's something else. ;)
