Gallup poll points to GOP rout

It wasn't tea party candidates. The lesson that came out of this election is that America is a "centrist" nation. They rejected Democrats due to inability to clean up the GWB mess....and they rejected the far-right extreme tea bagger candidates.

I don't think you were watching the same elections we all were.

I am glad Reid is still around. I didn't want the GOP to get the senate because the real goal is to get rid of the socialist in chief in two years and not having Reid would hurt that effort. we have enough to block any controversial supreme court nominee and of course we can defund Obama care. But we didn't need Obama being able to blame the GOP for every screw up that happens starting in January. Reid is still senate leader and a big target to paint with the brush of failure and taint Obama by association

excellent point.

Oh, how I hope the Dems will be making similar claims. It will only make them appear more out of touch with reality than they already do. How about Pelosi's inane assurances that the Dems would retain the house? LOL - I wonder how many of those that got the boot are thinking back to when she assured them over the healthcare vote and are thinking "well, damn."

How then do you explain the almost across the board repudiation of the teabaggers then? Looks like the real winners tonight are the moderates....

Is there a reason you choose to be vulgar? do you feel like you were teabagged this election?

It was a resounding sweep ushered in by the tea party movement,

True Dat!! DD is living in lala land if he actually believes what he's saying. I mean, crap, even Olberdood, and Mathews on MSNBC knew it was too much to spin.. I flipped back and forth last night as the temptation was just too damn much.. :)

Tim-

Whaaaa?

How in the world are you suggesting this?

Mike Lee won by 30% in utah in the senate.

Rand Paul won by 10% in kentucky in the senate.

Tim Scott in SC's race for a house seat won by almost 40%

Nikki Haley won the SC governor race by 4%

Maine hasn't been called yet but LePaige is currently winning in the Governor race.

Jesse Kelly is down in the house race in Arizona but its too close to call at the moment

Ken Buck is down by .4% with still 13% left to report and the race is too close to call

Marco Rubio won by 20% over a former republican indepdendent and almost 30 over the democrat in the senate.

Ron Johnson won by almost 5% over a long time and well known member of the senate in Fiengold.

Your big losses so far is Angle, Miller, and O'Donnell. O'Donnell wasn't exactly expected by most reasonable observers, including the reasonable oens in the tea party, to take the seat. And Miller essentially lost to a Republican.

I know this may come as a stunning shock to you Disney, but just because the media and democrats were obsessed with Angle and O'Donnell and tried DESPERATELY to make them the face and singular focus of what the tea party is because they were the best fodder for attacking them to create ratings and/or political advantages, doesn't actually make them the whole of the Tea Party let alone the main ones.

Johnson, Rubio, and Paul into the senate are all big ones. LePaige and Haley (and while not as much Tea Paryt specifically backed, Martinez in NM as well) are big ones in governor seats.

To suggest there was an "across the board repudiation" is nothing but an incredibly ignorant comment and I suggest you actually look at the results and educate yourself on it before speaking on it again.

Actually, when you look at the statistics, the races that the tea party candidate won were for the most part in ultra-red districts where anyone with an (R) behind their name would have won, with few exceptions.....in competitive districts, the tea-party candidates lost across the board.

and I hope that the GOP doesn't recognize the lesson this election as well....however, I suspect that there will be a big move on the part of the GOP to silence Palin and the teabaggers before 2012...it will be interesting to watch.

It's funny to see you all weepy and whiny, You haven't used the term "Teabaggers" recently until the election, are you really that sad panda? feel like you were teabagged this election?

:lamo

I rarely talk about the teabaggers at all....and I'm not weepy at all. I'm actually very happy for the most part....This election reminded me once again why I moved to California. Most all of my candidates won. The one that looks like he is going to lose is the one Republican that I voted for.
The reality is....by losing the house, the Democrats probably just reassured winning the whitehouse in 2012. If the economy improves, Obama is likely to benefit in 2012...if it doesn't, the GOP is not going to be in a good position to say "hey...we did so well with Congress....give us the whitehouse".
All in all....I don't feel bad about the election at all.

That's good, it would be rather embarrassing for you to ramble on about a sexual act at the dinner table.

This is just rationalization DD, this is what you do, post some oddball spin on your party's failures thinking it would change reality. It's sad and funny actually. And while kalifornia voted in the same dimwits that bankrupted the state, I'm sure you can find time to get a towel to wipe your electoral teabagging off your face.

The funny yet sad thing about many of your posts like this one Rev....is that you don't see the glaring hypocrisy in your own words.

Well...that's 2 of the 3 seats that they won. They lost pretty much every other seat.
As for Rubio....LOL....do you think Latinos are really that stupid that they are going to vote for someone just because they are of latin descent? Sorry Navy....but there isn't a serious GOP Presidential candidate out there yet....maybe there will be one, but so far, none of the front runners stand a chance.

I thought you said the Republicans would only pick up a few seats in the HOR........It was a blood bath, one of the worse in history..........

How then do you explain the almost across the board repudiation of the teabaggers then? Looks like the real winners tonight are the moderates....

You mean the moderate/conservative Blue Dog Democrats who got massacred by conservative candidates? Or the moderate RINOs who got tossed on the keisters in the primaries? As Zyph said, the two high profile tea party defeats were two of the kookiest and most vulnerable candidates. The third one was a guy who lost to a Republican moderate running as an independent. Solid Tea Party candidates like Paul and Rubio are what should be the face of the Tea Party and they could be the future of the Republican Party. But they don't say crazy things like "I dabbled in witchcraft" so they don't get the national coverage the other two loons got.

I was wondering last night how left wing partisans would try to spin the results, and not surprisingly you're name popped into my head. And I have to say, so far you've managed to exceed all my expectations.

I never said that your Republican party would "only pick up a few seats"....I said that they would pick up between 45-50. I was off slightly....but not as badly as your prediction that they would win 80...LOL.....

The results of the election were definitely a mixed bag. Clearly the Republican party did well in the house, but did not have a particularly strong showing in the Senate, losing most of the close races and not coming close to taking the Senate.
The more interesting thing to come out of this election is to see what direction the GOP takes....if the teabaggers are able to push the GOP further to the right, I think that this would be very good for the Democrats and lefties like me. The more linked the GOP is to Sarah Palin and the fringe groups, the better for us...in fact, I hope that Palin feels a surge and rides it to the party's nomination. 2012 should be fun.

Meh he makes it up with the governers.... :lamo

Why would it be good for democrats like you? Do you like that sort of (political) "Teabagged" thing? :ssst:

I'm glad. But my "spin" is no different that the spin from the far right.....actually I would have to say I've even been more moderate. The reality is...the lesson that I hope the GOP doesn't learn is that America is a centrist country. As a far-left liberal I hate to admit that...and I hate having Blue Dogs and moderate Democrats, but I accept that this is the reality. If the GOP accepts your spin and believes that this is a mandate to move the country to the hard right....that can only be good for people like me because they will alienate the vast majority of the people in this country.

Remember folks, the lesson to take from moderate blue dog democrats losing overwhelmingly to staunch conservative republicans is that the country is really moderate and centrist and that's how they want things done.

Okay. But you do realize that the independent who sided with you tonight sided with Dems just two years ago.

You do have to please them or they will leave you right away (as they did in 2006 and 2008).

The mandate is simply to get **** done and create jobs. Why would Republicans have a net negative favorability rating of 12 points (compared to Democrats 10 points) if they were so loved?

If Repubicans make the mistakes of misreading the mandate (and I think they will), they'll see the independents turn on them the same way they just turned on Democrats.

Well, a U-Turn is in order, so the country MUST turn right, (Prefer) in order to negotiate the turn.. :) I hear the sound of rubber screaching as well.. The nation is a center right nation, and always has been pretty much. Places like Kalifornia, Vermont, CT, NY-City, all major metropolitan areas for that matter are left of center. If not for the urban strongholds, the likes of people that lean your way would never be an issue. If not for the union thuggary, illegal votes, and of course don't forget those popular Democrat sheeps, the colored folk, oh and lets not forget the American idol demographic; the Democratic party would have phased to oblivion decades ago. Well, that is, the democratic party of today, which, now without the blue dogs, resembels the nationlist socialist party of a particular fame..

You got b-Slapped goodo by America! Go America!

Jefferson was right afterall. America will make mistakes, but they'll always come around. :)

The moderates and bluedogs lost, leaving only the radicals on the left.

Indeed, however the more accurate thing to look at would be 2006.

You do have to please them or they will leave you right away (as they did in 2006 and 2008).

Indeed. The issue is, just like in 2006, reading what it is will "please" them.

The mandate is simply to get **** done and create jobs. Why would Republicans have a net negative favorability rating of 12 points (compared to Democrats 10 points) if they were so loved?

Yes, and specifically to get **** done and create jobs in a conservative manner.

If Repubicans make the mistakes of misreading the mandate (and I think they will), they'll see the independents turn on them the same way they just turned on Democrats.

In 2006 the Democrats got swept into office with the focus being on Anti-War sentiment, and the secondary sentiment being against Republican and Bush policies in general. They did this by running moderate to conservative "blue dog" Democrats. After winning they misread the mandate and decided it meant support of universal health care, bailouts, stimulus, cap and trade, and other such things they've been trying to push.

In 2010 Republicans got swept into congress by rejecting moderate and liberal republicans in exchange for conservative ones, and based on a message of fixing the deficit and economy with lowered spending, smaller government, and not raising taxes.

Like the Democrats, if they misread what they were elected for they're going to be booted out. HOWEVER, what they got elected for is NOT the same reasons Democrats got elected in 2006, nor was it the same way. MODERATE democrats were elected in 2006 to give them their majority, primarily due to the war. In 2010 CONSERVATIVe republicans were elected to give them the majority, primarily due to economic and governmental issues.

If the republicans over reach and think this was a referendum on conservatism as a whole and start pushing massive Defense and Social conservative issues as their focus then yes, they're doomed for misreading the message. Similarly however if republicans read this as the country wanting them to be "moderate" and to "compromise" to help the Democratic President pass what he wants then they're ALSO misreading the message.
