What about opec and the S&L issue.

What about them?

You want economic results? Have at it. Compare the Reagan, GWH Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama results. (Jetboogie, I will be here to accept your apology for ever doubting my numbers. Puts Obama in a different light, doesn't it?)

So OPEC had no impact on the economy? Im trying to make a few points. If you look at most significant recession we have had since the great depression there are two of three components. Banks, trade, and Government.

The issues President Carter had were more with Banks and Trade than Government.
The issues President Bush had were more to do with Banks and Trade than Government.
The issues President Obama has are more to do with Banks and Trade than Government.

You can say that Government controls both Banks and Trade but keep thinking about it.

The cause was Carter economic policy that micromanaged the economy like most liberals try to do. His energy policy was a disaster as were his wage and price freezes. As bad as he was Obama is making him look good and doing a Clinton on us, taking an economy that was improving at the end of a recession and trying to destroy it. The difference between Reagan and Obama is quite the opposite, Reagan believed in the American people whereas Obama believes it is the governments role to redistribute wealth.

The cause the direct cause of the 1981-1982 recession was Paul Volker deciding to get a handle on inflation. He jacked up the fed funds rate to a drastically high level, causing a massive slowdown in the economy. Reagan spent far more of the publics money then you give him credit for. He borrowed massively, increasing the debt faster then to a greater degree to all others bar Obama. He increased the Social Security program and increased Social Security taxes being one of the largest tax increases in the US ever. He left a massive debt for future generations to pay (making future generations pay for todays consumption) He was just about the most irresponsible fiscal president the US ever had. He did not believe in the american people, he believed in the power of government spending to stimulate the economy.

Right, that is why he gave the American taxpayer a 10-10-5% tax cut over three years. He didn't believe in the American people spending their own money.

Sure he liked the american people to spend their own money, but to do so he had the government spend future generations money. Just who do you think is going to have to pay for all the debt rung up during the reagan admin

I would rather be paying for the 1.7 trillion Reagan supposedly singlely created debt during his 8 years which took the debt to 2.6 trillion vs. the 3 Trillion Obama added in 2 years taking the debt to 13.7 trillion. My bet, and I could be wrong, the debt service on 2.6 trillion is a lot less than the debt service on 13.7 trillion.

You are wrong in the way you present issues

You can not truely compare dollar values from different time periods you have to use % to account for economic growth and inflation

A nice way to dodge the issue though conservative.

What continues to amaze me is the impact that Reagan had on liberals and socialists. All I see is a diversion from the present to focus on what happened 20-30 years ago. Don't blame one from doing that because the results today are much worse than anything we have ever had. Those concerned about the Reagan/Bush debt seem to ignore that Obama has put that spending on steroids and what do we have to show for it, 4 million more unemployed since signing the Stimulus and 3 trillion added to the debt in just two years. That is a record to run from.

Now for the thread topic, This was all over the business news yesterday but was buried by the MSM as evidenced by the location of the news in the NY Times. Wonder why Obamacare is being sold as something great for Americans and will lower costs but 111 entities most with ties to Obama were allowed waivers and opted out? It would seem to me that Obama supporters would want to send the right message to the American people. Unfortunately for Obama even his supporters know that this is a job killer and obviously they want no part of losing jobs for their employees and thus their union dues.
