Student kills himself after gay sex footage put online

So, then regardless of the suicide you think someone should get five years for posting a video of someone else without their consent?

And people say DWI Punishments are bad.... this is absolutely ridiculous.

I guess in the age of warrantless wiretaps, searches and arrests this is going to come as a surprise to many of the sheep out there, but, yes, you're damn right I'm gonna throw the book at any little **** who not only dares spy on me, but streams my private life all over the internet.

I really don't care how ridiculous my wish to protect my privacy may seem to some.

No matter your view on homosexuality, the actions of the students in posting a video taken without knowledge was criminal and morally decayed.

That video is more about teen suicide. And they may not be criminally liable, but even though the fact this kid was obviously upset the fact that what they did finally push him over will destroy them for a while.

OK, was it a video recording blasted over the Internet or a local webcam? The facts seem to be getting destroyed by the growing hysteria and lynch mob. I'm just glad the kid was white and the "Manson Family" wasn't. Otherwise, we'd have another round of Al Sharpton on Anderson Cooper 360 calling for a congressional inquiry.

Not necessarily. Abuse victims DO feel self-BLAME at times, but self-loathing is far stronger terminology that is synonomous with self-hatred. Verbalizing this is far different than actually feeling and being it. One can say "I hate myself", but behaviors that exhibit these feelings are not always present. It's kinda like saying, "I hate my father" when you are actually just angry at him. Extremeness in terminology is usually misrepresentative. Self-blame? Yeah. Self-loathing? Nah, not very often.

Self loathing is a factor in some homosexuals who are depressed. I didn't say all nor did I say there was a explanation for all but yes self loathing is a problem among some homosexuals who exhibit signs of depression especially in abuse cases.

We've had the government and private sectors violating our privacy for so long, I guess some of us don't see anything wrong with having it violated for someone else's entertainment.

ETA: Maybe if one of them had jumped out of the closet and yelled YOU'VE BEEN PUNK'D, they'd have gotten off with a slap on the wrist.

I blame reality TV. It makes it seem like everyone wants a camera following them around 24/7.

Next, on The Dump Channel: We catch Frank sneaking out back to take a big fat one without a camera in his face -- watch what we do to him with this poison ivy!

Gotcha. "Jaded" it is.

Umm.....
There IS something wrong with it.

But 5 ****ing years in prison for someone streaming a webcam that includes dudes kissing for a few minutes and thats it???

You've gotta be kidding if you agree with that.

It's up to the law. Whatever they are charged with, and if convicted - the courts will decide. Fair play.

Could you maybe fill me in on the rest of the thought you had when you read my post?

That was it. Color me sheltered, - well, you can't really. I've been through hell. BUT I never get used to man's inhumanity to man, or the people on the net who assume he must have been a full bubble off center for him to do what he did.

No, I'm not kidding, and I think it's an appropriate punishment.

So, when actual HARM is done.... you don't care.

But when privacy is violated for like... 4 minutes fo smooching (**** people do in public all the ****ing time)..

HEAVENS NO!!!!!

WTF Is wrong with this world.... Privacy seems to have taken a priority over safety.

I'm confused.

Does any of that apply to me, and if so how so?

Me, quoting you. I was responding to the bolded bit when I said 'jaded'.

Now I understand.

Sorry, my youngest had me up until 3am this morning.

My daughter did that bit at 7 months old. She'll be 30 in April and I still haven't forgotten Tiara's 1-4 a.m. block party of 1981.

Self-loathing is a superfical, surface issue that is a defense mechanism for inhibited anger. People who self-loath, regardless of orientation, regardless of the presenting issue are carrying a lot of anger towards something else.

Sadly, the kids who perpetrated this can only face a maximum of 5 years in prison. I sincerely hope that this weighs heavily on their hearts for the rest of their lives. What they did was absolutely horrible. Time and time again, the ignorant never realize the possible repercussions before they do something like this.

I heard today that the prosecutor wants to treat this as a hate crime, due to evidence surfacing that showed the crime being done because of the victim being gay. If that happens, then those kids are looking at double the prison time. Not sure if that is appropriate, but IMHO, what they did is nearly the same as involuntary manslaughter. Of course, it's not exactly the same, but there should definitely be punishment here.

I feel they should be charged with involuntary manslaughter. :(

I think that's too far. Charge them with an invasion of privacy and leave it at that. They were not responsible for that kid jumping off a bridge. Only he had that power over himself.
