Student kills himself after gay sex footage put online

have to disagree.....what are the kids going to say? of course they're going to say they didn't mean anything by it. it was mean spirited and at 18 they know better.

I don't know...pranks like this happen all the time. I think it's an extreme reaction to run and jump off a bridge because of it. I remember in college having a guy over to my room while the roomie was at his thermodynamics class and he came home early from class to find underwear, pants, shoes, etc strewn across the room and then our heads pop out from under the blankets..."By the way, Andre...I'm gay and uh...you know Chuck, right?"

Yeah, when I came out of my room with Chuck...Andre had the entire hall lined up clapping and cheering and heckling us. "Don't drop the soap, chuck!", "Hey where's your leather pants, homo?", etc, etc.

Clearly I never jumped off a bridge over it, everything was A-ok by the time I got back from walking Chuck to his dorm, and life went on...some of those guys are the best friends ever. I actually missed the dorm when I went on to pledge TKE the next year.

Jumping off a bridge was an extreme reaction to a passing situation.

amazing that I actually agree with you on something.

My first roomate in college was gay. I came home from a party about 2 a.m. one Friday night, opened the door, turned on the light to see him getting ramboned doggie style by this huge black dude. my only reaction was.."holy **** dude...next time put a ****ing sign on the door or something". Of course I told people about it, just as I would've told people if I had walked in on him banging a girl. And he didn't jump off a freakin bridge over it.

I think the feeling though, was that this video would go all over the internet, and EVERYONE would see it in the world. And I think that's something he just couldn't handle.

It's one thing to get caught. It's another thing to know there's a video out there which would keep that day alive forever.

my point is generally you just don't suddenly become suicidal. he was probably suicidal before this incident and it just pushed him over the edge. Without any evidence of intent, it is hard to blame these two students for his death.

If you shoot 4 holes into a boat. which bullet caused the boat to sink...the first or the fourth?

Good point! ^^^

A video of it...I just call that "spicing it up a bit". We all have a couple of embarassing videos (not necessarily sexual, but I don't rule out the possibility there might be for myself at least) and pictures...who hasn't got drunken pictures of embarassing situations floating around.

Jumping off a bridge just seems like there was some other mental defect going on there.

Damn, dude, I had no idea you were gay? Cool? Interesting that I never really see you in any of the "anti" gay threads around here?

dude, have you not seen his avatar? the only way it could be more obvious is if it were a pic of richard simmons  Jallman is cool, I generally disagree with him on almost everything, but he is still an OK guy.

Hehe, damn, I never noticed the avatar before? Now THAT is gay.. :)

They just don't interest me for the most part. I have had all those arguments before and frankly, most gay people I have ever met bring the anti sentiments on themselves.

Yep.
Kids fool around in college, a bunch of students spying on a classmate while he's having sex is not so uncommon.
To put it up on the internet however? Pure evil.

No, we don't "all have a couple of embarrassing videos or drunken pictures floating around." That's a really disingenuous argument to use against this kid, Jall, and you're better than that.

Jumping off a bridge just seems like there was some other mental defect going on there.

1. You'll/We'll never know. Speculation on this point is futile.

2. Your reaction to an only slightly similar situation has absolutely zero bearing on his reaction to the matter at hand. And shame on you for attempting to use your emotional reaction to anything as the gold standard for others.

:(

Geeze? Overreact much? ANY and all input thus far is speculative, including yours, Glinda?

Who cares, if he wasn't gay, or caught being gay, it would have never made the news..

From what I've seen, I just notice a bunch of people that really try to overindulge, maybe as hidden guilt. Who knows.

This boils down to a mean, stupid prank. Unfortunately, stupidity - in and of itself - is not a felony. They're jerks, yes. It was a cruel prank, yes. The outcome was unfortunate, yes.

Do they belong in jail? Absolutely not.

First and foremost, I didn't use any argument "against this kid". If anything, I prosecuted his reaction, not his character. And no, it is not disingenuous...it is a legitimate comparison because it is not at all uncommon for college kids to have embarassing moments caught on tape.

I would venture a guess that if there isn't an embarassing moment caught on film for you, then you really haven't been having a whole lot of fun in your life.

1. You'll/We'll never know. Speculation on this point is futile.

We might never know, but it's a pretty solid guess that there was some mental issue occurring to make someone jump off a bridge. When someone's emotions overwhelm them to the point that they are willing to do irreparable harm to themselves to escape it, then there is some kind of dysfunction happening somewhere.

2. Your reaction to an only slightly similar situation has absolutely zero bearing on his reaction to the matter at hand. And shame on you for attempting to use your emotional reaction to anything as the gold standard for others.

I didn't make it a gold standard. I stated that similar situations happen and people don't jump off bridges because of it. Please don't try to project your fantasies about what I actually said onto me and my posts.

I don't think they should get any jail time, or minimal at most. There was no intent to harm, they were playing a prank that backfired. The dude committed suicide, they maybe should have been more aware of his mental state; perhaps he was good at masking it. Who knows? Not us. They can maybe get "illegal videotaping", but one of the pranksters was the roommate so I don't even know if something like that could stick. Surely you're allowed to record in your own room. But these kids most likely are going to feel horrible for the rest of their lives, it didn't seem like they intended harm.

They broke laws in commission of said prank so therefore yes. They should do time.

Surely you jest. You truly believe that embarrassing moments caught on camera or video is a logical measure of how much fun one has in life?

In any legal case, whether criminal, or a civil case, the plaintiff must prove malice, or negligence which could reasonably lead to a predictable outcome. In this case, both will be ahrd to prove, but, in terms of invasion of privacy, the prosecution must prove that the victim had a reasonable expectation of privacy. My guess is that due to the hype, they'll convict the two kids of something.

filming and distributing the film of this student was illegal.

Dude, I'm an old woman. I was in college 29 years ago.

And despite having plenty of "fun" in college, I've never had to suffer the indignity and shame of having my intimate moments secretly filmed and put on GLOBAL public view. I can only imagine how this must have decimated him, personally. And I've got to say, I'm quite surprised that you don't see it.

Please don't try to project your fantasies about what I actually said onto me and my posts.

The only person projecting absurd fantasies here is, um, you (see your comment above regarding my personal life).

maybe......but you didn't have your acts streamed live on the internet.........and it's clear you have a lot more self esteem than this kid did.

My thoughts are that their actions KILLED this man. Murder.

While it may not be a bloody murder? Its Murder via mental contact!

but legally, they didn't.

That's exactly what I mean...there was some kind of insecurity and self image dysfunction at play here to make him do that.

So after reading more about it, both the post by Hicup and the original story, I am thoroughly convinced that this kid had problems. He wasn't filmed having sex. There was no recording of the incident. He was streamed making out with a guy. Big ****ing deal. Who hasn't been seen in public making out at some point?

There were other issues at play here.
