Student kills himself after gay sex footage put online

61 percent of gay youth reporting that they felt unsafe in school and 30 percent staying home to avoid bullying isn't context?

Not really. A high percentage of OVERALL teenagers report similar findings. My comment would be that the teen years, IN GENERAL, suck--for a high percentage of the population.

Yeah pimples, random erections, braces....

Please, show me some statistics that support your views on this. I'm only hearing antecdotal evidence from you. It shouldn't be hard to find studies that show 30% of all teenagers staying home to avoid bullying or 61% of all teenagers feeling unsafe in school.

I loved my teenage years..... Then again, The Awesomeness never sucks. :pimpdaddy:

why are you so damned determined to bestow some kind of "special victim" label to gay teens? :2bigcry:

Because they are dying by their own hands at far higher numbers than their heterosexual counterparts.

Frankly, you probably shouldn't be assuming anything about how this kid felt or what his thoughts were. I'm also not surprised by the lack of tact and sympathy in your post.
I have zero sympathy for anyone that takes their own life. Suicide is the most selfish and weak minded reaction there is.

and whose fault is that? you don't see fat kids offing themselves in droves. "wah, wah, wah....someone called me a faggot. I think I'll go hang myself"

Interesting. We are talking about children ending their own lives and this is the capacity for empathy that you demonstrate. Truly, this must be the depth of Christian compassion that I hear social conservatives spouting about all the time.

Yes, LGBT teens are 2-3 times more likely to commit suicide. That is the result of lacking the support structures available to other groups. Weight and pimples are universal problems among teens and are handled openly but homosexuality is considered a taboo topic that most schools won't touch. With nowhere to turn, gay teens may often feel out of options, especially if their own families turn on them.

Adolescent Sexual Orientation and Suicide Risk: Evidence From a National Study -- Russell and Joyner 91 (8): 1276 -- American Journal of Public Health

Oscar, with that I am done speaking with you on this topic. I can't say that anyone who demonstrates so little value for human life is worth debating.

irrelevent partisan crappola

bullcrap. "most schools" these days are teaching gay acceptance in sex ed classes. this is a bull**** arguement.

fine by me, your lack of judgement is mind boggling anyway. How you arrived at your delusion that I have little value for human life is an enigma. I value all human life equally.

I'm sorry if it twists your panties that I don't place "SPECIAL" value on the lives of gay teens.

Given that you're making the claim, it's really your obligation to prove that gay/lesbian students experience worse bullying than their peers. However, since I'm good at research:

62% of Students Report Being Bullied - News - Campus Safety Magazine

http://news.healingwell.com/index.php?p=news1&id=603691

FRIDAY, April 13 (HealthDay News) -- Nine out of 10 elementary school kids have been subjected to physical or psychological bullying by their peers, while six in 10 have been bullies themselves, according to a new study.

"The results show that even going down to young ages, we have very high levels of bullying and victimization," said study lead author Dr. Thomas P. Tarshis, who conducted the research while with the division of child and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford University Medical Center.

Self report data on bullying has many discrepancies, however, and percents of students reporting that they've been bullied range from 25% up to over 90%.

Bull****. You were the one making the claim.

Who posted the original data? i simply stated that the data on gays/lesbians being bullied lacked context, and that the majority of teenagers are bullied in some form or another.

Seriously? Has bullying become that rampant a problem in our schools? That is sad. I would never have suspected it was to that extent.

Become? I'd suggest that bullying has ALWAYS been an issue in schools. It's going to be an issue in any social structure comprised primarily of adolescents, in particular. It's not like it's new.

It's just the flavor of the month right now for handwringing. It probably sounds callous for me to say that, but we have such short attention spans. In the 90s, it was gangs, and then Columbine. In the early 00s, it was online predators. Now, it's bullying of gays/lesbians.

There always has to be hoopla about some social problem that is more serious now than at any time in the past, even though this hysteria is rarely based upon accurate evidence.

That would be the claim I asked you to verify. I provided stats to back up my claim.

I went to a high school where bullying was not tolerated. It is very difficult for me to imagine 3 out of 5 kids being bullied and nobody caring.

And, as stated, your statistics lacked context.

I went to a high school where bullying was not tolerated. It is very difficult for me to imagine 3 out of 5 kids being bullied and nobody caring.

I'm guessing you went to a private school where bullies could be ejected. Bullying is the norm for most teenagers in America.

can you not read? or can you just not be bothered to read the links provided?

or maybe you were just in the 2 out of 5 group so you didn't notice.

Why the **** are you talking to me?

Yeah. I don't think you have evidence to support your position here. We simply don't know how many kids kill themselves because they're fat.

I would be willing to bet that fewer kids kill themselves because they are fat than kill themselves because they are gay. point being, gay kids are not special and don't need/deserve "special" treatment. you can't stop kids from being kids and harassing those who are "different", for whatever reason.
