I am not afraid of guys who think they are girls or vice versa. However, this is kind of like saying a person can basically misrepresent information about them. Maybe in my mind I'm not really white, but black so I should be eligible for affirmative action policies. Would you support me in my cause to fight discrimination against my racial identity?

Well I am not a conservative so I assume you are talking to someone else, but I am not chastising anyone for having a mental disorder. I am chastising the people who think the way you deal with it is by encouraging them to believe the delusions that come from said mental disorder are in fact the reality.

Telling the guy who thinks the CIA is secretly broadcasting messages to his brain that it is probably true and he should do what they say because they're the CIA and you should respect authority is a bad idea because then when "Langley" tells him that he should kill his ex-girlfriend then himself he's gonna think: "Golly gee I was told to listen to them because they are the real CIA, so I guess I should do it."

Well you missed the point all together. Yes they look happy but their plight based on their circumstances is sad.

This accompanied the picture: Three young women dressed as men aboard an inland rivers houseboat. From an undated and un-postmarked photo post card from the early 1900s.

This was a very poor time for many people and I can only imagine how hard it must have been to be a cross dressing woman at time in our history.

I was having fun with this topic up to know and I find it really unfortunate that so many people get all upset over what is really no big deal.

I will say seriously that the young lady should be treated as what she was born as until she is legally declared to be other wise.

that just leads to the stupidity of the entire situation when the teacher's participate. He/she is already allowed to wear the male band uniform and has been given permission to wear the male graduation gown. Why is the student allowed to identify themself as male in some situations at school and not at others?

Excellent point. The school is just as guilty encouraging this nonsense.

Given that the school didn't put their foot down on any of the other issues, I don't see why they should be able to here. The student body voted for Oak. What would it really hurt to let the vote stand? It's not as though the school is saying that a female MUST be crowned over a male who had more votes. Kids are very perceptive of social issues, why not let this run its course?

Because its factually inaccurate. I agree the school did not help but that doesn't change the reality that she is not a boy. She is a girl, period. To perpetuate a lie based on how someone feels and ignore basic definitions of common words is destructive and stupid.

Why can a girl who plans to become a transexual be allowed to be homecoming king? I don't think she should ever be recognized as a male, as she will never be one.

I know in never never land or some other make believe world you like to pretend to be in you can pretend to be another gender and you are another gender. But in the real world if you are born a man then you will always be a man and if you are born a woman then you will always be a woman. All the surgery and hormones pills will not change that fact.

Why the hell is this an issue? These are kids who decided for themselves that they wanted a transgender individual to represent them as their homecoming king. What grounds does the school have to enforce gender roles on its students? Why must the school be "consistent with gender'?

Also, do you really think the qualifications to be a heart surgeon are the same to be a homecoming king for a high school? Or do you really think this transgender's lack of a Y chromosome inhibits their ability to be a homecoming king in the same that your lack of education in medicine inhibits your ability to perform surgery? Hyperbole anyone?

Keep in mind that in the Medical community this is not normal behavior or they would not talk about it in terms of it being a disorder.

There are two components of Gender Identity Disorder, both of which must be present to make the diagnosis. There must be evidence of a strong and persistent gross-gender identification, which is the desire to be, or the insistence that one is of the other sex. This cross-gender identification must not merely be a desire for any perceived cultural advantages of being the other sex. there must also be evidence of persistent discomfort about one’s assigned sex or a sense of inappropriateness in the gender role of that sex. The diagnosis is not made if the individual has a concurrent physical intersex condition (e.g., androgen insensitivity syndrome or congenital adrenal hyperplasia). To make the diagnosis, there must be evidence of clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

I'm not saying it's bad just that we need to know what we are talking about and not just shoot from the hip all the time.

If you convince the experts you are in true need of this, it's up to you but not until you are an adult. It is far too important to leave to a child to decide and even for a parent to condone. People are not who they will become when they are still children you grown into to who you are with time and life experiences.

It is an undesirable side-effect of the oppressive gender culture you claim to oppose and yet you think we should embrace and encourage this cultural division of the sexes.

Men have a membrane that separates the halves of the brain that females do not have. I wrote a paper for a college psych class that relates the differences between the brains of the sexes. You don't want to read what I wrote for a source, so I direct you to:

So we have a young man trapped in a young woman's body. I'm sure you've heard that somewhere before, or possibly the reverse scenario. I think the rub here is that the men on this board and the male school authoritarians somehow believe that allowing this person into the male world, sans penis, is somehow a threat to their own masculinity. Sad really.

Hermaphrodites are living proof that sex isn't always in the pants.

sorry folks, if the OFFICIAL record has you listed as female, it doesn't matter how you feel you can't be King. Now i don't have an issue with transgender/gender-confused/whatever the **** you want to call them people. Just don't piss down my neck and tell me it's raining.

If medically, biologically you are female then you are not a man. Just because your brain seems to think you are male doesn't change your physical characterisitcs.

If I walk around going "quack, quack, quack" it doesn't make me a duck.

like that story a couple years ago about the "man" that had a baby. media made a big freaking deal over it like it was some kind of medical miracle "PREGNANT MAN!!!!!"

turns out it was a chick who had had her breasts removed and started calling herself a man. If you have ovaries and a uterus...you are not a man.

I heard on the radio, Here in Texas there was a case were a girl had gotten a sex change to male then got married to a male and it was valid because of the "official" record. Gay marriage is illegal in this state.

This is about common sense and logic. Why are you so willing to throw common sense out the window based on this girl's feelings about herself?

If some kid ran around claiming to be superman would you just accept it because they feel they are?
