Declining manufacturing in U.S. linked to Natiional Security

People need to get it through their heads that fewer jobs =/= less manufacturing. By that measure, if we replace 50 men digging with tiny cups with a 1 man running a backhoe, less material is being excavated.

The real threat to national security is that we can't produce any military hardware without gold-plating it to beyond absurd costs. If we got into another cold war style arms race, I worry that this time we might be the ones who bankrupt ourselves by overspending. The military industrial complex has become some unholy combination of congressional pork and corporate profiteering.
