LOL, somehow I don't think this was an issue for Hannibal, Patton, or the Spartans.
I know there's plenty of "awareness" here, as message boards are like narcotics for the liberal and gay community. But I know that it isn't the prevalent topic in the barracks of Fort Anywhere right now. Islamic extremists planting themselves within the ranks, and their inability to do anything about it.....now that's another story.
I think you would be highly surprised to find out then that Islamic extremists are not the only thing, or probably even the most often talked about thing that military members discuss. In fact, there are even some in the military who sympathize with Islamic terrorists, but they still do their jobs. And most have plenty of other things to talk about, including gay rights, in and out of the military. Some are for, others against, and either side can be vocal. This goes for active and reservists. My husband told me about a conversation about gays in the military he had with someone yesterday. I had one two weeks ago at my DWE. Most people try to avoid talking about politics in the military because they are concerned that they may offend someone on either side no matter which side of an issue they are on. I have, in the past, had many conversations with my fellow sailors about gays in the military. Many of the people I worked with on active duty had no problem with gays serving openly, especially if it meant more people to stand watches and make our lives easier.
